And the sonsוַ בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלagainיֹּסִפוּdidלַעֲשׂוֹתwhat was evilהָרַעin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהand YHWHוַ יְהוָהgave themיִּתְּנֵםinto the handבְּיַדof the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּיםfortyאַרְבָּעִיםyears.שָׁנָה
There wasוַיְהִיa certainאֶחָדmanאִישׁfrom Zorah,מִצָּרְעָהof the familyמִמִּשְׁפַּחַתof the Danites,הַדָּנִיand his nameוּשְׁמוֹwasManoah.מָנוֹחַHis wifeוְאִשְׁתּוֹwasbarrenעֲקָרָהandוְhad notלֹאborne children.יָלָדָה
And the angelוַ מַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהappearedיֵּרָאtoאֶלthe womanהָאִשָּׁהand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto her,אֵלֶיהָ“Lookהִנֵּהnow,נָאyouאַתְּarebarrenעֲקָרָהandוְhave notלֹאborne children;יָלַדְתְּbut you will conceiveוְהָרִיתand bearוְיָלַדְתְּa son.בֵּן
Nowוְעַתָּהbe careful,הִשָּׁמְרִיplease,נָאandוְdo notאַלdrinkתִּשְׁתִּיwineיַיִןorוְintoxicating drink,שֵׁכָרandוְdo notאַלeatתֹּאכְלִיanythingכָּלunclean.טָמֵא
Forכִּיlook,הִנָּyou will beךְpregnantהָרָהand bearוְיֹלַדְתְּa son.בֵּןAndוּnoלֹאrazorמוֹרָהshall come upיַעֲלֶהonעַלhis head,רֹאשׁוֹforכִּיthe boyהַנַּעַרshall beיִהְיֶהa Naziriteנְזִירof Elohimאֱלֹהִיםfromמִןthe womb,הַבָּטֶןand heוְהוּאwill beginיָחֵלto saveלְהוֹשִׁיעַIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלfrom the handמִיַּדof the Philistines.”פְּלִשְׁתִּים
Then the womanוַ הָאִשָּׁהcameתָּבֹאand saidוַתֹּאמֶרto her husband,לְאִישָׁהּ“A manאִישׁof Elohimהָאֱלֹהִיםcameבָּאto me,אֵלַיand his appearanceוּמַרְאֵהוּwaslike the appearanceכְּמַרְאֵהof the angelמַלְאַךְof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםveryמְאֹדfearsome.נוֹרָאAndוְI did notלֹאask himשְׁאִלְתִּיהוּwhereאֵיhe wasהוּאfrom,מִזֶּהandוְhis nameאֶת שְׁמוֹhe did notלֹאtellהִגִּידme.לִי
But he saidוַיֹּאמֶרto me,לִי‘Look,הִנָּyou will beךְpregnantהָרָהand bearוְיֹלַדְתְּa son;בֵּןso nowוְעַתָּהdo notאַלdrinkתִּשְׁתִּיwineיַיִןorוְintoxicating drink,שֵׁכָרandוְdo notאַלeatתֹּאכְלִיanyכָּלuncleanness,טֻמְאָהforכִּיthe boyהַנַּעַרshall beיִהְיֶהa Naziriteנְזִירof Elohimאֱלֹהִיםfromמִןthe wombהַבֶּטֶןuntilעַדthe dayיוֹםof his death.’”מוֹתוֹ
Then Manoahוַ מָנוֹחַpleadedיֶּעְתַּרwithאֶלYHWHיְהוָהand said,וַיֹּאמַר“Pardon,בִּיAdonai,אֲדוֹנָיletיָבוֹאthe manאִישׁ הָof Elohimאֱלֹהִיםwhomאֲשֶׁרyou sentשָׁלַחְתָּcomeיָבוֹאagain,עוֹדplease,נָאto usאֵלֵינוּand teach usוְיוֹרֵנוּwhatמַהwe should doנַּעֲשֶׂהfor the boyלַנַּעַרwho will be born.”הַיּוּלָּד
And Elohimוַ הָאֱלֹהִיםlistenedיִּשְׁמַעto the voiceבְּקוֹלof Manoah,מָנוֹחַand the angelוַ מַלְאַךְof Elohimהָאֱלֹהִיםcameיָּבֹאagainעוֹדtoאֶלthe womanהָאִשָּׁהwhile sheוְהִיאwas sittingיוֹשֶׁבֶתin the field;בַּשָּׂדֶהbut Manoahוּמָנוֹחַher husbandאִישָׁהּwas notאֵיןwith her.עִמָּהּ
So the womanוַ הָאִשָּׁהhurriedתְּמַהֵרand ranוַתָּרָץand toldוַתַּגֵּדher husband;לְאִישָׁהּshe saidוַתֹּאמֶרto him,אֵלָיו“Look,הִנֵּהthe manהָאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרcameבָּאto meאֵלָיthat dayבַיּוֹםhas appearedנִרְאָהto me!”אֵלַי
Manoahמָנוֹחַaroseוַיָּקָםand wentוַיֵּלֶךְafterאַחֲרֵיhis wife,אִשְׁתּוֹand cameוַיָּבֹאtoאֶלthe manהָאִישׁand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto him,לוֹ“Are youהַאַתָּהthe manהָאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרspokeדִּבַּרְתָּtoאֶלthe woman?”הָאִשָּׁהAnd he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“I am.”אָנִי
Then Manoahוַ מָנוֹחַsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Nowעַתָּהlet your wordsדְבָרֶיךָcome!יָבֹאWhatמַהwill beיִּהְיֶהthe ruleמִשְׁפַּטfor the boy,הַנַּעַרand his work?”וּמַעֲשֵׂהוּ
And the angelוַ מַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלManoah,מָנוֹחַ“Of allמִכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרI saidאָמַרְתִּיtoאֶלthe womanהָאִשָּׁהlet her be careful.תִּשָּׁמֵר
Of anythingמִכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרcomesיֵצֵאfrom the grapevineמִגֶּפֶן הַיַּיִןshe shall notלֹאeat,תֹאכַלandוְwineיַיִןorוְintoxicating drinkשֵׁכָרshe shall notאַלdrink,תֵּשְׁתְּandוְanyכָלuncleannessטֻמְאָהshe shall notאַלeat.תֹּאכַלAllכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרI commanded herצִוִּיתִיהָshe shall keep.”תִּשְׁמֹר
And Manoahוַ מָנוֹחַsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלthe angelמַלְאַךְof YHWH,יְהוָה“Let us detainנַעְצְרָהyou,אוֹתָךְplease,נָּאand prepareוְנַעֲשֶׂהbefore youלְפָנֶיךָa young goat.”גְּדִי עִזִּים
And the angelוַ מַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלManoah,מָנוֹחַ“Even ifאִםyou detain me,תַּעְצְרֵנִיI will notלֹאeatאֹכַלof your bread;בְּלַחְמֶךָbutוְifאִםyou prepareתַּעֲשֶׂהa burnt offeringעֹלָהto YHWH,לַיהוָהoffer it up.”תַּעֲלֶנָּהForכִּיManoahמָנוֹחַdid notלֹאknowיָדַעthatכִּיheהוּאwasthe angelמַלְאַךְof YHWH.יְהוָה
And Manoahוַ מָנוֹחַsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלthe angelמַלְאַךְof YHWH,יְהוָה“Whatמִיisyour name,שְׁמֶךָso that whenכִּיyour wordדְבָרְךָcomes,יָבֹאwe may honor you?”וְכִבַּדְנוּךָ
And the angelוַ מַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto him,לּוֹ“Whyלָמָּה זֶּהdo you askתִּשְׁאַלfor my name?לִשְׁמִיItוְהוּאiswonderful.”פֶלִאי
So Manoahוַ מָנוֹחַtookיִּקַּחthe young goatאֶת גְּדִי הָעִזִּיםandוְthe grain offeringאֶת הַמִּנְחָהand offered them upוַיַּעַלonעַלthe rockהַצּוּרto YHWH;לַיהוָהand heוּdid a wonderמַפְלִא לַעֲשׂוֹתwhile Manoahוּמָנוֹחַand his wifeוְאִשְׁתּוֹwere watching.רֹאִים
And it happened,וַיְהִיasבַthe flameהַלַּהַבwent upעֲלוֹתfrom onמֵעַלthe altarהַמִּזְבֵּחַtoward the heavens,הַשָּׁמַיְמָהthat the angelוַ מַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהwent upיַּעַלin the flameבְּלַהַבof the altar,הַמִּזְבֵּחַwhile Manoahוּמָנוֹחַand his wifeוְאִשְׁתּוֹwere watching;רֹאִיםand they fellוַיִּפְּלוּonעַלtheir facesפְּנֵיהֶםto the ground.אָרְצָה
And the angelוְ מַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהdid notלֹאappearלְהֵרָאֹהagainיָסַף עוֹדtoאֶלManoahמָנוֹחַorוְtoאֶלhis wife.אִשְׁתּוֹThenאָזManoahמָנוֹחַknewיָדַעthatכִּיheהוּאwasthe angelמַלְאַךְof YHWH.יְהוָה
And Manoahוַ מָנוֹחַsaidיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלhis wife,אִשְׁתּוֹ“We will surelyמוֹתdie,נָמוּתforכִּיwe have seenרָאִינוּElohim!”אֱלֹהִים
But his wifeוַ אִשְׁתּוֹsaidתֹּאמֶרto him,לוֹ“IfלוּYHWHיְהוָהhad wantedחָפֵץto put us to death,לַהֲמִיתֵנוּhe would notלֹאhave acceptedלָקַחfrom our handמִיָּדֵנוּa burnt offeringעֹלָהand a grain offering,וּמִנְחָהandוְhe would notלֹאhave shown usהֶרְאָנוּallאֶת כָּלthese things,אֵלֶּהandוְhe would notלֹאnowכָעֵתhave let us hearהִשְׁמִיעָנוּthings like this.”כָּזֹאת
And the womanוַ הָאִשָּׁהboreתֵּלֶדa sonבֵּןand calledוַתִּקְרָאhis nameאֶת שְׁמוֹSamson.שִׁמְשׁוֹןAnd the boyוַ הַנַּעַרgrew,יִּגְדַּלand YHWHוַ יְהוָהblessed him.יְבָרְכֵהוּ
And the spiritוַ רוּחַof YHWHיְהוָהbeganתָּחֶלto stir himלְפַעֲמוֹin Mahaneh-dan,בְּמַחֲנֵה דָןbetweenבֵּיןZorahצָרְעָהandוּבֵיןEshtaol.אֶשְׁתָּאֹל
