The daughtersבְּנוֹתof Zelophehadצְלָפְחָדsonבֶּןof Hepher,חֵפֶרsonבֶּןof Gilead,גִּלְעָדsonבֶּןof Machir,מָכִירsonבֶּןof Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהof the familiesלְמִשְׁפְּחֹתof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהsonבֶןof Joseph,יוֹסֵףcame near.וַתִּקְרַבְנָהAnd these areוְאֵלֶּהthe namesשְׁמוֹתof his daughters:בְּנֹתָיוMahlah,מַחְלָהNoah,נֹעָהHoglah,וְחָגְלָהMilcah,וּמִלְכָּהand Tirzah.וְתִרְצָה
They stoodוַתַּעֲמֹדְנָהbeforeלִפְנֵיMosesמֹשֶׁהand beforeוְלִפְנֵיEleazarאֶלְעָזָרthe priestהַכֹּהֵןand beforeוְלִפְנֵיthe chiefsהַנְּשִׂיאִםand the wholeוְכָלcommunity,הָעֵדָהat the entranceפֶּתַחof the tentאֹהֶלof meeting,מוֹעֵדsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Our fatherאָבִינוּdiedמֵתin the wilderness,בַּמִּדְבָּרand heוְהוּאwas notלֹא הָיָהamongבְּתוֹךְthe communityהָעֵדָהof those who gathered togetherהַנּוֹעָדִיםagainst YHWHעַל יְהוָהin the communityבַּעֲדַתof Korah,קֹרַחbutכִּיin his own sinבְחֶטְאוֹhe died,מֵתand he hadהָיוּ לוֹnoלֹאsons.וּבָנִים
Whyלָמָּהshould the nameשֵׁםof our fatherאָבִינוּbe taken awayיִגָּרַעfrom amongמִתּוֹךְhis familyמִשְׁפַּחְתּוֹbecauseכִּיhe hasלוֹnoאֵיןson?בֵּןGiveתְּנָהusלָּנוּa possessionאֲחֻזָּהamongבְּתוֹךְthe brothersאֲחֵיof our father.”אָבִינוּ
Mosesמֹשֶׁהbroughtוַיַּקְרֵבtheir caseמִשְׁפָּטָןbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Moses:אֶל מֹשֶׁה
“The daughtersבְּנוֹתof Zelophehadצְלָפְחָדare speakingדֹּבְרֹתrightly.כֵּןYou shall surely giveנָתֹן תִּתֵּןthemלָהֶםa possessionאֲחֻזַּתof inheritanceנַחֲלָהamongבְּתוֹךְthe brothersאֲחֵיof their father,אֲבִיהֶםand you shall transferוְהַעֲבַרְתָּthe inheritanceנַחֲלַתof their fatherאֲבִיהֶןto them.לָהֶן
And to the sonsוְאֶל בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלyou shall speak,תְּדַבֵּרsaying:לֵאמֹרIfכִּיa manאִישׁdiesיָמוּתand hasלוֹnoאֵיןson,וּבֵןyou shall transferוְהַעֲבַרְתֶּםhis inheritanceנַחֲלָתוֹto his daughter.לְבִתּוֹ
And ifוְאִםhe hasלוֹnoאֵיןdaughter,בַּתyou shall giveוּנְתַתֶּםhis inheritanceנַחֲלָתוֹto his brothers.לְאֶחָיו
And ifוְאִםhe hasלוֹnoאֵיןbrothers,אַחִיםyou shall giveוּנְתַתֶּםhis inheritanceנַחֲלָתוֹto the brothersלַאֲחֵיof his father.אָבִיו
And ifוְאִםthere are noאֵיןbrothersאַחִיםof his father,לְאָבִיוyou shall giveוּנְתַתֶּםhis inheritanceנַחֲלָתוֹto his relativeלִשְׁאֵרוֹwho is nearestהַקָּרֹבto himאֵלָיוfrom his family,מִמִּשְׁפַּחְתּוֹand he shall possessוְיָרַשׁit.אֹתָהּAnd it shall beוְהָיְתָהfor the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלa statuteלְחֻקַּתof justice,מִשְׁפָּטasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהcommandedצִוָּהMoses.”מֹשֶׁה
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Go upעֲלֵהto this mountainאֶל הַר הַזֶּהof Abarim,הָעֲבָרִיםand seeוּרְאֵהthe landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI have givenנָתַתִּיto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
When you have seenוְרָאִיתָהit,אֹתָהּyou tooגַּם אָתָּהshall be gatheredוְנֶאֱסַפְתָּto your people,אֶל עַמֶּיךָasכַּאֲשֶׁרAaronאַהֲרֹןyour brotherאָחִיךָwas gathered;נֶאֱסַף
becauseכַּאֲשֶׁרyou rebelled againstמְרִיתֶםmy commandפִּיin the wildernessבְּמִדְבַּרof Zin,צִןin the strifeבִּמְרִיבַתof the community,הָעֵדָהinstead of sanctifying meלְהַקְדִּישֵׁנִיat the watersבַמַּיִםbefore their eyes.”לְעֵינֵיהֶםTheseהֵםare the watersמֵיof Meribahמְרִיבַתof Kadeshקָדֵשׁin the wildernessמִדְבַּרof Zin.צִן
Mosesמֹשֶׁהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto YHWH,אֶל יְהוָהsaying,לֵאמֹר
“May YHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof the spiritsהָרוּחֹתof allלְכָלflesh,בָּשָׂרappointיִפְקֹדa manאִישׁoverעַלthe community,הָעֵדָה
whoאֲשֶׁרwill go outיֵצֵאbefore themלִפְנֵיהֶםand whoוַאֲשֶׁרwill come inיָבֹאbefore them,לִפְנֵיהֶםand whoוַאֲשֶׁרwill lead them outיוֹצִיאֵםand whoוַאֲשֶׁרwill bring them in,יְבִיאֵםso that the communityוְ עֲדַתof YHWHיְהוָהmay notלֹאbeתִהְיֶהlike sheepכַּצֹּאןthatאֲשֶׁרhave noאֵין לָהֶםshepherd.”רֹעֶה
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Takeקַחfor yourselfלְךָJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבִּןof Nun,נוּןa manאִישׁin whomאֲשֶׁר בּוֹthere is the spirit,רוּחַand layוְסָמַכְתָּyour handיָדְךָon him.עָלָיו
SetוְהַעֲמַדְתָּhimאֹתוֹbeforeלִפְנֵיEleazarאֶלְעָזָרthe priestהַכֹּהֵןand beforeוְלִפְנֵיthe wholeכָּלcommunity,הָעֵדָהand give him ordersוְצִוִּיתָה אֹתוֹbefore their eyes.לְעֵינֵיהֶם
Putוְנָתַתָּהsome of your majestyמֵהוֹדְךָon him,עָלָיוso thatלְמַעַןthe wholeכָּלcommunityעֲדַתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלmay listen to him.יִשְׁמְעוּ
And beforeוְלִפְנֵיEleazarאֶלְעָזָרthe priestהַכֹּהֵןhe shall stand,יַעֲמֹדand he shall inquireוְשָׁאַלfor himלוֹby the judgmentבְּמִשְׁפַּטof the UrimהָאוּרִיםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH.יְהוָהAt his commandעַל פִּיוthey shall go out,יֵצְאוּand at his commandוְעַל פִּיוthey shall come in,יָבֹאוּheהוּאand allוְכָלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwith him,אִתּוֹthe wholeוְכָלcommunity.”הָעֵדָה
MosesמֹשֶׁהdidוַיַּעַשׂasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהhim;אֹתוֹhe tookוַיִּקַּחJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַand set himוַיַּעֲמִדֵהוּbeforeלִפְנֵיEleazarאֶלְעָזָרthe priestהַכֹּהֵןand beforeוְלִפְנֵיthe wholeכָּלcommunity.הָעֵדָה
He laidוַיִּסְמֹךְhis handsיָדָיוon himעָלָיוand gave him orders,וַיְצַוֵּהוּasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad spokenדִּבֶּרthroughבְּיַדMoses.מֹשֶׁה
