It came aboutוַיְהִיin the daysבִּימֵיof Amraphelאַמְרָפֶלkingמֶלֶךְof Shinar,שִׁנְעָרAriochאַרְיוֹךְkingמֶלֶךְof Ellasar,אֶלָּסָרChedorlaomerכְּדָרְלָעֹמֶרkingמֶלֶךְof Elam,עֵילָםand Tidalוְתִדְעָלkingמֶלֶךְof Goiim,גּוֹיִם
that they madeעָשׂוּwarמִלְחָמָהwith Beraאֶת בֶּרַעkingמֶלֶךְof Sodom,סְדֹםwith Birshaוְאֶת בִּרְשַׁעkingמֶלֶךְof Gomorrah,עֲמֹרָהShinabשִׁנְאָבkingמֶלֶךְof Admah,אַדְמָהShemeberוְשֶׁמְאֵבֶרkingמֶלֶךְof Zeboiim,צְבוֹיִיםand the kingוּמֶלֶךְof Belaבֶּלַע(that is,הִיאZoar).צֹעַר
Allכָּלtheseאֵלֶּהjoined forcesחָבְרוּat the Valleyאֶל עֵמֶקof Siddimהַשִּׂדִּים(that is,הוּאthe SaltהַמֶּלַחSea).יָם
Twelveשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵהyearsשָׁנָהthey had servedעָבְדוּChedorlaomer,אֶת כְּדָרְלָעֹמֶרand in the thirteenthוּשְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵהyearשָׁנָהthey rebelled.מָרָדוּ
In the fourteenthוּבְאַרְבַּע עֶשְׂרֵהyearשָׁנָהChedorlaomerכְדָרְלָעֹמֶרand the kingsוְהַמְּלָכִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרwere with himאִתּוֹcameבָּאand defeatedוַיַּכּוּthe Rephaimאֶת רְפָאִיםin Ashteroth-karnaim,בְּעַשְׁתְּרֹת קַרְנַיִםthe Zuzimוְאֶת הַזּוּזִיםin Ham,בְּהָםthe Emimוְאֵת הָאֵימִיםin Shaveh-kiriathaim,בְּשָׁוֵה קִרְיָתָיִם
and the Horitesוְאֶת הַחֹרִיin their mountainsבְּהַרְרָםof Seir,שֵׂעִירas far asעַדEl-paran,אֵיל פָּארָןwhichאֲשֶׁרis byעַלthe wilderness.הַמִּדְבָּר
Then they turned backוַיָּשֻׁבוּand cameוַיָּבֹאוּto En-mishpatאֶל עֵין מִשְׁפָּט(that is,הִואKadesh)קָדֵשׁand defeatedוַיַּכּוּthe wholeאֶת כָּלterritoryשְׂדֵהof the Amalekites,הָעֲמָלֵקִיand alsoוְגַםthe Amoritesאֶת הָאֱמֹרִיwho livedהַיֹּשֵׁבin Hazazon-tamar.בְּחַצְצֹן תָּמָר
Then the kingוַ מֶלֶךְof Sodom,סְדֹםthe kingוּמֶלֶךְof Gomorrah,עֲמֹרָהthe kingוּמֶלֶךְof Admah,אַדְמָהthe kingוּמֶלֶךְof Zeboiim,צְבוֹיִםand the kingוּמֶלֶךְof Belaבֶּלַע(that is,הִואZoar)צֹעַרwent outיֵּצֵאand drew upוַיַּעַרְכוּbattle linesמִלְחָמָהagainst themאִתָּםin the Valleyבְּעֵמֶקof Siddim,הַשִּׂדִּים
against Chedorlaomerאֵת כְּדָרְלָעֹמֶרkingמֶלֶךְof Elam,עֵילָםTidalוְתִדְעָלkingמֶלֶךְof Goiim,גּוֹיִםAmraphelוְאַמְרָפֶלkingמֶלֶךְof Shinar,שִׁנְעָרand Ariochוְאַרְיוֹךְkingמֶלֶךְof Ellasar:אֶלָּסָרfourאַרְבָּעָהkingsמְלָכִיםagainst the five.אֶת הַחֲמִשָּׁה
Now the Valleyוְעֵמֶקof Siddimהַשִׂדִּיםwas pit after pitבֶּאֱרֹת בֶּאֱרֹתof bitumen;חֵמָרand as they fled,וַיָּנֻסוּthe kingsמֶלֶךְof Sodomסְדֹםand Gomorrahוַעֲמֹרָהfellוַיִּפְּלוּthere,שָׁמָּהand those who were leftוְהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםfledנָּסוּto the mountains.הֶרָה
They tookוַיִּקְחוּallאֶת כָּלthe possessionsרְכֻשׁof Sodomסְדֹםand Gomorrahוַעֲמֹרָהand allוְאֶת כָּלtheir food,אָכְלָםand went away.וַיֵּלֵכוּ
They also tookוַיִּקְחוּLot,אֶת לוֹטthe sonבֶּןof Abram’sאַבְרָםbrother,אֲחִיand his possessions,וְאֶת רְכֻשׁוֹand went away;וַיֵּלֵכוּfor heוְהוּאwas livingיֹשֵׁבin Sodom.בִּסְדֹם
One who had escapedהַפָּלִיטcameוַיָּבֹאand toldוַיַּגֵּדAbramלְאַבְרָםthe Hebrew,הָעִבְרִיwhoוְהוּאwas livingשֹׁכֵןby the oaksבְּאֵלֹנֵיof Mamreמַמְרֵאthe Amorite,הָאֱמֹרִיbrotherאֲחִיof Eshcolאֶשְׁכֹּלand brotherוַאֲחִיof Aner;עָנֵרand theyוְהֵםhad a covenantבַּעֲלֵי בְרִיתwith Abram.אַבְרָם
When Abramוַ אַבְרָםheardיִּשְׁמַעthatכִּיhis brotherאָחִיוhad been taken captive,נִשְׁבָּהhe called outוַיָּרֶקhis trained men,אֶת חֲנִיכָיוbornיְלִידֵיin his house,בֵיתוֹthree hundredוּשְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹתeighteen,שְׁמֹנָה עָשָׂרand pursuedוַיִּרְדֹּףas far asעַדDan.דָּן
He divided his forcesוַיֵּחָלֵקagainst themעֲלֵיהֶםby night,לַיְלָהheהוּאand his servants,וַעֲבָדָיוand defeated themוַיַּכֵּםand pursued themוַיִּרְדְּפֵםas far asעַדHobah,חוֹבָהwhichאֲשֶׁרis northמִשְּׂמֹאלof Damascus.לְדַמָּשֶׂק
He brought backוַיָּשֶׁבallאֵת כָּלthe possessions,הָרְכֻשׁand alsoוְגַםLotאֶת לוֹטhis brotherאָחִיוand his possessionsוּרְכֻשׁוֹhe brought back,הֵשִׁיבand alsoוְגַםthe womenאֶת הַנָּשִׁיםand the people.וְאֶת הָעָם
Afterאַחֲרֵיhe returnedשׁוּבוֹfrom defeatingמֵהַכּוֹתChedorlaomerאֶת כְּדָרלָעֹמֶרand the kingsוְאֶת הַמְּלָכִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרwere with him,אִתּוֹthe kingמֶלֶךְof Sodomסְדֹםwent outוַיֵּצֵאto meet himלִקְרָאתוֹatאֶלthe Valleyעֵמֶקof Shavehשָׁוֵה(that is,הוּאthe Valleyעֵמֶקof the King).הַמֶּלֶךְ
And Melchizedekוּמַלְכִּי צֶדֶקkingמֶלֶךְof Salemשָׁלֵםbrought outהוֹצִיאbreadלֶחֶםand wine;וָיָיִןheוְהוּאwas priestכֹהֵןof El Elyon.לְאֵל עֶלְיוֹן
He blessed himוַיְבָרְכֵהוּand said,וַיֹּאמַר“Blessed beבָּרוּךְAbramאַבְרָםof El Elyon,לְאֵל עֶלְיוֹןownerקֹנֵהof the heavensשָׁמַיִםand earth;וָאָרֶץ
and blessed beוּבָרוּךְEl Elyon,אֵל עֶלְיוֹןwhoאֲשֶׁרhas deliveredמִגֵּןyour adversariesצָרֶיךָinto your hand.”בְּיָדֶךָAnd he gaveוַיִּתֶּןhimלוֹa tenthמַעֲשֵׂרof everything.מִכֹּל
The kingמֶלֶךְof Sodomסְדֹםsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Abram,אֶל אַבְרָם“Giveתֶּןmeלִיthe persons,הַנֶּפֶשׁandוְtakeקַחthe possessionsהָרְכֻשׁfor yourself.”לָךְ
But Abramוַ אַבְרָםsaidיֹּאמֶרto the kingאֶל מֶלֶךְof Sodom,סְדֹם“I have raisedהֲרִימֹתִיmy handיָדִיto YHWH,אֶל יְהוָהEl Elyon,אֵל עֶלְיוֹןownerקֹנֵהof the heavensשָׁמַיִםand earth,וָאָרֶץ
that I will not takeאִם אִם אֶקַּחa threadמִחוּטor evenוְעַדa sandal strapשְׂרוֹךְ נַעַלorוְanythingמִכָּלthatאֲשֶׁרis yours,לָךְso that you will notוְלֹאsay,תֹאמַר‘Iאֲנִיmade Abram rich.’הֶעֱשַׁרְתִּי אֶת אַבְרָם
Nothing for me;בִּלְעָדַיonlyרַקwhatאֲשֶׁרthe young menהַנְּעָרִיםhave eaten,אָכְלוּand the shareוְחֵלֶקof the menהָאֲנָשִׁיםwhoאֲשֶׁרwentהָלְכוּwith me,אִתִּיAner,עָנֵרEshcol,אֶשְׁכֹּלand Mamre:וּמַמְרֵאlet themהֵםtakeיִקְחוּtheir share.”חֶלְקָם
