Now the manוְהָאָדָםknewיָדַעEveאֶת חַוָּהhis wife,אִשְׁתּוֹand she conceivedוַתַּהַרand gave birthוַתֵּלֶדto Cain,אֶת קַיִןand she said,וַתֹּאמֶר“I have acquiredקָנִיתִיa manאִישׁwithאֶתYHWH.”יְהוָה
And againוַתֹּסֶףshe gave birthלָלֶדֶתto his brotherאֶת אָחִיוAbel.אֶת הָבֶלAndוַAbelהֶבֶלbecameיְהִיa keeperרֹעֵהof flocks,צֹאןand Cainוְקַיִןwasהָיָהa workerעֹבֵדof the ground.אֲדָמָה
And it happenedוַיְהִיat the endמִקֵּץof some daysיָמִיםthatוַCainקַיִןbroughtיָּבֵאfrom the fruitמִפְּרִיof the groundהָאֲדָמָהan offeringמִנְחָהto YHWH.לַיהוָה
And Abelוְהֶבֶלalsoגַםbrought,הֵבִיאhe too,הוּאfrom the firstbornמִבְּכֹרוֹתof his flockצֹאנוֹand from their fat.וּמֵחֶלְבֵהֶןAndוַYHWHיְהוָהregardedיִּשַׁעAbelאֶל הֶבֶלand his offering,וְאֶל מִנְחָתוֹ
butוְCainאֶל קַיִןandוְhis offeringאֶל מִנְחָתוֹhe did notלֹאregard.שָׁעָהAndוַCainלְקַיִןwasיִּחַרveryמְאֹדangry,יִּחַרandוַhis faceפָּנָיוfell.יִּפְּלוּ
AndוַYHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto Cain,אֶל קָיִן“Whyלָמָּהare you angry,חָרָה לָךְand whyוְלָמָּהhas your faceפָנֶיךָfallen?נָפְלוּ
Ifאִםyou do well,תֵּיטִיבwill there not beהֲלוֹאa lifting up?שְׂאֵתAnd ifוְאִםyou do notלֹאdo well,תֵיטִיבsinחַטָּאתis crouchingרֹבֵץat the door;לַפֶּתַחand toward youוְאֵלֶיךָisits desire,תְּשׁוּקָתוֹbut youוְאַתָּהwill ruleתִּמְשָׁלover it.”בּוֹ
AndוַCainקַיִןsaidיֹּאמֶרto Abelאֶל הֶבֶלhis brother …אָחִיוAnd it happened,וַיְהִיwhen they wereבִּהְיוֹתָםin the field,בַּשָּׂדֶהthatוַCainקַיִןrose upיָּקָםagainst Abelאֶל הֶבֶלhis brotherאָחִיוand killed him.וַיַּהַרְגֵהוּ
AndוַYHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto Cain,אֶל קַיִן“WhereאֵיisAbelהֶבֶלyour brother?”אָחִיךָAndוַhe said,יֹּאמֶר“I do notלֹאknow.יָדַעְתִּיAmהֲIאָנֹכִיmy brother’sאָחִיkeeper?”שֹׁמֵר
Andוַhe said,יֹּאמֶר“Whatמֶהhave you done?עָשִׂיתָThe voiceקוֹלof your brother’sאָחִיךָbloodדְּמֵיis crying outצֹעֲקִיםto meאֵלַיfromמִןthe ground.הָאֲדָמָה
And now,וְעַתָּהcursedאָרוּרareyouאָתָּהaway from the ground,מִן הָאֲדָמָהwhichאֲשֶׁרhas openedפָּצְתָהits mouthאֶת פִּיהָto receiveלָקַחַתyour brother’sאָחִיךָbloodאֶת דְּמֵיfrom your hand.מִיָּדֶךָ
Whenכִּיyou workתַעֲבֹדthe ground,אֶת הָאֲדָמָהit will noלֹאlongerתֹסֵףgiveתֵּתits strengthכֹּחָהּto you;לָךְa wandererנָעand a drifterוָנָדyou will beתִּהְיֶהon the earth.”בָאָרֶץ
AndוַCainקַיִןsaidיֹּאמֶרto YHWH,אֶל יְהוָה“My iniquityעֲוֺנִיistoo greatגָּדוֹלto bear.מִנְּשֹׂא
Look,הֵןyou have drivenגֵּרַשְׁתָּmeאֹתִיout todayהַיּוֹםfrom the faceמֵעַל פְּנֵיof the ground,הָאֲדָמָהand from your presenceוּמִפָּנֶיךָI will be hidden;אֶסָּתֵרand I will beוְהָיִיתִיa wandererנָעand a drifterוָנָדon the earth,בָּאָרֶץand it will happenוְהָיָהthatwhoeverכָלfinds meמֹצְאִיwill kill me.”יַהַרְגֵנִי
AndוַYHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto him,לוֹ“ThereforeלָכֵןwhoeverכָּלkillsהֹרֵגCain,קַיִןvengeance will be taken on himיֻקָּםsevenfold.”שִׁבְעָתַיִםAndוַYHWHיְהוָהputיָּשֶׂםa signאוֹתon Cain,לְקַיִןso that noלְבִלְתִּיoneכָּלwho found himמֹצְאוֹwould strikeהַכּוֹתhim.אֹתוֹ
AndוַCainקַיִןwent outיֵּצֵאfrom the presenceמִלִּפְנֵיof YHWHיְהוָהand settledוַיֵּשֶׁבin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Nod,נוֹדeastקִדְמַתof Eden.עֵדֶן
AndוַCainקַיִןknewיֵּדַעhis wife,אֶת אִשְׁתּוֹand she conceivedוַתַּהַרand gave birthוַתֵּלֶדto Enoch.אֶת חֲנוֹךְAnd he wasוַיְהִיbuildingבֹּנֶהa city,עִירand he calledוַיִּקְרָאthe nameשֵׁםof the cityהָעִירafter the nameכְּשֵׁםof his son,בְּנוֹEnoch.חֲנוֹךְ
Andוַto Enochלַחֲנוֹךְwas bornיִּוָּלֵדIrad;אֶת עִירָדand IradוְעִירָדfatheredיָלַדMehujael;אֶת מְחוּיָאֵלand MehujaelוּמְחִיּיָאֵלfatheredיָלַדMethushael;אֶת מְתוּשָׁאֵלand MethushaelוּמְתוּשָׁאֵלfatheredיָלַדLamech.אֶת לָמֶךְ
AndוַLamechלֶמֶךְtookיִּקַּחfor himselfלוֹtwoשְׁתֵּיwives;נָשִׁיםthe nameשֵׁםof the oneהָאַחַתwasAdah,עָדָהand the nameוְשֵׁםof the secondהַשֵּׁנִיתZillah.צִלָּה
AndוַAdahעָדָהgave birthתֵּלֶדto Jabal;אֶת יָבָלheהוּאwasהָיָהthe fatherאֲבִיof those who liveיֹשֵׁבin tentsאֹהֶלand have livestock.וּמִקְנֶה
And the nameוְשֵׁםof his brotherאָחִיוwasJubal;יוּבָלheהוּאwasהָיָהthe fatherאֲבִיof allכָּלwho playתֹּפֵשׂthe lyreכִּנּוֹרand the pipe.וְעוּגָב
And Zillah,וְצִלָּהsheהִואalso,גַםgave birthיָלְדָהto Tubal-cain,אֶת תּוּבַל קַיִןthe forgerלֹטֵשׁof everyכָּלtoolחֹרֵשׁof bronzeנְחֹשֶׁתand iron.וּבַרְזֶלAnd the sisterוַאֲחוֹתof Tubal-cainתּוּבַל קַיִןwasNaamah.נַעֲמָה
AndוַLamechלֶמֶךְsaidיֹּאמֶרto his wives,לְנָשָׁיו“Adahעָדָהand Zillah,וְצִלָּהhearשְׁמַעַןmy voice;קוֹלִיwivesנְשֵׁיof Lamech,לֶמֶךְlistenהַאְזֵנָּהto my saying:אִמְרָתִיforכִּיa manאִישׁI have killedהָרַגְתִּיfor wounding me,לְפִצְעִיand a young manוְיֶלֶדfor striking me.לְחַבֻּרָתִי
IfכִּיCainקָיִןis avengedיֻקַּםsevenfold,שִׁבְעָתַיִםthen Lamechוְלֶמֶךְseventyשִׁבְעִיםand seven fold.”וְשִׁבְעָה
AndוַAdamאָדָםknewיֵּדַעhis wifeאֶת אִשְׁתּוֹagain,עוֹדand she gave birthוַתֵּלֶדto a sonבֵּןand calledוַתִּקְרָאhis nameאֶת שְׁמוֹSeth,שֵׁת“forכִּיElohimאֱלֹהִיםhas grantedשָׁתmeלִיanotherאַחֵרoffspringזֶרַעin placeתַּחַתof Abel,הֶבֶלbecauseכִּיCainקָיִןkilled him.”הֲרָגוֹ
And to Seth,וּלְשֵׁתto himהוּאalso,גַּםa sonבֵּןwas born,יֻלַּדand he calledוַיִּקְרָאhis nameאֶת שְׁמוֹEnosh.אֱנוֹשׁThenאָזpeoplebeganהוּחַלto callלִקְרֹאon the nameבְּשֵׁםof YHWH.יְהוָה
