The angelמַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהwent upוַיַּעַלfromמִןGilgalהַגִּלְגָּלtoאֶלBochimהַבֹּכִיםand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“I brought you upאַעֲלֶה אֶתְכֶםfrom Egyptמִמִּצְרַיִםand brought youוָאָבִיא אֶתְכֶםintoאֶלthe landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI sworeנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיto your fathers,לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶםand I said,וָאֹמַר‘I will neverלֹא לְעוֹלָםbreakאָפֵרmy covenantבְּרִיתִיwith you;אִתְּכֶם
and you,וְאַתֶּםyou shall notלֹאmakeתִכְרְתוּa covenantבְרִיתwith the inhabitantsלְיוֹשְׁבֵיof this land;הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאתtheir altarsמִזְבְּחוֹתֵיהֶםyou shall tear down.’תִּתֹּצוּןBut you have notוְלֹאlistenedשְׁמַעְתֶּםto my voice.בְּקֹלִיWhatמַהis thisזֹּאתyou have done?עֲשִׂיתֶם
So I alsoוְגַםsaid,אָמַרְתִּי‘I will notלֹאdrive them outאֲגָרֵשׁ אוֹתָםbefore you;מִפְּנֵיכֶםthey will becomeוְהָיוּthorns in your sides,לָכֶם לְצִדִּיםand their godsוֵאלֹהֵיהֶםwill beיִהְיוּto youלָכֶםa trap.’”לְמוֹקֵשׁ
Whenוַיְהִי כְּthe angelמַלְאַךְof YHWHיְהוָהspokeדַבֵּרthese wordsאֶת הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּהtoאֶלallכָּלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלthe peopleהָעָםlifted upוַיִּשְׂאוּtheir voiceאֶת קוֹלָםand wept.וַיִּבְכּוּ
They calledוַיִּקְרְאוּthe nameשֵׁםof that placeהַמָּקוֹם הַהוּאBochim,בֹּכִיםand they sacrificedוַיִּזְבְּחוּthereשָׁםto YHWH.לַיהוָה
Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsent awayוַיְשַׁלַּחthe people,אֶת הָעָםand the sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwent,יֵּלְכוּeachאִישׁto his inheritance,לְנַחֲלָתוֹto take possessionלָרֶשֶׁתof the land.אֶת הָאָרֶץ
The peopleהָעָםservedוַיַּעַבְדוּYHWHאֶת יְהוָהallכֹּלthe daysיְמֵיof Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַand allוְכֹלthe daysיְמֵיof the eldersהַזְּקֵנִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרprolongedהֶאֱרִיכוּtheir daysיָמִיםafterאַחֲרֵיJoshua,יְהוֹשׁוּעַwhoאֲשֶׁרhad seenרָאוּallאֵת כָּלthe greatהַגָּדוֹלworkמַעֲשֵׂהof YHWHיְהוָהthatאֲשֶׁרhe had doneעָשָׂהfor Israel.לְיִשְׂרָאֵל
Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבִּןof Nun,נוּןthe servantעֶבֶדof YHWH,יְהוָהdied,וַיָּמָתa hundredבֶּן מֵאָהand tenוָעֶשֶׂרyears old.שָׁנִים
They buried himוַיִּקְבְּרוּ אוֹתוֹin the territoryבִּגְבוּלof his inheritance,נַחֲלָתוֹin Timnath-heres,בְּתִמְנַת חֶרֶסin the hill countryבְּהַרof Ephraim,אֶפְרָיִםnorthמִצְּפוֹןof MountלְהַרGaash.גָּעַשׁ
And alsoוְגַםallכָּלthat generationהַדּוֹר הַהוּאwere gatheredנֶאֶסְפוּtoאֶלtheir fathers,אֲבוֹתָיוand there aroseוַיָּקָםanotherאַחֵרgenerationדּוֹרafter themאַחֲרֵיהֶםwhoאֲשֶׁרdid notלֹאknowיָדְעוּYHWH,אֶת יְהוָהnor evenוְגַםthe workאֶת הַמַּעֲשֶׂהthatאֲשֶׁרhe had doneעָשָׂהfor Israel.לְיִשְׂרָאֵל
The sonsבְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלdidוַיַּעֲשׂוּwhat was evilאֶת הָרַעin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWHיְהוָהand servedוַיַּעַבְדוּthe Baals.אֶת הַבְּעָלִים
They abandonedוַיַּעַזְבוּYHWH,אֶת יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof their fathers,אֲבוֹתָםwho brought them outהַמּוֹצִיא אוֹתָםof the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרַיִםand they wentוַיֵּלְכוּafterאַחֲרֵיotherאֲחֵרִיםgods,אֱלֹהִיםfrom the godsמֵאֱלֹהֵיof the peoplesהָעַמִּיםwhoאֲשֶׁרwere around them,סְבִיבוֹתֵיהֶםand they bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּto themלָהֶםand provoked YHWH to anger.וַיַּכְעִסוּ אֶת יְהוָה
They abandonedוַיַּעַזְבוּYHWHאֶת יְהוָהand servedוַיַּעַבְדוּBaalלַבַּעַלand the Astartes.וְלָעַשְׁתָּרוֹת
The angerאַףof YHWHיְהוָהburnedוַיִּחַרagainst Israel,בְּיִשְׂרָאֵלand he gave themוַיִּתְּנֵםinto the handבְּיַדof plunderers,שֹׁסִיםwho plundered them;וַיָּשֹׁסּוּ אוֹתָםand he sold themוַיִּמְכְּרֵםinto the handבְּיַדof their enemiesאוֹיְבֵיהֶםall around,מִסָּבִיבand they couldוְ יָכְלוּnoלֹאlongerעוֹדstandלַעֲמֹדbeforeלִפְנֵיtheir enemies.אוֹיְבֵיהֶם
Whereverבְּכֹל אֲשֶׁרthey went out,יָצְאוּthe handיַדof YHWHיְהוָהwasהָיְתָהagainst themבָּםfor evil,לְרָעָהasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad spokenדִּבֶּרand asוְכַאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad swornנִשְׁבַּעto them;לָהֶםand they were in distressוַיֵּצֶר לָהֶםgreatly.מְאֹד
Then YHWHוַ יְהוָהraised upיָּקֶםjudges,שֹׁפְטִיםand they saved themוַיּוֹשִׁיעוּםfrom the handמִיַּדof those who plundered them.שֹׁסֵיהֶם
Yet evenוְגַםto their judgesאֶל שֹׁפְטֵיהֶםthey did notלֹאlisten,שָׁמֵעוּforכִּיthey prostituted themselvesזָנוּafterאַחֲרֵיotherאֲחֵרִיםgodsאֱלֹהִיםand bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּto them.לָהֶםThey turned asideסָרוּquicklyמַהֵרfromמִןthe wayהַדֶּרֶךְin whichאֲשֶׁרtheir fathersאֲבוֹתָםhad walked,הָלְכוּlisteningלִשְׁמֹעַto the commandmentsמִצְוֺתof YHWH;יְהוָהthey did notלֹאdoעָשׂוּso.כֵן
WheneverוְכִיYHWHיְהוָהraised upהֵקִיםjudgesשֹׁפְטִיםfor them,לָהֶםYHWHיְהוָהwasוְהָיָהwithעִםthe judgeהַשֹּׁפֵטand saved themוְהוֹשִׁיעָםfrom the handמִיַּדof their enemiesאֹיְבֵיהֶםallכֹּלthe daysיְמֵיof the judge;הַשּׁוֹפֵטforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהwas moved to pityיִנָּחֵםby their groaningמִנַּאֲקָתָםbecause ofמִפְּנֵיthose who oppressed themלֹחֲצֵיהֶםand harassed them.וְדֹחֲקֵיהֶם
But whenוְהָיָה בְּthe judgeהַשּׁוֹפֵטdied,מוֹתthey would turn backיָשֻׁבוּand act more corruptlyוְהִשְׁחִיתוּthan their fathers,מֵאֲבוֹתָםgoingלָלֶכֶתafterאַחֲרֵיotherאֲחֵרִיםgodsאֱלֹהִיםto serve themלְעָבְדָםand to bow downוּלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺתto them;לָהֶםthey did notלֹאlet go of anyהִפִּילוּof their deedsמִמַּעַלְלֵיהֶםor of their stubbornוּמִ הַקָּשָׁהway.דַּרְכָּם
The angerאַףof YHWHיְהוָהburnedוַיִּחַרagainst Israel,בְּיִשְׂרָאֵלand he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Becauseיַעַן אֲשֶׁרthis nationהַגּוֹי הַזֶּהhas transgressedעָבְרוּmy covenantאֶת בְּרִיתִיthatאֲשֶׁרI commandedצִוִּיתִיtheir fathers,אֶת אֲבוֹתָםand they have notוְלֹאlistenedשָׁמְעוּto my voice,לְקוֹלִי
I alsoגַּם אֲנִיwill no longerלֹא אוֹסִיףdispossessלְהוֹרִישׁbefore themמִפְּנֵיהֶםany manאִישׁofמִןthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםthatאֲשֶׁרJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַleftעָזַבwhen he died,וַיָּמֹת
in orderלְמַעַןto testנַסּוֹתIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלby them,בָּםwhetherהֲtheyהֵםwill keepשֹׁמְרִיםthe wayאֶת דֶּרֶךְof YHWH,יְהוָהwalkingלָלֶכֶתin it,בָּםasכַּאֲשֶׁרtheir fathersאֲבוֹתָםkept it,שָׁמְרוּorאִםnot.”לֹא
So YHWHוַ יְהוָהleftיַּנַּחthese nations,אֶת הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּהnotלְבִלְתִּיdispossessing themהוֹרִישָׁםquickly,מַהֵרand he did notוְלֹאgive themנְתָנָםinto the handבְּיַדof Joshua.יְהוֹשֻׁעַ
