Joshua 21

Thenוַthe headsרָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesאֲבוֹתof the LevitesהַלְוִיִּםapproachedיִּגְּשׁוּEleazarאֶל אֶלְעָזָרthe priest,הַכֹּהֵןand Joshuaוְאֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבִּןof Nun,נוּןand the headsוְאֶל רָאשֵׁיof the fathers’ housesאֲבוֹתof the tribesהַמַּטּוֹתof the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל

and they spokeוַיְדַבְּרוּto themאֲלֵיהֶםat Shilohבְּשִׁלֹהin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Canaan,כְּנַעַןsaying,לֵאמֹר“YHWHיְהוָהcommandedצִוָּהthroughבְיַדMosesמֹשֶׁהto giveלָתֶתusלָנוּcitiesעָרִיםto live in,לָשָׁבֶתwith their pasturelandsוּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶןfor our livestock.”לִבְהֶמְתֵּנוּ

So the sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלgaveיִּתְּנוּto the Levites,לַלְוִיִּםout of their inheritance,מִנַּחֲלָתָםaccording to the commandאֶל פִּיof YHWH,יְהוָהtheseהָאֵלֶּהcitiesהֶעָרִיםand their pasturelands.וְ מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶן

And the lotוַ הַגּוֹרָלcame outיֵּצֵאfor the familiesלְמִשְׁפְּחֹתof the Kohathites;הַקְּהָתִיand the sonsוַ לִבְנֵיof Aaronאַהֲרֹןthe priest,הַכֹּהֵןofמִןthe Levites,הַלְוִיִּםreceivedיְהִיby lotבַּגּוֹרָלthirteenשְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵהcitiesעָרִיםfrom the tribeמִמַּטֵּהof Judah,יְהוּדָהfrom the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof the Simeonites,הַשִּׁמְעֹנִיand from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Benjamin.בִנְיָמִן

And the restוְ הַנּוֹתָרִיםof the sonsלִבְנֵיof Kohathקְהָתreceivedby lotבַּגּוֹרָלtenעָשֶׂרcitiesעָרִיםfrom the familiesמִמִּשְׁפְּחֹתof the tribeמַטֵּהof Ephraim,אֶפְרַיִםfrom the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Dan,דָןand from the halfוּמֵחֲצִיtribeמַטֵּהof Manasseh.מְנַשֶּׁה

And the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Gershonגֵרְשׁוֹןreceivedby lotבַּגּוֹרָלthirteenשְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵהcitiesעָרִיםfrom the familiesמִמִּשְׁפְּחוֹתof the tribeמַטֵּהof Issachar,יִשָּׂשכָרfrom the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Asher,אָשֵׁרfrom the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Naphtali,נַפְתָּלִיand from the halfוּמֵחֲצִיtribeמַטֵּהof Manassehמְנַשֶּׁהin Bashan.בַבָּשָׁן

The sonsלִבְנֵיof Merariמְרָרִיaccording to their familiesלְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָםreceivedtwelveשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵהcitiesעָרִיםfrom the tribeמִמַּטֵּהof Reuben,רְאוּבֵןfrom the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Gad,גָדand from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Zebulun.זְבוּלֻן

And the sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלgaveיִּתְּנוּto the Levitesלַלְוִיִּםtheseהָאֵלֶּהcitiesהֶעָרִיםand their pasturelands,וְ מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶןasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהthroughבְּיַדMoses,מֹשֶׁהby lot.בַּגּוֹרָל

And from the tribeוַ מִמַּטֵּהof the sonsבְּנֵיof Judahיְהוּדָהand from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof the sonsבְּנֵיof Simeonשִׁמְעוֹןthey gaveיִּתְּנוּtheseהָאֵלֶּהcitiesהֶעָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרare mentionedיִקְרָא אֶתְהֶןby name,בְּשֵׁם

and they wentוַיְהִיto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Aaron,אַהֲרֹןof the familiesמִמִּשְׁפְּחוֹתof the Kohathites,הַקְּהָתִיof the sonsמִבְּנֵיof Levi;לֵוִיforכִּיtheirsלָהֶםwasהָיָהthe firstרִיאשֹׁנָהlot.הַגּוֹרָל

And they gaveוַיִּתְּנוּthemלָהֶםKiriath-arbaקִרְיַת אַרְבַּע(the fatherאֲבִיof Anak),הָעֲנוֹקthatהִיאisHebron,חֶבְרוֹןin the hill countryבְּהַרof Judah,יְהוּדָהwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָaround it.סְבִיבֹתֶיהָ

But the fieldוְ שְׂדֵהof the cityהָעִירand its villagesוְ חֲצֵרֶיהָthey gaveנָתְנוּto Calebלְכָלֵבsonבֶּןof Jephunnehיְפֻנֶּהas his possession.בַּאֲחֻזָּתוֹ

And to the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Aaronאַהֲרֹןthe priestהַכֹּהֵןthey gaveנָתְנוּHebron,אֶת חֶבְרוֹןthe cityעִירof refugeמִקְלַטfor the manslayer,הָרֹצֵחַwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Libnahוְ לִבְנָהwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

and Jattirוְ יַתִּרwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Eshtemoaוְ אֶשְׁתְּמֹעַwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

and Holonוְ חֹלֹןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Debirוְ דְּבִרwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

and Ainוְ עַיִןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Juttahוְ יֻטָּהwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Beth-shemeshבֵּית שֶׁמֶשׁwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—nineתֵּשַׁעcitiesעָרִיםfromמֵאֵתtheseהָאֵלֶּהtwoשְׁנֵיtribes.הַשְּׁבָטִים

And from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Benjamin:בִנְיָמִןGibeonגִּבְעוֹןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָGebaגֶּבַעwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

Anathothעֲנָתוֹתwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Almonוְ עַלְמוֹןwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcities.עָרִים

Allכָּלthe citiesעָרֵיof the sonsבְנֵיof Aaron,אַהֲרֹןthe priests,הַכֹּהֲנִיםwerethirteenשְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵהcitiesעָרִיםwith their pasturelands.וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶן

And as for the familiesוּלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Kohath,קְהָתthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםwho remainedהַנּוֹתָרִיםof the sonsמִבְּנֵיof Kohath,קְהָתthe citiesעָרֵיof their lotגוֹרָלָםwereוַיְהִיfrom the tribeמִמַּטֵּהof Ephraim.אֶפְרָיִם

And they gaveוַיִּתְּנוּthemלָהֶםShechem,אֶת שְׁכֶםthe cityעִירof refugeמִקְלַטfor the manslayer,הָרֹצֵחַwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָin the hill countryבְּהַרof Ephraim,אֶפְרָיִםand Gezerוְ גֶּזֶרwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

and Kibzaimוְ קִבְצַיִםwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Beth-horonוְ בֵּית חוֹרֹןwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcities.עָרִים

And from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Dan:דָןEltekehאֶלְתְּקֵאwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָGibbethonגִּבְּתוֹןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

Aijalonאַיָּלוֹןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָGath-rimmonגַּת רִמּוֹןwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcities.עָרִים

And from the halfוּמִמַּחֲצִיתtribeמַטֵּהof Manasseh:מְנַשֶּׁהTaanachתַּעְנַךְwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Gath-rimmonוְ גַּת רִמּוֹןwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—twoשְׁתָּיִםcities.עָרִים

Allכָּלthe citiesעָרִיםweretenעֶשֶׂרwith their pasturelandsוּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶןfor the familiesלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתof the restהַנּוֹתָרִיםof the sonsבְּנֵיof Kohath.קְהָת

And to the sonsוְלִבְנֵיof Gershon,גֵרְשׁוֹןof the familiesמִמִּשְׁפְּחֹתof the Levites,הַלְוִיִּםthey gavefrom the halfמֵחֲצִיtribeמַטֵּהof ManassehמְנַשֶּׁהGolanאֶת גּוֹלָןin Bashan,בַּבָּשָׁןthe cityעִירof refugeמִקְלַטfor the manslayer,הָרֹצֵחַwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Be-eshterahוְ בְּעֶשְׁתְּרָהwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—twoשְׁתָּיִםcities.עָרִים

And from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Issachar:יִשָּׂשכָרKishionקִשְׁיוֹןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָDaberathדָּבְרַתwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

Jarmuthיַרְמוּתwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָEn-gannimעֵין גַּנִּיםwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcities.עָרִים

And from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Asher:אָשֵׁרMishalמִשְׁאָלwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָAbdonעַבְדּוֹןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

Helkathחֶלְקָתwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Rehobוְ רְחֹבwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcities.עָרִים

And from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Naphtali:נַפְתָּלִיKedeshאֶת קֶדֶשׁin Galilee,בַּגָּלִילthe cityעִירof refugeמִקְלַטfor the manslayer,הָרֹצֵחַwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Hammoth-dorוְ חַמֹּת דֹּארwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Kartanוְ קַרְתָּןwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—threeשָׁלֹשׁcities.עָרִים

Allכָּלthe citiesעָרֵיof the Gershonitesהַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּיaccording to their familiesלְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָםwerethirteenשְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵהcitiesעִירwith their pasturelands.וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶן

And to the familiesוּלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Merari,מְרָרִיthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּםwho remained,הַנּוֹתָרִיםthey gavefromמֵאֵתthe tribeמַטֵּהof Zebulun:זְבוּלֻןJokneamיָקְנְעָםwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָKartahקַרְתָּהwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

Dimnahדִּמְנָהwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָNahalalנַהֲלָלwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcities.עָרִים

And from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Reuben:רְאוּבֵןBezerבֶּצֶרwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Jahazוְ יַהְצָהwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

Kedemothקְדֵמוֹתwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Mephaathוְ מֵיפָעַתwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcities.עָרִים

And from the tribeוּמִמַּטֵּהof Gad:גָדRamothאֶת רָמֹתin Gilead,בַּגִּלְעָדthe cityעִירof refugeמִקְלַטfor the manslayer,הָרֹצֵחַwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָand Mahanaimוְ מַחֲנַיִםwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָ

Heshbonחֶשְׁבּוֹןwithוְits pasturelands,מִגְרָשֶׁהָJazerיַעְזֵרwithוְits pasturelandsמִגְרָשֶׁהָ—fourאַרְבַּעcitiesעָרִיםin all.כָּל

Allכָּלthe citiesהֶעָרִיםfor the sonsלִבְנֵיof Merariמְרָרִיaccording to their families,לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָםthe restהַנּוֹתָרִיםof the familiesמִמִּשְׁפְּחוֹתof the Levites:הַלְוִיִּםtheir lotגּוֹרָלָםwasוַיְהִיtwelveשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵהcities.עָרִים

Allכֹּלthe citiesעָרֵיof the Levitesהַלְוִיִּםin the midstבְּתוֹךְof the possessionאֲחֻזַּתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwereforty-eightאַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁמֹנֶהcitiesעָרִיםwith their pasturelands.וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶן

Theseהָאֵלֶּהcitiesהֶעָרִיםwere,תִּהְיֶינָהeachעִירcity,עִירwith its pasturelandsוּמִגְרָשֶׁיהָaround it;סְבִיבֹתֶיהָso it wasכֵּןfor allלְכָלtheseהָאֵלֶּהcities.הֶעָרִים

So YHWHוַ יְהוָהgaveיִּתֵּןto Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵלallכָּלthe landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרhe had swornנִשְׁבַּעto giveלָתֵתto their fathers;לַאֲבוֹתָםand they took possession of itוַיִּרָשׁוּהָand livedוַיֵּשְׁבוּin it.בָהּ

And YHWHוַ יְהוָהgave restיָּנַחto themלָהֶםall around,מִסָּבִיבaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרhe had swornנִשְׁבַּעto their fathers;לַאֲבוֹתָםand notוְלֹאa manאִישׁof allמִכָּלtheir enemiesאֹיְבֵיהֶםstoodעָמַדbefore them;בִּפְנֵיהֶםallכָּלtheir enemiesאֹיְבֵיהֶםYHWHיְהוָהgaveנָתַןinto their hand.בְּיָדָם

Notלֹאa wordדָּבָרfellנָפַלof allמִכֹּלthe goodהַטּוֹבwordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad spokenדִּבֶּרtoאֶלthe houseבֵּיתof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלeverythingהַכֹּלcame.בָּא
