The menוַ אִישׁof Ephraimאֶפְרַיִםwere summoned,יִּצָּעֵקcrossedוַיַּעֲבֹרto Zaphon,צָפוֹנָהand saidוַיֹּאמְרוּto Jephthah,לְיִפְתָּח“Whyמַדּוּעַdid you cross overעָבַרְתָּto fightלְהִלָּחֵםagainst the sonsבִּבְנֵיof Ammonעַמּוֹןandוְnotלֹאcallקָרָאתָusלָנוּto goלָלֶכֶתwith you?עִמָּךְYour houseבֵּיתְךָwe will burnנִשְׂרֹףover youעָלֶיךָwith fire!”בָּאֵשׁ
Jephthahוַ יִפְתָּחsaidיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵיהֶם“Iאֲנִיand my peopleוְעַמִּיwereהָיִיתִיina greatמְאֹדquarrelאִישׁ רִיבwith the sonsוּבְנֵיof Ammon,עַמּוֹןand I cried outוָאֶזְעַקto you,אֶתְכֶםbutוְyou did notלֹאsaveהוֹשַׁעְתֶּםmeאוֹתִיfrom their hand.מִיָּדָם
When I sawוָאֶרְאֶהthatכִּיyou were notאֵינְךָsaving,מוֹשִׁיעI putוָאָשִׂימָהmy lifeנַפְשִׁיin my handבְכַפִּיand crossed overוָאֶעְבְּרָהtoאֶלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Ammon,עַמּוֹןand YHWHוַ יְהוָהgave themיִּתְּנֵםinto my hand.בְּיָדִיSoוְwhyלָמָהhave you come upעֲלִיתֶםto meאֵלַיthisהַזֶּהdayהַיּוֹםto fightלְהִלָּחֶםagainst me?”בִּי
Then Jephthahוַ יִפְתָּחgatheredיִּקְבֹּץallאֶת כָּלthe menאַנְשֵׁיof Gileadגִלְעָדand foughtוַיִּלָּחֶםwith Ephraim,אֶת אֶפְרָיִםand the menוַ אַנְשֵׁיof GileadגִלְעָדstruckיַּכּוּEphraim,אֶת אֶפְרַיִםbecauseכִּיthey had said,אָמְרוּ“Youאַתֶּםarefugitivesפְּלִיטֵיof Ephraim,אֶפְרַיִםGilead,גִּלְעָדin the midstבְּתוֹךְof Ephraim,אֶפְרַיִםin the midstבְּתוֹךְof Manasseh.”מְנַשֶּׁה
Gileadוַ גִּלְעָדtookיִּלְכֹּדthe fordsאֶת מַעְבְּרוֹתof the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןagainst Ephraim;לְאֶפְרָיִםand it would happenוְהָיָהthat whenכִּיthe fugitivesפְּלִיטֵיof Ephraimאֶפְרַיִםsaid,יֹאמְרוּ“Let me cross,”אֶעֱבֹרָהthe menוַ אַנְשֵׁיof Gileadגִלְעָדwould sayיֹּאמְרוּto him,לוֹ“Are youאַתָּהan Ephraimite?”הַאֶפְרָתִיAnd he would say,וַיֹּאמֶר“No.”לֹא
Then they would sayוַיֹּאמְרוּto him,לוֹ“Say,אֱמָרplease,נָא‘Shibboleth.’”שִׁבֹּלֶתAnd he would say,וַיֹּאמֶר“Sibboleth,”סִבֹּלֶתforוְhe could notלֹא יָכִיןsay itלְדַבֵּרthat way.כֵּןThen they would seizeוַיֹּאחֲזוּhimאוֹתוֹand slaughter himוַיִּשְׁחָטוּהוּatאֶלthe fordsמַעְבְּרוֹתof the Jordan.הַיַּרְדֵּןAnd there fellוַיִּפֹּלat thatבָּ הַהִיאtime,עֵתof Ephraim,מֵאֶפְרַיִםforty-twoאַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁנַיִםthousand.אָלֶף
Jephthahוַ יִפְתָּחjudgedיִּשְׁפֹּטIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלsixשֵׁשׁyears.שָׁנִיםThen Jephthahוַ יִפְתָּחthe Gileaditeהַגִּלְעָדִיdiedיָּמָתand was buriedוַיִּקָּבֵרin one of the citiesבְּעָרֵיof Gilead.גִלְעָד
After himוַ אַחֲרָיוIbzanאִבְצָןfrom Bethlehemמִבֵּית לָחֶםjudgedיִּשְׁפֹּטIsrael.אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל
He hadוַיְהִי לוֹthirtyשְׁלֹשִׁיםsons,בָּנִיםand thirtyוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםdaughtersבָּנוֹתhe sentשִׁלַּחoutside,הַחוּצָהand thirtyוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםdaughtersבָּנוֹתhe broughtהֵבִיאfor his sonsלְבָנָיוfromמִןoutside.הַחוּץHe judgedוַיִּשְׁפֹּטIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלsevenשֶׁבַעyears.שָׁנִים
And Ibzanוַ אִבְצָןdiedיָּמָתand was buriedוַיִּקָּבֵרin Bethlehem.בְּבֵית לָחֶם
After himוַ אַחֲרָיוElonאֵילוֹןthe ZebuluniteהַזְּבוּלֹנִיjudgedיִּשְׁפֹּטIsrael;אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלhe judgedוַיִּשְׁפֹּטIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלtenעֶשֶׂרyears.שָׁנִים
And Elonוַ אֵלוֹןthe Zebuluniteהַזְּבוּלֹנִיdiedיָּמָתand was buriedוַיִּקָּבֵרat Aijalonבְּאַיָּלוֹןin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Zebulun.זְבוּלֻן
After himוַ אַחֲרָיוAbdonעַבְדּוֹןsonבֶּןof Hillelהִלֵּלthe PirathoniteהַפִּרְעָתוֹנִיjudgedיִּשְׁפֹּטIsrael.אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל
He hadוַיְהִי לוֹfortyאַרְבָּעִיםsonsבָּנִיםand thirtyוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםsonsבְּנֵיof his sons,בָנִיםwho rodeרֹכְבִיםonעַלseventyשִׁבְעִיםdonkeys.עֲיָרִםHe judgedוַיִּשְׁפֹּטIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלeightשְׁמֹנֶהyears.שָׁנִים
And Abdonוַ עַבְדּוֹןsonבֶּןof Hillelהִלֵּלthe Pirathoniteהַפִּרְעָתוֹנִיdiedיָּמָתand was buriedוַיִּקָּבֵרat Pirathonבְּפִרְעָתוֹןin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Ephraim,אֶפְרַיִםin the hill countryבְּהַרof the Amalekites.הָעֲמָלֵקִי
