YHWHיְהֹוָהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁהsaying,לֵּאמֹר
“Speakדַּבֵּרto the sonsאֶל בְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלthat they turn backוְיָשֻׁבוּand campוְיַחֲנוּbeforeלִפְנֵיPi-hahiroth,פִּי הַחִירֹתbetweenבֵּיןMigdolמִגְדֹּלandוּבֵיןthe sea,הַיָּםbeforeלִפְנֵיBaal-zephon;בַּעַל צְפֹןopposite itנִכְחוֹyou shall camp,תַחֲנוּbyעַלthe sea.הַיָּם
Pharaohפַּרְעֹהwill sayוְאָמַרof the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל‘Theyהֵםare wandering aimlesslyנְבֻכִיםin the land;בָּאָרֶץthe wildernessהַמִּדְבָּרhas closed inסָגַרon them.’עֲלֵיהֶם
I will makeוְחִזַּקְתִּיPharaoh’sפַּרְעֹהheartאֶת לֵבobstinate,חִזַּקְתִּיand he will pursueוְרָדַףthem,אַחֲרֵיהֶםand I will gain gloryוְאִכָּבְדָהover Pharaohבְּפַרְעֹהand over allוּבְכָלhis army;חֵילוֹand the Egyptiansמִצְרַיִםwill knowוְיָדְעוּthatכִּיIאֲנִיam YHWH.”יְהוָהAnd they didוַיַּעֲשׂוּso.כֵן
When it was toldוַיֻּגַּדto the kingלְמֶלֶךְof Egyptמִצְרַיִםthatכִּיthe peopleהָעָםhad fled,בָרַחthe heartלְבַבof Pharaohפַּרְעֹהand of his servantsוַעֲבָדָיוwas changedוַיֵּהָפֵךְtowardאֶלthe people,הָעָםand they said,וַיֹּאמרוּ“Whatמַהis thisזֹּאתwe have done,עָשִׂינוּthatכִּיwe have letשִׁלַּחְנוּIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלgoשִׁלַּחְנוּfrom serving us?”מֵעָבְדֵנוּ
So he harnessedוַיֶּאְסֹרhis chariotאֶת רִכְבּוֹand tookלָקַחhis peopleוְאֶת עַמּוֹwith him.עִמּוֹ
He tookוַיִּקַּחsixשֵׁשׁhundredמֵאוֹתchosenבָּחוּרchariotsרֶכֶבand allוְכֹלthe chariotsרֶכֶבof Egypt,מִצְרָיִםwithוְcaptainsשָׁלִשִׁםoverעַלall of them.כֻּלּוֹ
YHWHיְהֹוָהmadeוַיְחַזֵּקthe heartאֶת לֵבof Pharaohפַּרְעֹהkingמֶלֶךְof Egyptמִצְרַיִםobstinate,יְחַזֵּקand he pursuedוַיִּרְדֹּףthe sonsאַחֲרֵי בְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלwhile the sonsוּבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwere going outיֹצְאִיםwith handבְּיָדraised.רָמָה
The Egyptiansמִצְרַיִםpursuedוַיִּרְדְּפוּthemאַחֲרֵיהֶםand overtookוַיַּשִּׂיגוּthemאוֹתָםcampingחֹנִיםbyעַלthe sea,הַיָּםallכָּלthe horsesסוּסand chariotsרֶכֶבof Pharaoh,פַּרְעֹהhis horsemenוּפָרָשָׁיוand his army,וְחֵילוֹnearעַלPi-hahiroth,פִּי הַחִירֹתbeforeלִפְנֵיBaal-zephon.בַּעַל צְפֹן
As Pharaohוּפַרְעֹהdrew near,הִקְרִיבthe sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלlifted upיִּשְׂאוּtheir eyes,אֶת עֵינֵיהֶםand look,וְהִנֵּהthe Egyptiansמִצְרַיִםwere marchingנֹסֵעַafter them;אַחֲרֵיהֶםand they were veryוַ מְאֹדafraid,יִּירְאוּand the sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלcried outיִּצְעֲקוּto YHWH.אֶל יְהוָה
They saidוַיֹּאמְרוּto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Is it becauseהַמִבְּלִיthere are noאֵיןgravesקְבָרִיםin Egyptבְּמִצְרַיִםthat you have taken usלְקַחְתָּנוּto dieלָמוּתin the wilderness?בַּמִּדְבָּרWhatמַהis thisזֹּאתyou have doneעָשִׂיתָto us,לָּנוּbringing us outלְהוֹצִיאָנוּof Egypt?מִמִּצְרָיִם
Is notהֲלֹאthisזֶהthe wordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרwe spokeדִּבַּרְנוּto youאֵלֶיךָin Egypt,בְמִצְרַיִםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Leave us aloneחֲדַל מִמֶּנּוּand let us serveוְנַעַבְדָהthe Egyptians’?אֶת מִצְרָיִםForכִּיit would have been betterטוֹבfor usלָנוּto serveעֲבֹדthe Egyptiansאֶת מִצְרַיִםthanמִto dieמֻּתֵנוּin the wilderness.”בַּמִּדְבָּר
Mosesמֹשֶׁהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto the people,אֶל הָעָם“Do notאַלbe afraid.תִּירָאוּStand firmהִתְיַצְבוּand seeוּרְאוּthe salvationאֶת יְשׁוּעַתof YHWH,יְהוָהwhichאֲשֶׁרhe will workיַעֲשֶׂהfor youלָכֶםtoday;הַיּוֹםforכִּיthe Egyptiansאֶת מִצְרַיִםwhomאֲשֶׁרyou seeרְאִיתֶםtodayהַיּוֹםyou will neverלֹא עַד עוֹלָםsee themלִרְאֹתָםagain.תֹסִיפוּ עוֹד
YHWHיְהוָהwill fightיִלָּחֵםfor you,לָכֶםand youוְאַתֶּםwill keep silent.”תַּחֲרִישׁוּן
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Whyמַהdo you cry outתִּצְעַקto me?אֵלָיSpeakדַּבֵּרto the sonsאֶל בְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלthat they move on.וְיִסָּעוּ
And you,וְאַתָּהlift upהָרֵםyour staffאֶת מַטְּךָand stretch outוּנְטֵהyour handאֶת יָדְךָoverעַלthe seaהַיָּםand split it,וּבְקָעֵהוּso that the sonsוְ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלmay goיָבֹאוּinto the midstבְּתוֹךְof the seaהַיָּםon dry ground.בַּיַּבָּשָׁה
And I,וַאֲנִיlook,הִנְIנִיam makingמְחַזֵּקthe heartאֶת לֵבof the Egyptiansמִצְרַיִםobstinate,מְחַזֵּקso that they will go inוְיָבֹאוּafter them;אַחֲרֵיהֶםand I will gain gloryוְאִכָּבְדָהover Pharaohבְּפַרְעֹהand over allוּבְכָלhis army,חֵילוֹhis chariots,בְּרִכְבּוֹand his horsemen.וּבְפָרָשָׁיו
And the Egyptiansוְ מִצְרַיִםwill knowיָדְעוּthatכִּיIאֲנִיam YHWH,יְהוָהwhen I gain gloryבְּהִכָּבְדִיover Pharaoh,בְּפַרְעֹהhis chariots,בְּרִכְבּוֹand his horsemen.”וּבְפָרָשָׁיו
Then the angelוַ מַלְאַךְof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםwhoהַwas goingהֹלֵךְbeforeלִפְנֵיthe campמַחֲנֵהof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלmovedיִּסַּעand wentוַיֵּלֶךְbehind them;מֵאַחֲרֵיהֶםand the pillarוַ עַמּוּדof cloudהֶעָנָןmovedיִּסַּעfrom before themמִפְּנֵיהֶםand stoodוַיַּעֲמֹדbehind them,מֵאַחֲרֵיהֶם
and it cameוַיָּבֹאbetweenבֵּיןthe campמַחֲנֵהof the Egyptiansמִצְרַיִםandוּבֵיןthe campמַחֲנֵהof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵלAnd there wasוַיְהִיthe cloudהֶעָנָןand the darkness,וְהַחֹשֶׁךְand it lit upוַיָּאֶרthe night;אֶת הַלָּיְלָהand the oneזֶהdid notוְלֹאcome nearקָרַבthe otherאֶל זֶהallכָּלnight.הַלָּיְלָה
Mosesמֹשֶׁהstretched outוַיֵּטhis handאֶת יָדוֹoverעַלthe sea,הַיָּםand YHWHוַ יְהוָהdrove backיּוֹלֶךְthe seaאֶת הַיָּםby a strongבְּ עַזָּהeastקָדִיםwindרוּחַallכָּלnightהַלַּיְלָהand madeוַיָּשֶׂםthe seaאֶת הַיָּםdry land,לֶחָרָבָהand the watersוַ הַמָּיִםwere split.יִּבָּקְעוּ
The sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwentיָּבֹאוּinto the midstבְּתוֹךְof the seaהַיָּםon dry ground,בַּיַּבָּשָׁהand the watersוְהַמַּיִםwere a wallחֹמָהto themלָהֶםon their rightמִימִינָםand on their left.וּמִשְּׂמֹאלָם
The Egyptiansמִצְרַיִםpursuedוַיִּרְדְּפוּand went inוַיָּבֹאוּafter them,אַחֲרֵיהֶםallכֹּלPharaoh’sפַּרְעֹהhorses,סוּסhis chariots,רִכְבּוֹand his horsemen,וּפָרָשָׁיוinto the midstאֶל תּוֹךְof the sea.הַיָּם
Inוַיְהִי בְּthe morningהַבֹּקֶרwatch,אַשְׁמֹרֶתYHWHיְהוָהlooked downוַיַּשְׁקֵףonאֶלthe campמַחֲנֵהof the Egyptiansמִצְרַיִםfromבְּthe pillarעַמּוּדof fireאֵשׁand cloud,וְעָנָןand threw into confusionוַיָּהָםthe campאֵת מַחֲנֵהof the Egyptians.מִצְרָיִם
He removedוַיָּסַרthe wheelsאֵת אֹפַןof their chariotsמַרְכְּבֹתָיוand made them driveוַיְנַהֲגֵהוּwith difficulty.בִּכְבֵדֻתAnd the Egyptiansוַ מִצְרַיִםsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Let us fleeאָנוּסָהfrom beforeמִפְּנֵיIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהis fightingנִלְחָםfor themלָהֶםagainst Egypt.”בְּמִצְרָיִם
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Stretch outנְטֵהyour handאֶת יָדְךָoverעַלthe sea,הַיָּםso that the watersוְ הַמַּיִםmay come backיָשֻׁבוּover the Egyptians,עַל מִצְרַיִםover their chariots,עַל רִכְבּוֹand over their horsemen.”וְעַל פָּרָשָׁיו
Mosesמֹשֶׁהstretched outוַיֵּטhis handאֶת יָדוֹoverעַלthe sea,הַיָּםand the seaוַ הַיָּםreturnedיָּשָׁבas morning appearedלִפְנוֹת בֹּקֶרto its normal flow;לְאֵיתָנוֹand the Egyptians,וּמִצְרַיִםfleeing,נָסִיםmet it;לִקְרָאתוֹand YHWHוַ יְהוָהshook offיְנַעֵרthe Egyptiansאֶת מִצְרַיִםin the midstבְּתוֹךְof the sea.הַיָּם
The watersוַ הַמַּיִםreturnedיָּשֻׁבוּand coveredוַיְכַסּוּthe chariotsאֶת הָרֶכֶבand the horsemen,וְאֶת הַפָּרָשִׁיםallלְכֹלthe armyחֵילof Pharaohפַּרְעֹהthat had goneהַבָּאִיםafter themאַחֲרֵיהֶםinto the sea;בַּיָּםnotלֹאevenעַדoneאֶחָדof themבָּהֶםremained.נִשְׁאַר
But the sonsוּבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwalkedהָלְכוּon dry groundבַיַּבָּשָׁהin the midstבְּתוֹךְof the sea,הַיָּםand the watersוְהַמַּיִםwere a wallחֹמָהto themלָהֶםon their rightמִימִינָםand on their left.וּמִשְּׂמֹאלָם
So YHWHוַ יְהוָהsavedיּוֹשַׁעIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלthatהַהוּאdayבַּיּוֹםfrom the handמִיַּדof the Egyptians,מִצְרָיִםand Israelוַ יִשְׂרָאֵלsawיַּרְאthe Egyptiansאֶת מִצְרַיִםdeadמֵתonעַלthe shoreשְׂפַתof the sea.הַיָּם
Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלsawוַיַּרְאthe greatהַגְּדֹלָהhandאֶת הַיָּדthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad shownעָשָׂהagainst Egypt;בְּמִצְרַיִםand the peopleוַ הָעָםfearedיִּירְאוּYHWH,אֶת יְהוָהand they believedוַיַּאֲמִינוּin YHWHבַּיהוָהand in Mosesוּבְמֹשֶׁהhis servant.עַבְדּוֹ
