AndוַYHWHיְהוָהspokeיְדַבֵּרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Go,לֵךְgo upעֲלֵהfrom here,מִזֶּהyouאַתָּהand the peopleוְהָעָםwhomאֲשֶׁרyou brought upהֶעֱלִיתָout of the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרָיִםto the landאֶל הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI sworeנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיto Abraham,לְאַבְרָהָםto Isaac,לְיִצְחָקand to Jacob,וּלְיַעֲקֹבsaying,לֵאמֹר‘To your offspringלְזַרְעֲךָI will give it.’אֶתְּנֶנָּה
And I will sendוְשָׁלַחְתִּיbefore youלְפָנֶיךָan angel,מַלְאָךְand I will drive outוְגֵרַשְׁתִּיthe Canaanite,אֶת הַכְּנַעֲנִיthe Amorite,הָאֱמֹרִיand the Hittite,וְהַחִתִּיand the Perizzite,וְהַפְּרִזִּיthe Hivite,הַחִוִּיand the Jebusite.וְהַיְבוּסִי
Go up to a landאֶל אֶרֶץflowingזָבַתwith milkחָלָבand honey;וּדְבָשׁbutכִּיI will notלֹאgo upאֶעֱלֶהin your midst,בְּקִרְבְּךָforכִּיyouאַתָּהare a stubbornקְשֵׁה עֹרֶףpeople,עַםlestפֶּןI consume youאֲכֶלְךָon the way.”בַּדָּרֶךְ
When the peopleוַ הָעָםheardיִּשְׁמַעthisהַזֶּהbadהָרָעnews,אֶת הַדָּבָרthey mourned,וַיִּתְאַבָּלוּand noוְלֹאoneאִישׁput onשָׁתוּhis ornaments.עֶדְיוֹ עָלָיו
AndוַYHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Sayאֱמֹרto the sonsאֶל בְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל‘Youאַתֶּםare a stubbornקְשֵׁה עֹרֶףpeople.עַםIf for oneאֶחָדmomentרֶגַעI went upאֶעֱלֶהin your midst,בְקִרְבְּךָI would consume you.וְכִלִּיתִיךָSo now,וְעַתָּהtake offהוֹרֵדyour ornamentsעֶדְיְךָfrom you,מֵעָלֶיךָand I will knowוְאֵדְעָהwhatמָהI will doאֶעֱשֶׂהwith you.’”לָּךְ
So the sonsוַ בְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלstripped themselvesיִּתְנַצְּלוּof their ornamentsאֶת עֶדְיָםfrom MountמֵהַרHoreb on.חוֹרֵב
And Mosesוּמֹשֶׁהused to takeיִקַּחthe tentאֶת הָאֹהֶלand pitchוְנָטָהitלוֹoutsideמִחוּץthe camp,לַמַּחֲנֶהfar offהַרְחֵקfrom the camp,מִן הַמַּחֲנֶהand he calledוְקָרָאitלוֹthe tentאֹהֶלof meeting.מוֹעֵדAnd everyoneוְהָיָה כָּלwho soughtמְבַקֵּשׁYHWHיְהוָהwould go outיֵצֵאto the tentאֶל אֹהֶלof meeting,מוֹעֵדwhich wasאֲשֶׁרoutsideמִחוּץthe camp.לַמַּחֲנֶה
And wheneverוְהָיָה כְּMosesמֹשֶׁהwent outצֵאתto the tent,אֶל הָאֹהֶלallכָּלthe peopleהָעָםwould riseיָקוּמוּand stand,וְנִצְּבוּeach manאִישׁat the entranceפֶּתַחof his tent,אָהֳלוֹand watchוְהִבִּיטוּafter Mosesאַחֲרֵי מֹשֶׁהuntilעַדhe wentבֹּאוֹinto the tent.הָאֹהֱלָה
And wheneverוְהָיָה כְּMosesמֹשֶׁהenteredבֹאthe tent,הָאֹהֱלָהthe pillarעַמּוּדof cloudהֶעָנָןwould descendיֵרֵדand standוְעָמַדat the entranceפֶּתַחof the tent,הָאֹהֶלand he would speakוְדִבֶּרwith Moses.עִם מֹשֶׁה
And allוְ כָלthe peopleהָעָםwould seeרָאָהthe pillarאֶת עַמּוּדof cloudהֶעָנָןstandingעֹמֵדat the entranceפֶּתַחof the tent,הָאֹהֶלand allוְ כָּלthe peopleהָעָםwould riseקָםand bow down,וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוּוּeach manאִישׁat the entranceפֶּתַחof his tent.אָהֳלוֹ
And YHWHוְ יְהוָהwould speakדִבֶּרto Mosesאֶל מֹשֶׁהfaceפָּנִיםto face,אֶל פָּנִיםasכַּאֲשֶׁרa manאִישׁspeaksיְדַבֵּרto his companion.אֶל רֵעֵהוּThen he would returnוְשָׁבto the camp,אֶל הַמַּחֲנֶהbut his assistantוּמְשָׁרְתוֹJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבִּןof Nun,נוּןa young man,נַעַרwould notלֹאdepartיָמִישׁfrom insideמִתּוֹךְthe tent.הָאֹהֶל
AndוַMosesמֹשֶׁהsaidיֹּאמֶרto YHWH,אֶל יְהוָה“See,רְאֵהyouאַתָּהsayאֹמֵרto me,אֵלַי‘Bring upהַעַלthisהַזֶּהpeople,’אֶת הָעָםbut youוְאַתָּהhave notלֹאlet me knowהוֹדַעְתַּנִיwhomאֵת אֲשֶׁרyou will sendתִּשְׁלַחwith me.עִמִּיYet youוְאַתָּהhave said,אָמַרְתָּ‘I know youיְדַעְתִּיךָby name,בְשֵׁםand alsoוְגַםyou have foundמָצָאתָfavorחֵןin my eyes.’בְּעֵינָי
Nowוְעַתָּהif,אִםplease,נָאI have foundמָצָאתִיfavorחֵןin your eyes,בְּעֵינֶיךָlet me know,הוֹדִעֵנִיplease,נָאyour ways,אֶת דְּרָכֶךָso that I may know you,וְאֵדָעֲךָin order thatלְמַעַןI may findאֶמְצָאfavorחֵןin your eyes.בְּעֵינֶיךָAnd seeוּרְאֵהthatכִּיthisהַזֶּהnationהַגּוֹיis your people.”עַמְּךָ
And he said,וַיֹּאמַר“My presenceפָּנַיwill go with you,יֵלֵכוּand I will give restוַהֲנִחֹתִיto you.”לָךְ
And he saidוַיֹּאמֶרto him,אֵלָיו“Ifאִםyour presenceפָּנֶיךָdoes notאֵיןgo with us,הֹלְכִיםdo notאַלbring us upתַּעֲלֵנוּfrom here.מִזֶּה
For howוּבַמֶּהthenאֵפוֹאshall it be knownיִוָּדַעthatכִּיI have foundמָצָאתִיfavorחֵןin your eyes,בְּעֵינֶיךָIאֲנִיand your people?וְעַמֶּךָIs it notהֲלוֹאin your goingבְּלֶכְתְּךָwith us,עִמָּנוּso that we are distinguished,וְנִפְלֵינוּIאֲנִיand your people,וְעַמְּךָfrom allמִכָּלthe peopleהָעָםthat areאֲשֶׁרon the faceעַל פְּנֵיof the ground?”הָאֲדָמָה
AndוַYHWHיְהוָהsaidיֹּאמֶרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Alsoגַּםthisהַזֶּהthingאֶת הַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרyou have spokenדִּבַּרְתָּI will do,אֶעֱשֶׂהforכִּיyou have foundמָצָאתָfavorחֵןin my eyes,בְּעֵינַיand I know youוָאֵדָעֲךָby name.”בְּשֵׁם
And he said,וַיֹּאמַר“Show me,הַרְאֵנִיplease,נָאyour glory.”אֶת כְּבֹדֶךָ
And he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Iאֲנִיwill makeאַעֲבִירallכָּלmy goodnessטוּבִיpassאַעֲבִירbefore you,עַל פָּנֶיךָand I will proclaimוְקָרָאתִיthe nameבְשֵׁםof YHWHיְהוָהbefore you;לְפָנֶיךָand I will favorוְחַנֹּתִיwhomאֶת אֲשֶׁרI favor,אָחֹןand I will have mercyוְרִחַמְתִּיon whomאֶת אֲשֶׁרI have mercy.”אֲרַחֵם
And he said,וַיֹּאמֶר“You cannotלֹא תוּכַלseeלִרְאֹתmy face,אֶת פָּנָיforכִּיnoלֹאhuman beingהָאָדָםcan seeיִרְאַmeנִיand live.”וָחָי
AndוַYHWHיְהוָהsaid,יֹּאמֶר“Look,הִנֵּהthere is a placeמָקוֹםby me,אִתִּיand you shall standוְנִצַּבְתָּon the rock.עַל הַצּוּר
And it will be,וְהָיָהwhen my gloryבַּ כְּבֹדִיpasses by,עֲבֹרthat I will putוְשַׂמְתִּיyouךָin a cleftבְּנִקְרַתof the rockהַצּוּרand coverוְשַׂכֹּתִיyouעָלֶיךָwith my handכַפִּיuntilעַדI have passed by.עָבְרִי
Then I will take awayוַהֲסִרֹתִיmy hand,אֶת כַּפִּיand you will seeוְרָאִיתָmy back;אֶת אֲחֹרָיbut my faceוּפָנַיshall notלֹאbe seen.”יֵרָאוּ
