And the wordוַיְהִי דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcame to me,אֵלַיsaying:לֵאמֹר
“You shall notלֹאtakeתִקַּחfor yourselfלְךָa wife,אִשָּׁהnorוְלֹאshall you haveיִהְיוּ לְךָsonsבָּנִיםor daughtersוּבָנוֹתin this place.בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהconcerning the sonsעַל הַבָּנִיםand concerning the daughtersוְעַל הַבָּנוֹתwho are bornהַיִּלּוֹדִיםin this place,בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהand concerning their mothersוְעַל אִמֹּתָםwho bear them,הַיֹּלְדוֹת אוֹתָםand concerning their fathersוְעַל אֲבוֹתָםwho father themהַמּוֹלִדִים אוֹתָםin this land:בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת
Of deathsמְמוֹתֵיfrom diseasesתַחֲלֻאִיםthey will die;יָמֻתוּthey will notלֹאbe mournedיִסָּפְדוּorוְלֹאburied;יִקָּבֵרוּas dungלְדֹמֶןon the faceעַל פְּנֵיof the groundהָאֲדָמָהthey will be;יִהְיוּand by the swordוּבַחֶרֶבand by famineוּבָרָעָבthey will be finished off;יִכְלוּand their corpsesוְ נִבְלָתָםwill beהָיְתָהfoodלְמַאֲכָלfor the birdsלְעוֹףof the heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםand for the animalsוּלְבֶהֱמַתof the earth.הָאָרֶץ
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהDo notאַלenterתָּבוֹאa houseבֵּיתof funeral feasting,מַרְזֵחַnorוְאַלgoתֵּלֵךְto mourn,לִסְפּוֹדnorוְאַלgrieveתָּנֹדfor them,לָהֶםforכִּיI have withdrawnאָסַפְתִּיmy peaceאֶת שְׁלוֹמִיfrom this people,מֵאֵת הָעָם הַזֶּהdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהthe loyal loveאֶת הַחֶסֶדand the compassion.וְאֶת הָרַחֲמִים
And greatגְדֹלִיםand smallוּקְטַנִּיםwill dieוּמֵתוּin this land;בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאתthey will notלֹאbe buried,יִקָּבֵרוּnorוְלֹאwill people mournיִסְפְּדוּfor them,לָהֶםnorוְלֹאwill anyone make incisions,יִתְגֹּדַדnorוְלֹאshave himself baldיִקָּרֵחַfor them.לָהֶם
Norוְלֹאwill people break breadיִפְרְסוּfor themלָהֶםin mourningעַל אֵבֶלto comfort himלְנַחֲמוֹfor the dead,עַל מֵתnorוְלֹאgive them to drinkיַשְׁקוּ אוֹתָםthe cupכּוֹסof consolationתַּנְחוּמִיםfor his fatherעַל אָבִיוor for his mother.וְעַל אִמּוֹ
And a houseוּבֵיתof feastingמִשְׁתֶּהdo notלֹאenterתָבוֹאto sitלָשֶׁבֶתwith themאוֹתָםto eatלֶאֱכֹלand to drink.וְלִשְׁתּוֹת
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel:יִשְׂרָאֵלLook, I amהִנְנִיmaking ceaseמַשְׁבִּיתfrom this place,מִן הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהbefore your eyesלְעֵינֵיכֶםand in your days,וּבִימֵיכֶםthe voiceקוֹלof joyשָׂשׂוֹןand the voiceוְקוֹלof gladness,שִׂמְחָהthe voiceקוֹלof the bridegroomחָתָןand the voiceוְקוֹלof the bride.כַּלָּה
And it will be,וְהָיָהwhenכִּיyou tellתַגִּידthis peopleלָעָם הַזֶּהallאֵת כָּלthese words,הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּהand they say to you:וְאָמְרוּ אֵלֶיךָ‘Whyעַל מֶהhas YHWHיְהוָהspokenדִבֶּרagainst usעָלֵינוּallאֵת כָּלthis great evil?הָרָעָה הַגְּדוֹלָה הַזֹּאתAnd whatוּמֶהis our iniquity,עֲוֺנֵנוּand whatוּמֶהis our sinחַטָּאתֵנוּthatאֲשֶׁרwe have sinnedחָטָאנוּagainst YHWHלַיהוָהour Elohim?’אֱלֹהֵינוּ
then you will sayוְאָמַרְתָּto them:אֲלֵיהֶם‘Becauseעַל אֲשֶׁרyour fathersאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםabandoned me,עָזְבוּ אוֹתִיdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand walkedוַיֵּלְכוּafterאַחֲרֵיotherאֲחֵרִיםgods,אֱלֹהִיםand served themוַיַּעַבְדוּםand bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּto them,לָהֶםand meוְאֹתִיthey abandoned,עָזָבוּand my instructionוְאֶת תּוֹרָתִיthey did notלֹאkeep;שָׁמָרוּ
and youוְאַתֶּםhave done worseהֲרֵעֹתֶם לַעֲשׂוֹתthan your fathers;מֵאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםand look,וְהִנְּyouכֶםare walking,הֹלְכִיםeach oneאִישׁafterאַחֲרֵיthe stubbornnessשְׁרִרוּתof his evilהָרָעheart,לִבּוֹso as notלְבִלְתִּיto listen to me.שְׁמֹעַ אֵלָי
So I will hurl youוְהֵטַלְתִּי אֶתְכֶםout of this landמֵעַל הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאתinto a landעַל הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרneitherלֹאyouאַתֶּםnor your fathersוַאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםhave known,יְדַעְתֶּםand there you will serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּם שָׁםotherאֲחֵרִיםgodsאֶת אֱלֹהִיםdayיוֹמָםand night,וָלַיְלָהforאֲשֶׁרI will notלֹאgiveאֶתֵּןyouלָכֶםclemency.’חֲנִינָה
Thereforeלָכֵןlook,הִנֵּהdaysיָמִיםare coming,בָּאִיםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהwhen it will noוְלֹאlongerעוֹדbe said:יֵאָמֵר‘As YHWHיְהוָהlives,חַיwhoאֲשֶׁרbrought upהֶעֱלָהthe sonsאֶת בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלfrom the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt,’מִצְרָיִם
butכִּי אִם‘As YHWHיְהוָהlives,חַיwhoאֲשֶׁרbrought upהֶעֱלָהthe sonsאֶת בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלfrom the landמֵאֶרֶץof the northצָפוֹןand from allוּמִכֹּלthe landsהָאֲרָצוֹתwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁמָּהhe had driven them.’הִדִּיחָםAnd I will bring them backוַהֲשִׁבֹתִיםto their groundעַל אַדְמָתָםthatאֲשֶׁרI gaveנָתַתִּיto their fathers.לַאֲבוֹתָם
Look, I amהִנְנִיsendingשֹׁלֵחַfor manyלְ רַבִּיםfishermen,דַיָּגִיםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand they will fish them out;וְדִיגוּםand afterwardוְאַחֲרֵי כֵןI will sendאֶשְׁלַחfor manyלְרַבִּיםhunters,צַיָּדִיםand they will hunt themוְצָדוּםfrom upon everyמֵעַל כָּלmountainהַרand from upon everyוּמֵעַל כָּלhill,גִּבְעָהand from the cleftsוּמִנְּקִיקֵיof the rocks.הַסְּלָעִים
Forכִּיmy eyesעֵינַיare on allעַל כָּלtheir ways;דַּרְכֵיהֶםthey are notלֹאhiddenנִסְתְּרוּfrom before me,מִלְּפָנָיnorוְלֹאis their iniquityעֲוֺנָםconcealedנִצְפַּןfrom beforeמִנֶּגֶדmy eyes.עֵינָי
And I will repayוְשִׁלַּמְתִּיfirstרִאשׁוֹנָהdoubleמִשְׁנֵהtheir iniquityעֲוֺנָםand their sin,וְחַטָּאתָםbecauseעַלthey have profanedחַלְּלָםmy landאֶת אַרְצִיwith the carcassesבְּנִבְלַתof their detestable things,שִׁקּוּצֵיהֶםand with their abominationsוְתוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶםthey have filledמָלְאוּmy inheritance.”אֶת נַחֲלָתִי
YHWH,יְהוָהmy strengthעֻזִּיand my strongholdוּמָעֻזִּיand my place to fleeוּמְנוּסִיin the dayבְּיוֹםof distress,צָרָהto youאֵלֶיךָnationsגּוֹיִםwill comeיָבֹאוּfrom the endsמֵאַפְסֵיof the earthאָרֶץand say:וְיֹאמְרוּ“Surelyאַךְour fathersאֲבוֹתֵינוּinheritedנָחֲלוּfalsehood,שֶׁקֶרvapor,הֶבֶלand there is noוְאֵיןprofitמוֹעִילin them.”בָּם
Can a human beingהֲ אָדָםmakeיַעֲשֶׂהgodsאֱלֹהִיםfor himself?לּוֹYet theyוְהֵמָּהare notלֹאgods.אֱלֹהִים
Thereforeלָכֵןlook, I amהִנְנִיmaking them know,מוֹדִיעָםthis time,בַּפַּעַם הַזֹּאתI will make them knowאוֹדִיעֵםmy handאֶת יָדִיand my might,וְאֶת גְּבוּרָתִיand they will knowוְיָדְעוּthatכִּיmy nameשְׁמִיis YHWH.יְהוָה
