Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּהוּbecame kingמָלַךְwhen he was twenty-fiveעֶשְׂרִים וְחָמֵשׁyears old,בֶּן שָׁנָהandוְhe reignedמָלַךְtwenty-nineעֶשְׂרִים וָתֵשַׁעyearsשָׁנָהin Jerusalem.בִּירוּשָׁלִָםThe nameוְשֵׁםof his motherאִמּוֹwas Abijahאֲבִיָּהdaughterבַּתof Zechariah.זְכַרְיָהוּ
He didוַיַּעַשׂwhat was rightהַיָּשָׁרin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרDavidדָּוִידhis fatherאָבִיוhad done.עָשָׂה
He,הוּאin the firstבַ הָרִאשׁוֹנָהyearשָּׁנָהof his reign,לְמָלְכוֹin the firstבַּ הָרִאשׁוֹןmonth,חֹדֶשׁopenedפָּתַחthe doorsאֶת דַּלְתוֹתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהand repaired them.וַיְחַזְּקֵם
He brought inוַיָּבֵאthe priestsאֶת הַכֹּהֲנִיםand the Levitesוְאֶת הַלְוִיִּםand gathered themוַיַּאַסְפֵםinto the squareלִרְחוֹבof the east,הַמִּזְרָח
and saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,לָהֶם“Listen to me,שְׁמָעוּנִיLevites!הַלְוִיִּםNowעַתָּהsanctify yourselves,הִתְקַדְּשׁוּand sanctifyוְקַדְּשׁוּthe houseאֶת בֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof your fathers,אֲבֹתֵיכֶםand carry outוְהוֹצִיאוּthe impurityאֶת הַנִּדָּהfromמִןthe Holy Place.הַקֹּדֶשׁ
Forכִּיour fathersאֲבֹתֵינוּhave been unfaithfulמָעֲלוּand have doneוְעָשׂוּwhat is evilהָרַעin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWHיְהוָהour Elohim;אֱלֹהֵינוּthey abandoned him,וַיַּעַזְבֻהוּand turnedוַיַּסֵּבּוּtheir facesפְנֵיהֶםaway fromמִthe dwellingמִּשְׁכַּןof YHWH,יְהוָהand turned their backs.וַיִּתְּנוּ עֹרֶף
They alsoגַּםshutסָגְרוּthe doorsדַּלְתוֹתof the porticoהָאוּלָםand put outוַיְכַבּוּthe lamps,אֶת הַנֵּרוֹתand incenseוּקְטֹרֶתthey did notלֹאburn,הִקְטִירוּand burnt offeringוְעֹלָהthey did notלֹאofferהֶעֱלוּin the Holy Placeבַקֹּדֶשׁto the Elohimלֵאלֹהֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
So the wrathוַ קֶצֶףof YHWHיְהוָהwasיְהִיupon Judahעַל יְהוּדָהand Jerusalem,וִירוּשָׁלִָםand he gave them overוַיִּתְּנֵםto terror,לְזַעֲוָהto horror,לְשַׁמָּהand to hissing,וְלִשְׁרֵקָהasכַּאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםseeרֹאִיםwith your eyes.בְּעֵינֵיכֶם
And look,וְהִנֵּהour fathersאֲבוֹתֵינוּhave fallenנָפְלוּby the sword,בֶּחָרֶבand our sonsוּבָנֵינוּand our daughtersוּבְנוֹתֵינוּand our wivesוְנָשֵׁינוּare in captivityבַּשְּׁבִיfor this.עַל זֹאת
Nowעַתָּהit is inעִםmy heartלְבָבִיto makeלִכְרוֹתa covenantבְּרִיתwith YHWH,לַיהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלso thatוְhis burningחֲרוֹןangerאַפּוֹmay turn awayיָשֹׁבfrom us.מִמֶּנּוּ
My sons,בָּנַיnowעַתָּהdo notאַלbe negligent,תִּשָּׁלוּforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהhas chosenבָּחַרyouבָכֶםto standלַעֲמֹדbefore him,לְפָנָיוto minister to him,לְשָׁרְתוֹand to beוְלִהְיוֹתhis ministersלוֹ מְשָׁרְתִיםand those who burn incense.”וּמַקְטִרִים
Then the Levitesהַלְוִיִּםarose:וַיָּקֻמוּMahathמַחַתsonבֶּןof Amasaiעֲמָשַׂיand Joelוְיוֹאֵלsonבֶּןof Azariah,עֲזַרְיָהוּof the sonsמִן בְּנֵיof the Kohathites;הַקְּהָתִיand of the sonsוּמִן בְּנֵיof Merari,מְרָרִיKishקִישׁsonבֶּןof Abdiעַבְדִּיand Azariahוַעֲזַרְיָהוּsonבֶּןof Jehallelel;יְהַלֶּלְאֵלand of the Gershonites,וּמִן הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּיJoahיוֹאָחsonבֶּןof Zimmahזִמָּהand Edenוְעֵדֶןsonבֶּןof Joah;יוֹאָח
and of the sonsוּמִן בְּנֵיof Elizaphan,אֱלִיצָפָןShimriשִׁמְרִיand Jeiel;וִיעִיאֵלand of the sonsוּמִן בְּנֵיof Asaph,אָסָףZechariahזְכַרְיָהוּand Mattaniah;וּמַתַּנְיָהוּ
and of the sonsוּמִן בְּנֵיof Heman,הֵימָןJehielיְחִיאֵלand Shimei;וְשִׁמְעִיand of the sonsוּמִן בְּנֵיof Jeduthun,יְדוּתוּןShemaiahשְׁמַעְיָהand Uzziel.וְעֻזִּיאֵל
They gatheredוַיַּאַסְפוּtheir brothersאֶת אֲחֵיהֶםand sanctified themselvesוַיִּתְקַדְּשׁוּand went in,וַיָּבֹאוּaccording to the commandmentכְמִצְוַתof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְby the wordsבְּדִבְרֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהto cleanseלְטַהֵרthe houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
The priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםwentוַיָּבֹאוּinto the inner partלִפְנִימָהof the houseבֵיתof YHWHיְהוָהto cleanse it,לְטַהֵרand they brought outוַיּוֹצִיאוּallאֵת כָּלthe uncleannessהַטֻּמְאָהthatאֲשֶׁרthey foundמָצְאוּin the templeבְּהֵיכַלof YHWHיְהוָהto the courtלַחֲצַרof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH;יְהוָהand the Levitesוַ הַלְוִיִּםreceived itיְקַבְּלוּto carry it outלְהוֹצִיאto the brookלְנַחַלKidron,קִדְרוֹןoutside.חוּצָה
They beganוַיָּחֵלּוּon the first dayבְּאֶחָדof the firstלַ הָרִאשׁוֹןmonthחֹדֶשׁto sanctify,לְקַדֵּשׁand on the eighthוּבְ שְׁמוֹנָהdayיוֹםof the monthלַחֹדֶשׁthey cameבָּאוּto the porticoלְאוּלָםof YHWH;יְהוָהand they sanctifiedוַיְקַדְּשׁוּthe houseאֶת בֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהin eightלְ שְׁמוֹנָהdays,יָמִיםand on the sixteenthוּבְ שִׁשָּׁה עָשָׂרdayיוֹםof the firstלַ הָרִאשׁוֹןmonthחֹדֶשׁthey finished.כִּלּוּ
Then they wentוַיָּבוֹאוּinsideפְנִימָהtoאֶלHezekiahחִזְקִיָּהוּthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְand said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“We have cleansedטִהַרְנוּallאֶת כָּלthe houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהthe altarאֶת מִזְבַּחof burnt offeringהָעוֹלָהand allוְאֶת כָּלits utensils,כֵּלָיוand the tableוְאֶת שֻׁלְחַןof the rowהַמַּעֲרֶכֶתand allוְאֶת כָּלits utensils.כֵּלָיו
And allוְאֵת כָּלthe utensilsהַכֵּלִיםthatאֲשֶׁרKingהַמֶּלֶךְAhazאָחָזrejectedהִזְנִיחַduring his reignבְּמַלְכוּתוֹin his unfaithfulness,בְּמַעֲלוֹwe have preparedהֵכַנּוּand sanctified;וְהִקְדָּשְׁנוּand there they areוְהִנָּםbeforeלִפְנֵיthe altarמִזְבַּחof YHWH.”יְהוָה
Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּהוּthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְrose earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּםand gatheredוַיֶּאֱסֹףthe officialsאֵת שָׂרֵיof the cityהָעִירand went upוַיַּעַלto the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
They broughtוַיָּבִיאוּsevenשִׁבְעָהbulls,פָרִיםsevenשִׁבְעָהrams,וְאֵילִיםsevenשִׁבְעָהlambs,וּכְבָשִׂיםand sevenשִׁבְעָהmale goatsוּצְפִירֵי עִזִּיםfor a sin offeringלְחַטָּאתforעַלthe kingdomהַמַּמְלָכָהand forוְעַלthe sanctuaryהַמִּקְדָּשׁand forוְעַלJudah;יְהוּדָהand he toldוַיֹּאמֶרthe sonsלִבְנֵיof Aaron,אַהֲרֹןthe priests,הַכֹּהֲנִיםto offer themלְהַעֲלוֹתon the altarעַל מִזְבַּחof YHWH.יְהוָה
They slaughteredוַיִּשְׁחֲטוּthe cattle,הַבָּקָרand the priestsוַ הַכֹּהֲנִיםreceivedיְקַבְּלוּthe bloodאֶת הַדָּםand splashed itוַיִּזְרְקוּon the altar;הַמִּזְבֵּחָהand they slaughteredוַיִּשְׁחֲטוּthe ramsהָאֵלִיםand splashedוַיִּזְרְקוּthe bloodהַדָּםon the altar;הַמִּזְבֵּחָהand they slaughteredוַיִּשְׁחֲטוּthe lambsהַכְּבָשִׂיםand splashedוַיִּזְרְקוּthe bloodהַדָּםon the altar.הַמִּזְבֵּחָה
Then they brought nearוַיַּגִּישׁוּthe male goatsאֶת שְׂעִירֵיof the sin offeringהַחַטָּאתbeforeלִפְנֵיthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְand the assembly,וְהַקָּהָלand they laidוַיִּסְמְכוּtheir handsיְדֵיהֶםon them.עֲלֵיהֶם
The priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםslaughtered themוַיִּשְׁחָטוּםand made a sin offeringוַיְחַטְּאוּwith their bloodאֶת דָּמָםon the altar,הַמִּזְבֵּחָהto make expiationלְכַפֵּרforעַלallכָּלIsrael;יִשְׂרָאֵלforכִּיfor allלְכָלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְhad orderedאָמַרthe burnt offeringהָעוֹלָהand the sin offering.וְהַחַטָּאת
He setוַיַּעֲמֵדthe Levitesאֶת הַלְוִיִּםin the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהwith cymbals,בִּמְצִלְתַּיִםwith harps,בִּנְבָלִיםand with lyres,וּבְכִנֹּרוֹתaccording to the commandmentבְּמִצְוַתof Davidדָּוִידand of Gadוְגָדthe seerחֹזֵהof the kingהַמֶּלֶךְand of Nathanוְנָתָןthe prophet;הַנָּבִיאforכִּיthe commandmentהַמִּצְוָהwas by the handבְיַדof YHWHיְהוָהthroughבְּיַדhis prophets.נְבִיאָיו
The Levitesהַלְוִיִּםstoodוַיַּעַמְדוּwith the instrumentsבִּכְלֵיof David,דָוִידand the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםwith the trumpets.בַּחֲצֹצְרוֹת
Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּהוּorderedוַיֹּאמֶרto offerלְהַעֲלוֹתthe burnt offeringהָעֹלָהon the altar;לְהַמִּזְבֵּחַand at the timeוּבְעֵתthat the burnt offeringהָעוֹלָהbegan,הֵחֵלthe songשִׁירof YHWHיְהוָהbegan,הֵחֵלand the trumpets,וְהַחֲצֹצְרוֹתunder the directionוְעַל יְדֵיof the instrumentsכְּלֵיof Davidדָּוִידkingמֶלֶךְof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
Allוְכָלthe assemblyהַקָּהָלwas bowing down,מִשְׁתַּחֲוִיםand the songוְהַשִּׁירwas sounding,מְשׁוֹרֵרand the trumpetsוְהַחֲצֹצְרוֹתwere blowing;מַחְצְרִיםall thisהַכֹּלuntilעַדthe burnt offeringהָעֹלָהwas finished.לִכְלוֹת
When they had finishedוּכְכַלּוֹתoffering,לְהַעֲלוֹתthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְand allוְכָלwho were presentהַנִּמְצְאִיםwith himאִתּוֹkneltכָּרְעוּand bowed down.וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ
Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּהוּthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְand the officialsוְהַשָּׂרִיםorderedוַיֹּאמֶרthe Levitesלַלְוִיִּםto praiseלְהַלֵּלYHWHלַיהוָהwith the wordsבְּדִבְרֵיof Davidדָוִידand of Asaphוְאָסָףthe seer;הַחֹזֶהand they praisedוַיְהַלְלוּwith great joy,עַד לְשִׂמְחָהand they bowedוַיִּקְּדוּand bowed down.וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ
Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּהוּansweredוַיַּעַןand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Nowעַתָּהyou have ordained yourselvesמִלֵּאתֶם יֶדְכֶםto YHWH;לַיהוָהcome nearגֹּשׁוּand bringוְהָבִיאוּsacrificesזְבָחִיםand thanksgivingsוְתוֹדוֹתto the houseלְבֵיתof YHWH.”יְהוָהAnd the assemblyוַ הַקָּהָלbroughtיָּבִיאוּsacrificesזְבָחִיםand thanksgivings,וְתוֹדוֹתand allוְכָלwho were of a generousנְדִיבheart,לֵבburnt offerings.עֹלוֹת
The numberמִסְפַּרof the burnt offeringsהָעֹלָהthatאֲשֶׁרthe assemblyהַקָּהָלbroughtהֵבִיאוּwasוַיְהִיseventyשִׁבְעִיםcattle,בָּקָרa hundredמֵאָהrams,אֵילִיםand two hundredמָאתָיִםlambs;כְּבָשִׂיםallכָּלtheseאֵלֶּהwere for a burnt offeringלְעֹלָהto YHWH.לַיהוָה
And the holy thingsוְהַקֳּדָשִׁיםwere sixשֵׁשׁhundredמֵאוֹתcattleבָּקָרand threeוְ שְׁלֹשֶׁתthousandאֲלָפִיםsheep.צֹאן
Butרַקthe priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםwereהָיוּtoo fewלִמְעָטand could notוְלֹא יָכְלוּskinלְהַפְשִׁיטallאֶת כָּלthe burnt offerings;הָעֹלוֹתso their brothersוַ אֲחֵיהֶםthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםhelped themיְּחַזְּקוּםuntilעַדthe workהַמְּלָאכָהwas finishedכְּלוֹתand untilוְעַדthe priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםhad sanctified themselves,יִתְקַדְּשׁוּforכִּיthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםwere more uprightיִשְׁרֵיin heartלֵבָבto sanctify themselvesלְהִתְקַדֵּשׁthanמֵthe priests.הַכֹּהֲנִים
And alsoוְגַםburnt offeringsעֹלָהwere in abundance,לָרֹבwith the fatבְּחֶלְבֵיof the peace offeringsהַשְּׁלָמִיםand with the libationsוּבַנְּסָכִיםfor the burnt offering.לָעֹלָהSo the serviceוַ עֲבוֹדַתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהwas established.תִּכּוֹן
Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּהוּand allוְכָלthe peopleהָעָםrejoicedוַיִּשְׂמַחover whatעַל הַElohimהָאֱלֹהִיםhad preparedהֵכִיןfor the people,לָעָםforכִּיthe thingהַדָּבָרhad happenedהָיָהsuddenly.בְּפִתְאֹם
