Theseאֵלֶּהare the statutesהַחֻקִּיםand the rulesוְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִיםthatאֲשֶׁרyou shall be carefulתִּשְׁמְרוּןto carry outלַעֲשׂוֹתin the landבָּאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof your fathers,אֲבֹתֶיךָhas givenנָתַןyouלְךָto possessלְרִשְׁתָּit,הּallכָּלthe daysהַיָּמִיםthatאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםliveחַיִּיםonעַלthe ground.הָאֲדָמָה
You shall completely wipe outאַבֵּד תְּאַבְּדוּןallאֶת כָּלthe placesהַמְּקֹמוֹתwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁםthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםthatאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםare dispossessingיֹרְשִׁים אֹתָםservedעָבְדוּtheir gods,אֶת אֱלֹהֵיהֶםonעַלthe highהָרָמִיםmountainsהֶהָרִיםand onוְעַלthe hillsהַגְּבָעוֹתand underוְתַחַתeveryכָּלleafyרַעֲנָןtree.עֵץ
You shall tear downוְנִתַּצְתֶּםtheir altars,אֶת מִזְבּחֹתָםsmashוְשִׁבַּרְתֶּםtheir standing stones,אֶת מַצֵּבֹתָםburnתִּשְׂרְפוּןtheir Asherahsוַאֲשֵׁרֵיהֶםwith fire,בָּאֵשׁcut downתְּגַדֵּעוּןthe carved imagesוּפְסִילֵיof their gods,אֱלֹהֵיהֶםand wipe outוְאִבַּדְתֶּםtheir nameאֶת שְׁמָםfromמִןthatהַהוּאplace.הַמָּקוֹם
You shall notלֹאactתַעֲשׂוּןthis wayכֵּןtoward YHWHלַיהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
Butכִּי אִםyou shall seekתִדְרְשׁוּthe placeאֶל הַמָּקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםchoosesיִבְחַרout of allמִכָּלyour tribesשִׁבְטֵיכֶםto putלָשׂוּםhis nameאֶת שְׁמוֹthereשָׁםfor his dwelling,לְשִׁכְנוֹand you shall goוּבָאתָthere.שָׁמָּה
Thereשָׁמָּהyou shall bringוַהֲבֵאתֶםyour burnt offeringsעֹלֹתֵיכֶםand your sacrifices,וְזִבְחֵיכֶםyour tithesוְאֵת מַעְשְׂרֹתֵיכֶםand the contributionוְאֵת תְּרוּמַתof your hand,יֶדְכֶםyour vowsוְנִדְרֵיכֶםand your freewill offerings,וְנִדְבֹתֵיכֶםand the firstbornוּבְכֹרֹתof your herdבְּקַרְכֶםand of your flock.וְצֹאנְכֶם
And thereוַ שָׁםyou shall eatאֲכַלְתֶּםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםand rejoiceוּשְׂמַחְתֶּםin everyבְּכֹלundertakingמִשְׁלַחof your hand,יֶדְכֶםyouאַתֶּםand your households,וּבָתֵּיכֶםin whichאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָhas blessedבֵּרַכְyou.ךָ
You shall notלֹאdoתַעֲשׂוּןaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרweאֲנַחְנוּare doingעֹשִׂיםhereפֹּהtoday,הַיּוֹםeach oneאִישׁdoingallכָּלthat isrightהַיָּשָׁרin his eyes,בְּעֵינָיו
forכִּיyou have notלֹאyetעַד עָתָּהcomeבָּאתֶםtoאֶלthe restהַמְּנוּחָהand toוְאֶלthe inheritanceהַנַּחֲלָהthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָis givingנֹתֵןyou.לָךְ
But you will crossוַעֲבַרְתֶּםthe Jordanאֶת הַיַּרְדֵּןand liveוִישַׁבְתֶּםin the landבָּאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםis causingמַנְחִילyouאֶתְכֶםto inherit,מַנְחִילand he will give restוְהֵנִיחַto youלָכֶםfrom allמִכָּלyour enemiesאֹיְבֵיכֶםaround,מִסָּבִיבand you will liveוִישַׁבְתֶּםin security.בֶּטַח
Thenוְהָיָהto the placeהַמָּקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםchoosesיִבְחַר בּוֹto makeלְשַׁכֵּןhis nameשְׁמוֹdwellשַׁכֵּןthere,שָׁםthereשָׁמָּהyou shall bringתָבִיאוּallאֵת כָּלthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam commandingמְצַוֶּהyou:אֶתְכֶםyour burnt offeringsעוֹלֹתֵיכֶםand your sacrifices,וְזִבְחֵיכֶםyour tithesמַעְשְׂרֹתֵיכֶםand the contributionוּתְרֻמַתof your hand,יֶדְכֶםand allוְכֹלthe choicestמִבְחַרof your vowsנִדְרֵיכֶםthatאֲשֶׁרyou vowתִּדְּרוּto YHWH.לַיהוָה
And you shall rejoiceוּשְׂמַחְתֶּםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵיכֶםyouאַתֶּםand your sonsוּבְנֵיכֶםand your daughters,וּבְנֹתֵיכֶםyour male slavesוְעַבְדֵיכֶםand your female slaves,וְאַמְהֹתֵיכֶםand the Leviteוְהַלֵּוִיwho isאֲשֶׁרwithinבְּyour gates,שַׁעֲרֵיכֶםforכִּיhe has noאֵין לוֹportionחֵלֶקor inheritanceוְנַחֲלָהwith you.אִתְּכֶם
Guard yourselfהִשָּׁמֶר לְךָso that you do notפֶּןofferתַּעֲלֶהyour burnt offeringsעֹלֹתֶיךָin anyבְּכָלplaceמָקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרyou see,תִּרְאֶה
butכִּי אִםin the placeבַּמָּקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהchoosesיִבְחַרin oneבְּאַחַדof your tribes,שְׁבָטֶיךָthereשָׁםyou shall offerתַּעֲלֶהyour burnt offerings,עֹלֹתֶיךָand thereוְשָׁםyou shall doתַּעֲשֶׂהallכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam commandingמְצַוֶּyou.ךָּ
However,רַקwith allבְּכָלthe desireאַוַּתof your soulנַפְשְׁךָyou may sacrificeתִּזְבַּחand eatוְאָכַלְתָּmeatבָשָׂרaccording to the blessingכְּבִרְכַּתof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָthatאֲשֶׁרhe has givenנָתַןyouלְךָwithin allבְּכָלyour gates;שְׁעָרֶיךָthe uncleanהַטָּמֵאand the cleanוְהַטָּהוֹרmay eatיֹאכְלֶit,נּוּas they eat the gazelleכַּצְּבִיand the deer.וְכָאַיָּל
Onlyרַקthe bloodהַדָּםyou shall notלֹאeat;תֹאכֵלוּyou shall pour it outתִּשְׁפְּכֶנּוּonעַלthe earthהָאָרֶץlike water.כַּמָּיִם
You may notלֹא תוּכַלeatלֶאֱכֹלwithin your gatesבִּשְׁעָרֶיךָthe titheמַעְשַׂרof your grainדְּגָנְךָor of your new wineוְתִירֹשְׁךָor of your oil,וְיִצְהָרֶךָor the firstbornוּבְכֹרֹתof your herdבְּקָרְךָor of your flock,וְצֹאנֶךָor anyוְכָלof your vowsנְדָרֶיךָthatאֲשֶׁרyou vow,תִּדֹּרor your freewill offerings,וְנִדְבֹתֶיךָor the contributionוּתְרוּמַתof your hand;יָדֶךָ
butכִּי אִםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָyou shall eatתֹּאכְלֶitנּוּin the placeבַּמָּקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָchooses,יִבְחַר בּוֹyouאַתָּהand your sonוּבִנְךָand your daughter,וּבִתֶּךָyour male slaveוְעַבְדְּךָand your female slave,וַאֲמָתֶךָand the Leviteוְהַלֵּוִיwho isאֲשֶׁרwithin your gates;בִּשְׁעָרֶיךָand you shall rejoiceוְשָׂמַחְתָּbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָin everyבְּכֹלundertakingמִשְׁלַחof your hand.יָדֶךָ
Guard yourselfהִשָּׁמֶר לְךָso that you do notפֶּןabandonתַּעֲזֹבthe Leviteאֶת הַלֵּוִיallכָּלyour daysיָמֶיךָonעַלyour land.אַדְמָתֶךָ
WhenכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָenlargesיַרְחִיבyour territoryאֶת גְּבוּלְךָasכַּאֲשֶׁרhe has spokenדִּבֶּרto you,לָךְand you say,וְאָמַרְתָּ“I will eatאֹכְלָהmeat,”בָשָׂרbecauseכִּיyour soulנַפְשְׁךָcravesתְאַוֶּהto eatלֶאֱכֹלmeat,בָּשָׂרyou may eatתֹּאכַלmeatבָּשָׂרwith allבְּכָלthe desireאַוַּתof your soul.נַפְשְׁךָ
Ifכִּיthe placeהַמָּקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָchoosesיִבְחַרto putלָשׂוּםhis nameשְׁמוֹthereשָׁםis farיִרְחַקfrom you,מִמְּךָthen you may sacrificeוְזָבַחְתָּfrom your herdמִבְּקָרְךָand from your flockוּמִצֹּאנְךָthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhas givenנָתַןyou,לְךָasכַּאֲשֶׁרI have commanded you,צִוִּיתִךָand you may eatוְאָכַלְתָּwithin your gatesבִּשְׁעָרֶיךָwith allבְּכֹלthe desireאַוַּתof your soul.נַפְשֶׁךָ
Justאַךְasכַּאֲשֶׁרthe gazelleאֶת הַצְּבִיand the deerוְאֶת הָאַיָּלis eaten,יֵאָכֵלsoכֵּןyou shall eat it;תֹּאכְלֶנּוּthe uncleanהַטָּמֵאand the cleanוְהַטָּהוֹרalikeיַחְדָּוmay eat it.יֹאכְלֶנּוּ
Onlyרַקbe firmחֲזַקnotלְבִלְתִּיto eatאֲכֹלthe blood,הַדָּםforכִּיthe bloodהַדָּםisהוּאthe life,הַנָּפֶשׁand you shall notוְלֹאeatתֹאכַלthe lifeהַנֶּפֶשׁwithעִםthe meat.הַבָּשָׂר
You shall notלֹאeat it;תֹּאכְלֶנּוּyou shall pour it outתִּשְׁפְּכֶנּוּonעַלthe earthהָאָרֶץlike water.כַּמָּיִם
You shall notלֹאeat it,תֹּאכְלֶנּוּso thatלְמַעַןit may go wellיִיטַבwith youלְךָand with your sonsוּלְבָנֶיךָafter you,אַחֲרֶיךָbecauseכִּיyou will doתַעֲשֶׂהwhat is rightהַיָּשָׁרin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH.יְהוָה
Onlyרַקyour holy thingsקָדָשֶׁיךָthatאֲשֶׁרyou haveיִהְיוּ לְךָand your vowsוּנְדָרֶיךָyou shall take upתִּשָּׂאand goוּבָאתָtoאֶלthe placeהַמָּקוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהchooses,יִבְחַר
and you shall offerוְעָשִׂיתָyour burnt offerings,עֹלֹתֶיךָthe meatהַבָּשָׂרand the blood,וְהַדָּםonעַלthe altarמִזְבַּחof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim;אֱלֹהֶיךָand the bloodוְדַםof your sacrificesזְבָחֶיךָshall be poured outיִשָּׁפֵךְonעַלthe altarמִזְבַּחof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֶיךָbut the meatוְהַבָּשָׂרyou may eat.תֹּאכֵל
Keepשְׁמֹרand listen toוְשָׁמַעְתָּ אֵתallכָּלthese wordsהַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּהthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam commanding you,מְצַוֶּךָּso thatלְמַעַןit may go wellיִיטַבwith youלְךָand with your sonsוּלְבָנֶיךָafter youאַחֲרֶיךָforever,עַד עוֹלָםbecauseכִּיyou will doתַעֲשֶׂהwhat is goodהַטּוֹבand rightוְהַיָּשָׁרin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֶיךָ
WhenכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָcuts offיַכְרִיתthe nationsאֶת הַגּוֹיִםthatאֲשֶׁרyouאַתָּהare going inבָאthereשָׁמָּהto dispossessלָרֶשֶׁתfrom before you,מִפָּנֶיךָand you dispossessוְיָרַשְׁתָּthemאֹתָםand liveוְיָשַׁבְתָּin their land,בְּאַרְצָם
guard yourselfהִשָּׁמֶר לְךָso that you are notפֶּןsnaredתִּנָּקֵשׁinto followingאַחֲרֵיthemהֶםafterאַחֲרֵיthey have been destroyedהִשָּׁמְדָםbefore you,מִפָּנֶיךָand so that you do notוּפֶןseekתִּדְרֹשׁtheir gods,לֵאלֹהֵיהֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר“Howאֵיכָהdid theseהָאֵלֶּהnationsהַגּוֹיִםserveיַעַבְדוּtheir gods?אֶת אֱלֹהֵיהֶםI alsoגַּם אָנִיwill doוְאֶעֱשֶׂהlikewise.”כֵּן
You shall notלֹאactתַעֲשֶׂהthis wayכֵןtoward YHWHלַיהוָהyour Elohim,אֱלֹהֶיךָforכִּיeveryכָּלabominationתּוֹעֲבַתto YHWH,יְהוָהwhichאֲשֶׁרhe hates,שָׂנֵאthey have doneעָשׂוּfor their gods;לֵאלֹהֵיהֶםforכִּיthey evenגַםburnיִשְׂרְפוּtheir sonsאֶת בְּנֵיהֶםand their daughtersוְאֶת בְּנֹתֵיהֶםin the fireבָאֵשׁto their gods.לֵאלֹהֵיהֶם
Everyאֵת כָּלwordהַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam commandingמְצַוֶּהyou,אֶתְכֶםyou shall be carefulתִשְׁמְרוּto carry it out;אֹתוֹ לַעֲשׂוֹתyou shall notלֹאaddתֹסֵףto itעָלָיוand you shall not take awayוְלֹא תִגְרַעfrom it.מִמֶּנּוּ
