When Davidוְדָוִידwas oldזָקֵןand satisfiedוְשָׂבַעwith days,יָמִיםhe madeוַSolomonאֶת שְׁלֹמֹהhis sonבְנוֹkingיַּמְלֵךְoverעַלIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
He gatheredוַיֶּאֱסֹףallאֶת כָּלthe officialsשָׂרֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the Levites.וְהַלְוִיִּם
The Levitesהַלְוִיִּםwere countedוַיִּסָּפְרוּfrom thirty years oldמִבֶּן שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָהand upward,וָמָעְלָהand their numberוַיְהִי מִסְפָּרָםhead by head,לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָםman by man,לִגְבָרִיםwas thirty-eightשְׁלֹשִׁים וּשְׁמוֹנָהthousand.אָלֶף
Of these,מֵאֵלֶּהtwenty-fourעֶשְׂרִים וְאַרְבָּעָהthousandאָלֶףwere to directלְנַצֵּחַthe workעַל מְלֶאכֶתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהand sixוְ שֵׁשֶׁתthousandאֲלָפִיםwere supervisorsשֹׁטְרִיםand judges,וְשֹׁפְטִים
and fourוְאַרְבַּעַתthousandאֲלָפִיםgatekeepers,שֹׁעֲרִיםand fourוְאַרְבַּעַתthousandאֲלָפִיםpraisingמְהַלְלִיםYHWHלַיהוָהwith the instrumentsבַּכֵּלִיםthatאֲשֶׁרI madeעָשִׂיתִיfor praising.לְהַלֵּל
Davidדָּוִידdivided themוַיֶּחָלְקֵםinto divisionsמַחְלְקוֹתaccording to the sonsלִבְנֵיof Levi:לֵוִיGershon,לְגֵרְשׁוֹןKohath,קְהָתand Merari.וּמְרָרִי
Of the Gershonites:לַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּיLadanלַעְדָּןand Shimei.וְשִׁמְעִי
The sonsבְּנֵיof Ladan:לַעְדָּןJehielיְחִיאֵלthe head,הָרֹאשׁZetham,וְזֵתָםand Joel,וְיוֹאֵלthree.שְׁלֹשָׁה
The sonsבְּנֵיof Shimei:שִׁמְעִיShelomith,שְׁלוֹמִיתHaziel,וַחֲזִיאֵלand Haran,וְהָרָןthree.שְׁלֹשָׁהTheseאֵלֶּהwere the headsרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesהָאָבוֹתof Ladan.לְלַעְדָּן
And the sonsוּבְנֵיof Shimei:שִׁמְעִיJahath,יַחַתZina,זִינָאJeush,וִיעוּשׁand Beriah.וּבְרִיעָהTheseאֵלֶּהwere the sonsבְנֵיof Shimei,שִׁמְעִיfour.אַרְבָּעָה
Jahathיַחַתwasוַיְהִיthe head,הָרֹאשׁand Zizaוְזִיזָהthe second;הַשֵּׁנִיbut Jeushוִיעוּשׁand Beriahוּבְרִיעָהdid notלֹאhave manyהִרְבּוּsons,בָנִיםso they becameוַיִּהְיוּa father’s houseלְבֵית אָבin a singleאֶחָתcensus.לִפְקֻדָּה
The sonsבְּנֵיof Kohath:קְהָתAmram,עַמְרָםIzhar,יִצְהָרHebron,חֶבְרוֹןand Uzziel,וְעֻזִּיאֵלfour.אַרְבָּעָה
The sonsבְּנֵיof Amram:עַמְרָםAaronאַהֲרֹןand Moses.וּמֹשֶׁהAaronאַהֲרֹןwas set apartוַיִּבָּדֵלto sanctify himלְהַקְדִּישׁוֹas most holy,קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁיםheהוּאand his sonsוּבָנָיוforever,עַד עוֹלָםto offer up in smokeלְהַקְטִירbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH,יְהוָהto minister to him,לְשָׁרְתוֹand to blessוּלְבָרֵךְin his nameבִּשְׁמוֹforever.עַד עוֹלָם
As for Moses,וּמֹשֶׁהthe manאִישׁof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםhis sonsבָּנָיוwere reckonedיִקָּרְאוּwithעַלthe tribeשֵׁבֶטof Levi.הַלֵּוִי

ForכִּיDavidדָּוִידsaid,אָמַר“YHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלhas given restהֵנִיחַto his people,לְעַמּוֹand he dwellsוַיִּשְׁכֹּןin Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִַםforever.עַד לְעוֹלָם
And alsoוְגַםthe Levitesלַלְוִיִּםdo not haveאֵיןto carryלָשֵׂאתthe dwellingאֶת הַמִּשְׁכָּןor anyוְאֶת כָּלof its utensilsכֵּלָיוfor its service.”לַעֲבֹדָתוֹ
Forכִּיby the lastהָאַחֲרֹנִיםwordsבְדִבְרֵיof Davidדָוִידtheseהֵמָּהwere the numberמִסְפַּרof the sonsבְּנֵיof Levi,לֵוִיfrom twenty years oldמִבֶּן עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָהand upward.וּלְמָעְלָה
Forכִּיtheir postמַעֲמָדָםwas at the side ofלְיַדthe sonsבְּנֵיof Aaronאַהֲרֹןfor the serviceלַעֲבֹדַתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH,יְהוָהoverעַלthe courtsהַחֲצֵרוֹתand overוְעַלthe chambers,הַלְּשָׁכוֹתand overוְעַלthe purificationטָהֳרַתof everyלְכָלholy thing,קֹדֶשׁand the workוּמַעֲשֵׂהof the serviceעֲבֹדַתof the houseבֵּיתof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִים
and for the breadוּלְלֶחֶםof the row,הַמַּעֲרֶכֶתand for the fine flourוּלְסֹלֶתfor the grain offering,לְמִנְחָהand for the unleavenedהַמַּצּוֹתwafersוְלִרְקִיקֵיand for what is baked on the griddleוְלַמַּחֲבַתand for what is well mixed,וְלַמֻּרְבָּכֶתand for everyוּלְכָלmeasure of capacityמְשׂוּרָהand of length;וּמִדָּה
and to standוְלַעֲמֹדevery morningבַּבֹּקֶר בַּבֹּקֶרto give thanksלְהֹדוֹתand to praiseוּלְהַלֵּלYHWH,לַיהוָהand likewiseוְכֵןin the evening;לָעָרֶב
and for everyוּלְכֹלoffering upהַעֲלוֹתof burnt offeringsעֹלוֹתto YHWHלַיהוָהon the Sabbaths,לַשַּׁבָּתוֹתat the new moons,לֶחֳדָשִׁיםand at the appointed times,וְלַמֹּעֲדִיםby number,בְּמִסְפָּרaccording to the ruleכְּמִשְׁפָּטconcerning them,עֲלֵיהֶםcontinuallyתָּמִידbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
So they keptוְשָׁמְרוּthe chargeאֶת מִשְׁמֶרֶתof the tentאֹהֶלof meetingמוֹעֵדand the chargeוְאֵת מִשְׁמֶרֶתof the Holy Placeהַקֹּדֶשׁand the chargeוּמִשְׁמֶרֶתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Aaron,אַהֲרֹןtheir brothers,אֲחֵיהֶםfor the serviceלַעֲבֹדַתof the houseבֵּיתof YHWH.יְהוָה
