And Mosesוַ מֹשֶׁהand the eldersוְזִקְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלcommandedיְצַוthe people,הָעָםsaying,לֵאמֹר“Keepשָׁמֹרallכָּלthe commandmentהַמִּצְוָהthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam commandingמְצַוֶּהyouאֶתְכֶםtoday.הַיּוֹם
And it shall be,וְהָיָהon the dayבַּיּוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרyou crossתַּעַבְרוּthe Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןintoאֶלthe landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָis givingנֹתֵןyou,לָךְthat you shall set upוַהֲקֵמֹתָfor yourselfלְךָlargeגְּדֹלוֹתstonesאֲבָנִיםand plasterוְשַׂדְתָּthemאֹתָםwith plaster.בַּשִּׂיד
And you shall writeוְכָתַבְתָּon themעֲלֵיהֶןallכָּלthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof thisהַזֹּאתinstructionהַתּוֹרָהwhen you cross,בְּעָבְרֶךָso thatלְמַעַן אֲשֶׁרyou may enterתָּבֹאintoאֶלthe landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָis givingנֹתֵןyou,לְךָa landאֶרֶץflowingזָבַתwith milkחָלָבand honey,וּדְבַשׁasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof your fathers,אֲבֹתֶיךָhas spokenדִּבֶּרto you.לָךְ
And it shall be,וְהָיָהwhen you crossבְּעָבְרְכֶםthe Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןthat you shall set upתָּקִימוּtheseהָאֵלֶּהstones,הָאֲבָנִיםwhichאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam commandingמְצַוֶּהyouאֶתְכֶםtoday,הַיּוֹםon MountבְּהַרEbal,עֵיבָלand you shall plasterוְשַׂדְתָּthemאוֹתָםwith plaster.בַּשִּׂיד
And you shall buildוּבָנִיתָthereשָּׁםan altarמִזְבֵּחַto YHWHלַיהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֶיךָan altarמִזְבַּחof stones;אֲבָנִיםyou shall notלֹאwieldתָנִיףironבַּרְזֶלon them.עֲלֵיהֶם
Of wholeשְׁלֵמוֹתstonesאֲבָנִיםyou shall buildתִּבְנֶהthe altarמִזְבַּחof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֶיךָand you shall offer upוְהַעֲלִיתָon itעָלָיוburnt offeringsעוֹלֹתto YHWHלַיהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֶיךָ
And you shall sacrificeוְזָבַחְתָּpeace offeringsשְׁלָמִיםand eatוְאָכַלְתָּthereשָּׁםand rejoiceוְשָׂמַחְתָּbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֶיךָ
And you shall writeוְכָתַבְתָּonעַלthe stonesהָאֲבָנִיםallכָּלthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof thisהַזֹּאתinstructionהַתּוֹרָהveryהֵיטֵבplainly.”בַּאֵר
And Mosesוַ מֹשֶׁהand the Leviticalוְ הַלְוִיִּםpriestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםspokeיְדַבֵּרtoאֶלallכָּלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלsaying,לֵאמֹר“Be silentהַסְכֵּתand listen,וּשְׁמַעIsrael:יִשְׂרָאֵלthisהַזֶּהdayהַיּוֹםyou have becomeנִהְיֵיתָa peopleלְעָםfor YHWHלַיהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֶיךָ
So you shall listenוְשָׁמַעְתָּto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָand doוְעָשִׂיתָhis commandmentsמִצְוֺתָוand his statutes,וְ חֻקָּיוwhichאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam commanding youמְצַוְּךָtoday.”הַיּוֹם
And Mosesוַ מֹשֶׁהcommandedיְצַוthe peopleהָעָםon thatבַּ הַהוּאday,יּוֹםsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Theseאֵלֶּהshall standיַעַמְדוּto blessלְבָרֵךְthe peopleהָעָםonעַלMountהַרGerizimגְּרִזִיםwhen you crossבְּעָבְרְכֶםthe Jordan:הַיַּרְדֵּןSimeonשִׁמְעוֹןand Leviוְלֵוִיand Judahוִיהוּדָהand Issacharוְיִשָּׂשכָרand Josephוְיוֹסֵףand Benjamin.וּבִנְיָמִן
And theseוְאֵלֶּהshall standיַעַמְדוּforעַלthe curseהַקְּלָלָהon MountבְּהַרEbal:עֵיבָלReuben,רְאוּבֵןGad,גָּדand Asherוְאָשֵׁרand Zebulun,וּזְבוּלֻןDan,דָּןand Naphtali.וְנַפְתָּלִי
And the Levitesוְ הַלְוִיִּםshall answerעָנוּand sayוְאָמְרוּtoאֶלeveryכָּלmanאִישׁof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלin a loudרָםvoice:קוֹל
‘Cursed beאָרוּרthe manהָאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרmakesיַעֲשֶׂהa carved imageפֶסֶלor a cast image,וּמַסֵּכָהan abominationתּוֹעֲבַתto YHWH,יְהוָהthe workמַעֲשֵׂהof the handsיְדֵיof a craftsman,חָרָשׁand sets it upוְשָׂםin secret.’בַּסָּתֶרAnd allוְ כָלthe peopleהָעָםshall answerעָנוּand say,וְאָמְרוּ‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who treats with contemptמַקְלֶהhis fatherאָבִיוand his mother.’וְאִמּוֹAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who movesמַסִּיגhis neighbor’sרֵעֵהוּboundary marker.’גְּבוּלAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who misleadsמַשְׁגֶּהa blind manעִוֵּרon the way.’בַּדָּרֶךְAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who pervertsמַטֶּהthe justice dueמִשְׁפַּטthe resident alien,גֵּרthe orphan,יָתוֹםand the widow.’וְאַלְמָנָהAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who liesשֹׁכֵבwithעִםhis father’sאָבִיוwife,אֵשֶׁתbecauseכִּיhe has uncoveredגִלָּהthe edge of the garmentכְּנַףof his father.’אָבִיוAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who liesשֹׁכֵבwithעִםanyכָּלanimal.’בְּהֵמָהAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who liesשֹׁכֵבwithעִםhis sister,אֲחֹתוֹhis father’sאָבִיוdaughterבַּתorאוֹhis mother’sאִמּוֹdaughter.’בַתAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who liesשֹׁכֵבwithעִםhis mother-in-law.’חֹתַנְתּוֹAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who strikesמַכֵּהhis neighborרֵעֵהוּin secret.’בַּסָּתֶרAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe who takesלֹקֵחַa bribeשֹׁחַדto strike downלְהַכּוֹתa person,נֶפֶשׁinnocentנָקִיblood.’דָּםAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’אָמֵן
‘Cursed beאָרוּרhe whoאֲשֶׁרdoes notלֹאconfirmיָקִיםthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof thisהַזֹּאתinstructionהַתּוֹרָהby doingלַעֲשׂוֹתthem.’אוֹתָםAnd allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםshall say,אָמַר‘Amen.’”אָמֵן
