And the menאַנְשֵׁיof Kiriath-jearimקִרְיַת יְעָרִיםcameוַיָּבֹאוּand brought upוַיַּעֲלוּthe arkאֶת אֲרוֹןof YHWHיְהוָהand broughtוַיָּבִאוּitאֹתוֹtoאֶלthe houseבֵּיתof Abinadabאֲבִינָדָבon the hill;בַּגִּבְעָהand they consecratedקִדְּשׁוּEleazarוְאֶת אֶלְעָזָרhis sonבְּנוֹto keepלִשְׁמֹרthe arkאֶת אֲרוֹןof YHWH.יְהוָה
And it happened,וַיְהִיfrom the dayמִיּוֹםthat the arkהָאָרוֹןstayedשֶׁבֶתin Kiriath-jearim,בְּקִרְיַת יְעָרִיםthat the daysוַ הַיָּמִיםgrew manyיִּרְבּוּand came to beוַיִּהְיוּtwentyעֶשְׂרִיםyears;שָׁנָהand allוַ כָּלthe houseבֵּיתof IsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלlamentedיִּנָּהוּafterאַחֲרֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלspokeוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלallכָּלthe houseבֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלsaying,לֵאמֹר“Ifאִםwith allבְּכָלyour heartלְבַבְכֶםyouאַתֶּםare returningשָׁבִיםtoאֶלYHWH,יְהוָהput awayהָסִירוּ אֶתthe foreignהַנֵּכָרgodsאֱלֹהֵיfrom among you,מִתּוֹכְכֶםand the Astartes,וְהָעַשְׁתָּרוֹתand prepareוְהָכִינוּyour heartלְבַבְכֶםforאֶלYHWHיְהוָהand serve himוְעִבְדֻהוּalone,לְבַדּוֹand he will deliverוְיַצֵּלyouאֶתְכֶםfrom the handמִיַּדof the Philistines.”פְּלִשְׁתִּים
So the sonsוַ בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלput awayיָּסִירוּthe Baalsאֶת הַבְּעָלִיםand the Astartes,וְאֶת הָעַשְׁתָּרֹתand servedוַיַּעַבְדוּYHWHאֶת יְהוָהalone.לְבַדּוֹ
And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלsaid,וַיֹּאמֶר“Gatherקִבְצוּallאֶת כָּלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלat Mizpah,הַמִּצְפָּתָהand I will prayוְאֶתְפַּלֵּלfor youבַּעַדְכֶםtoאֶלYHWH.”יְהוָה
So they gatheredוַיִּקָּבְצוּat Mizpahהַמִּצְפָּתָהand drewוַיִּשְׁאֲבוּwaterמַיִםand poured it outוַיִּשְׁפְּכוּbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH,יְהוָהand they fastedוַיָּצוּמוּon thatהַהוּאdayבַּיּוֹםand saidוַיֹּאמְרוּthere,שָׁם“We have sinnedחָטָאנוּagainst YHWH.”לַיהוָהAnd Samuelוַ שְׁמוּאֵלjudgedיִּשְׁפֹּטthe sonsאֶת בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלat Mizpah.בַּמִּצְפָּה
And the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּיםheardוַיִּשְׁמְעוּthatכִּיthe sonsבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלhad gatheredהִתְקַבְּצוּat Mizpah,הַמִּצְפָּתָהand the lordsוַ סַרְנֵיof the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּיםwent upיַּעֲלוּagainstאֶלIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵלAnd the sonsוַ בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלheard itיִּשְׁמְעוּand were afraidוַיִּרְאוּbecauseמִפְּנֵיof the Philistines.פְלִשְׁתִּים
And the sonsוַ בְנֵיof IsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלsaidיֹּאמְרוּtoאֶלSamuel,שְׁמוּאֵל“Do notאַלkeep silentתַּחֲרֵשׁfrom usמִמֶּנּוּby ceasing to cry outמִזְּעֹקtoאֶלYHWHיְהוָהour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּthat he may save usוְיֹשִׁעֵנוּfrom the handמִיַּדof the Philistines.”פְּלִשְׁתִּים
So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלtookוַיִּקַּחaאֶחָדnursingחָלָבlambטְלֵהand offered it upוַיַּעֲלֵהוּas a burnt offering,עוֹלָהwhole,כָּלִילto YHWH;לַיהוָהand Samuelוַ שְׁמוּאֵלcried outיִּזְעַקtoאֶלYHWHיְהוָהforבְּעַדIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלand YHWHוַ יְהוָהanswered him.יַּעֲנֵהוּ
And it happened,וַיְהִיas Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלwas offering upמַעֲלֶהthe burnt offering,הָעוֹלָהthat the Philistinesוּפְלִשְׁתִּיםdrew nearנִגְּשׁוּfor warלַמִּלְחָמָהagainst Israel;בְּיִשְׂרָאֵלand YHWHוַ יְהוָהthunderedיַּרְעֵםwith a greatבְּ גָּדוֹלvoiceקוֹלon thatהַהוּאdayבַּיּוֹםagainstעַלthe Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּיםand threw them into confusion,וַיְהֻמֵּםand they were struck downוַיִּנָּגְפוּbeforeלִפְנֵיIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
And the menאַנְשֵׁיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwent outוַיֵּצְאוּfromמִןMizpahהַמִּצְפָּהand pursuedוַיִּרְדְּפוּthe Philistinesאֶת פְּלִשְׁתִּיםand struck themוַיַּכּוּםas far asעַדbelowמִתַּחַתBeth-car.לְבֵית כָּר
Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵלtookוַיִּקַּחaאַחַתstoneאֶבֶןand set itוַיָּשֶׂםbetweenבֵּיןMizpahהַמִּצְפָּהandוּבֵיןShen,הַשֵּׁןand calledוַיִּקְרָאits nameאֶת שְׁמָהּEben-ezer,אֶבֶן הָעָזֶרand said,וַיֹּאמַר“UntilעַדnowהֵנָּהYHWHיְהוָהhas helped us.”עֲזָרָנוּ
So the Philistinesהַפְּלִשְׁתִּיםwere subduedוַיִּכָּנְעוּand did notוְלֹאagainיָסְפוּ עוֹדcomeלָבוֹאinto the territoryבִּגְבוּלof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלand the handוַ יַדof YHWHיְהוָהwasתְּהִיagainst the Philistinesבַּפְּלִשְׁתִּיםallכֹּלthe daysיְמֵיof Samuel.שְׁמוּאֵל
And the citiesהֶעָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרthe Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּיםhad takenלָקְחוּfromמֵאֵתIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלreturnedוַתָּשֹׁבְנָהto Israel,לְיִשְׂרָאֵלfrom EkronמֵעֶקְרוֹןtoוְעַדGath;גַּתand Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלdeliveredהִצִּילtheir territoryוְאֶת גְּבוּלָןfrom the handמִיַּדof the Philistines.פְּלִשְׁתִּיםAnd there wasוַיְהִיpeaceשָׁלוֹםbetweenבֵּיןIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלandוּבֵיןthe Amorite.הָאֱמֹרִי
And SamuelשְׁמוּאֵלjudgedוַיִּשְׁפֹּטIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלallכֹּלthe daysיְמֵיof his life.חַיָּיו
He would goוְהָלַךְyearשָׁנָהby yearמִדֵּי בְּשָׁנָהand make the roundוְסָבַבof Bethelבֵּית אֵלand Gilgalוְהַגִּלְגָּלand Mizpah,וְהַמִּצְפָּהand judgeוְשָׁפַטIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלin allאֵת כָּלtheseהָאֵלֶּהplaces.הַמְּקוֹמוֹת
And his returnוּתְשֻׁבָתוֹwas to Ramah,הָרָמָתָהforכִּיthereשָׁםwas his house,בֵּיתוֹand thereוְשָׁםhe judgedשָׁפָטIsrael;אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלand he builtוַיִּבֶןthereשָׁםan altarמִזְבֵּחַto YHWH.לַיהוָה
