“Woeהוֹיto the shepherdsרֹעִיםwho destroyמְאַבְּדִיםand scatterוּמְפִצִיםthe sheepאֶת צֹאןof my pasture!מַרְעִיתִיdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
Therefore,לָכֵןthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלconcerning the shepherdsעַל הָרֹעִיםwho shepherdהָרֹעִיםmy people:אֶת עַמִּיYouאַתֶּםhave scatteredהֲפִצֹתֶםmy sheepאֶת צֹאנִיand driven them away,וַתַּדִּחוּםand you have notוְלֹאvisitedפְקַדְתֶּםthem;אֹתָםlook, Iהִנְנִיam visitingפֹקֵדupon youעֲלֵיכֶםthe evilאֶת רֹעַof your deeds,מַעַלְלֵיכֶםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
And Iוַאֲנִיwill gatherאֲקַבֵּץthe remnantאֶת שְׁאֵרִיתof my sheepצֹאנִיout of allמִכֹּלthe landsהָאֲרָצוֹתwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁםI have drivenהִדַּחְתִּיthem,אֹתָםand I will bringוַהֲשִׁבֹתִיthemאֶתְהֶןback toעַלtheir abode,נְוֵהֶןand they will be fruitfulוּפָרוּand multiply.וְרָבוּ
And I will raise upוַהֲקִמֹתִיover themעֲלֵיהֶםshepherds,רֹעִיםand they will shepherd them,וְרָעוּםand they will noוְלֹאlongerעוֹדfear,יִירְאוּnorוְלֹאbe dismayed,יֵחַתּוּnorוְלֹאwill any be missing,יִפָּקֵדוּdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
Look,הִנֵּהdaysיָמִיםare coming,בָּאִיםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהwhen I will raise upוַהֲקִמֹתִיfor Davidלְדָוִדa righteousצַדִּיקsprout,צֶמַחand he will reignוּמָלַךְas kingמֶלֶךְand act wiselyוְהִשְׂכִּילand doוְעָשָׂהjusticeמִשְׁפָּטand righteousnessוּצְדָקָהin the land.בָּאָרֶץ
In his daysבְּיָמָיוJudahיְהוּדָהwill be saved,תִּוָּשַׁעand Israelוְיִשְׂרָאֵלwill dwellיִשְׁכֹּןsecurely;לָבֶטַחand this isוְזֶהhis nameשְּׁמוֹby whichאֲשֶׁרthey will call him:יִקְרְאוֹ“YHWH,יְהוָהour righteousness.”צִדְקֵנוּ
Therefore,לָכֵןlook,הִנֵּהdaysיָמִיםare coming,בָּאִיםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהwhen they will noוְלֹאlongerעוֹדsay,יֹאמְרוּ‘As YHWHיְהוָהlives,חַיwhoאֲשֶׁרbrought upהֶעֱלָהthe childrenאֶת בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלout of the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt,’מִצְרָיִם
butכִּי אִם‘As YHWHיְהוָהlives,חַיwhoאֲשֶׁרbrought upהֶעֱלָהand whoוַאֲשֶׁרbroughtהֵבִיאthe offspringאֶת זֶרַעof the houseבֵּיתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלout of the landמֵאֶרֶץof the northצָפוֹנָהand out of allוּמִכֹּלthe landsהָאֲרָצוֹתwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁםI had driven them’;הִדַּחְתִּיםand they will dwellוְיָשְׁבוּon their own ground.”עַל אַדְמָתָם
Concerning the prophets:לַנְּבִאִיםMy heartלִבִּיis brokenנִשְׁבַּרwithin me;בְקִרְבִּיallכָּלmy bonesעַצְמוֹתַיtremble;רָחֲפוּI have becomeהָיִיתִיlike a drunkenכְּ שִׁכּוֹרman,אִישׁand like a manוּכְגֶבֶרwhom wineיָיִןhas overcome,עֲבָרוֹbecause ofמִפְּנֵיYHWHיְהוָהand because ofוּמִפְּנֵיhis holyקָדְשׁוֹwords.דִּבְרֵי
Forכִּיthe landהָאָרֶץis fullמָלְאָהof adulterers;מְנָאֲפִיםforכִּיbecause ofמִפְּנֵיthe curseאָלָהthe landהָאָרֶץmourns;אָבְלָהthe pasturesנְאוֹתof the wildernessמִדְבָּרhave dried up;יָבְשׁוּand their courseוַ מְרוּצָתָםisתְּהִיevil,רָעָהand their mightוּגְבוּרָתָםis notלֹאright.כֵן
“Forכִּיbothגַםprophetנָבִיאandגַםpriestכֹּהֵןare godless;חָנֵפוּevenגַּםin my houseבְּבֵיתִיI have foundמָצָאתִיtheir evil,רָעָתָםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
Thereforeלָכֵןtheir wayדַרְכָּםwill beיִהְיֶהto themלָהֶםlike slippery placesכַּחֲלַקְלַקּוֹתin the darkness;בָּאֲפֵלָהthey will be driven onיִדַּחוּand fallוְנָפְלוּin it;בָהּforכִּיI will bringאָבִיאevilרָעָהupon them,עֲלֵיהֶםthe yearשְׁנַתof their punishment,פְּקֻדָּתָםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
And in the prophetsוּבִנְבִיאֵיof SamariaשֹׁמְרוֹןI sawרָאִיתִיfolly:תִפְלָהthey prophesiedהִנַּבְּאוּby Baalבַבַּעַלand led astrayוַיַּתְעוּmy peopleאֶת עַמִּיIsrael.אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל
And in the prophetsוּבִנְבִאֵיof JerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםI have seenרָאִיתִיa horrible thing:שַׁעֲרוּרָהcommitting adulteryנָאוֹףand walkingוְהָלֹךְin falsehood;בַּשֶּׁקֶרand they strengthenוְחִזְּקוּthe handsיְדֵיof evildoers,מְרֵעִיםso that noלְבִלְתִּיoneאִישׁturns backשָׁבוּfrom his evil;מֵרָעָתוֹthey have becomeהָיוּto me,לִיall of them,כֻלָּםlike Sodom,כִּסְדֹםand its inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֶיהָlike Gomorrah.כַּעֲמֹרָה
Therefore,לָכֵןthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaotצְבָאוֹתconcerning the prophets:עַל הַנְּבִאִיםLook, Iהִנְנִיam feedingמַאֲכִילthemאוֹתָםwormwood,לַעֲנָהand I will give them to drinkוְהִשְׁקִתִיםwaterמֵיof poison;רֹאשׁforכִּיfromמֵאֵתthe prophetsנְבִיאֵיof Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםgodlessnessחֲנֻפָּהhas gone outיָצְאָהinto allלְכָלthe land.”הָאָרֶץ
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹת“Do notאַלlistenתִּשְׁמְעוּto the wordsעַל דִּבְרֵיof the prophetsהַנְּבִאִיםwho prophesyהַנִּבְּאִיםto you;לָכֶםtheyהֵמָּהare filling you with vapor;מַהְבִּלִים אֶתְכֶםa visionחֲזוֹןof their own heartלִבָּםthey speak,יְדַבֵּרוּnotלֹאfrom the mouthמִפִּיof YHWH.יְהוָה
They keep sayingאֹמְרִים אָמוֹרto those who despise me,לִמְנַאֲצַי‘YHWHיְהוָהhas spoken:דִּבֶּרYou will haveיִהְיֶה לָכֶםpeace’;שָׁלוֹםand to everyoneוְכֹלwho walksהֹלֵךְin the stubbornnessבִּשְׁרִרוּתof his heartלִבּוֹthey have said,אָמְרוּ‘Noלֹאevilרָעָהwill comeתָבוֹאupon you.’עֲלֵיכֶם
Forכִּיwhoמִיhas stoodעָמַדin the councilבְּסוֹדof YHWHיְהוָהand has seenוְיֵרֶאand heardוְיִשְׁמַעhis word?אֶת דְּבָרוֹWhoמִיhas paid attention toהִקְשִׁיבhis wordדְּבָרוֹand heard it?וַיִּשְׁמָע
Look,הִנֵּהthe stormסַעֲרַתof YHWH,יְהוָהfury,חֵמָהhas gone out,יָצְאָהand a whirlingמִתְחוֹלֵלtempest;וְסַעַרon the headעַל רֹאשׁof the wickedרְשָׁעִיםit will whirl.יָחוּל
The angerאַףof YHWHיְהוָהwill notלֹאturn backיָשׁוּבuntilעַדhe has doneעֲשֹׂתוֹand untilוְעַדhe has carried outהֲקִימוֹthe purposesמְזִמּוֹתof his heart;לִבּוֹin the lastבְּאַחֲרִיתdaysהַיָּמִיםyou will understandתִּתְבּוֹנְנוּitבָהּwith understanding.בִּינָה
I did notלֹאsendשָׁלַחְתִּיthe prophets,אֶת הַנְּבִאִיםyet theyוְהֵםran;רָצוּI did notלֹאspeakדִבַּרְתִּיto them,אֲלֵיהֶםyet theyוְהֵםprophesied.נִבָּאוּ
But ifוְאִםthey had stoodעָמְדוּin my council,בְּסוֹדִיthen they would have madeוְmy peopleאֶת עַמִּיhearיַשְׁמִעוּmy words,דְבָרַיand they would have turned them backוִישִׁבוּםfrom their evil wayמִדַּרְכָּם הָרָעand from the evilוּמֵרֹעַof their deeds.מַעַלְלֵיהֶם
Am Iהַ אָנִיan Elohimאֱלֹהֵיnear at hand,מִקָּרֹבdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand notוְלֹאan Elohimאֱלֹהֵיfar off?מֵרָחֹק
Canאִםanyoneאִישׁhide himselfיִסָּתֵרin secret placesבַּמִּסְתָּרִיםso that Iוַאֲנִיdo notלֹאsee him?אֶרְאֶנּוּdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָהDo I notהֲלוֹא אֲנִיfillמָלֵאthe heavensאֶת הַשָּׁמַיִםand the earth?וְאֶת הָאָרֶץdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
I have heardשָׁמַעְתִּיwhatאֵת אֲשֶׁרthe prophetsהַנְּבִאִיםhave saidאָמְרוּwho prophesyהַנִּבְּאִיםfalsehoodשֶׁקֶרin my name,בִּשְׁמִיsaying,לֵאמֹר‘I have dreamed,חָלַמְתִּיI have dreamed!’חָלָמְתִּי
How long?עַד מָתַיIs itהֲיֵשׁin the heartבְּלֵבof the prophetsהַנְּבִאִיםwho prophesyנִבְּאֵיfalsehood,הַשָּׁקֶרand prophetsוּנְבִיאֵיof the deceitתַּרְמִתof their own heart,לִבָּם
who intendהַחֹשְׁבִיםto makeלְmy peopleאֶת עַמִּיforgetהַשְׁכִּיחַmy nameשְׁמִיby their dreamsבַּחֲלוֹמֹתָםthatאֲשֶׁרthey tellיְסַפְּרוּeachאִישׁto his neighbor,לְרֵעֵהוּjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרtheir fathersאֲבוֹתָםforgotשָׁכְחוּmy nameאֶת שְׁמִיfor Baal?בַּבָּעַל
The prophetהַנָּבִיאwhoאֲשֶׁרhasאִתּוֹa dream,חֲלוֹםlet him tellיְסַפֵּרthe dream;חֲלוֹםand he whoוַאֲשֶׁרhasאִתּוֹmy word,דְּבָרִיlet him speakיְדַבֵּרmy wordדְּבָרִיfaithfully.אֱמֶתWhat hasמַהthe strawלַתֶּבֶןto do with the grain?אֶת הַבָּרdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
Is notהֲלוֹאmy wordדְבָרִיthus,כֹהlike fire,כָּאֵשׁdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand like a hammerוּכְפַטִּישׁthat shattersיְפֹצֵץrock?סָלַע
Therefore,לָכֵןlook, I amהִנְנִיagainst the prophets,עַל הַנְּבִאִיםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהwho stealמְגַנְּבֵיmy wordsדְבָרַיeachאִישׁfromמֵאֵתhis neighbor.רֵעֵהוּ
Look, I amהִנְנִיagainst the prophets,עַל הַנְּבִיאִםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהwho takeהַלֹּקְחִיםtheir tonguesלְשׁוֹנָםand declare,וַיִּנְאֲמוּ‘He declares.’נְאֻם
Look, I amהִנְנִיagainst those who prophesyעַל נִבְּאֵיdreamsחֲלֹמוֹתof falsehood,שֶׁקֶרdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהand tell themוַיְסַפְּרוּםand lead astrayוַיַּתְעוּmy peopleאֶת עַמִּיby their falsehoodsבְּשִׁקְרֵיהֶםand by their recklessness;וּבְפַחֲזוּתָםand Iוְאָנֹכִיdid notלֹאsend themשְׁלַחְתִּיםand did notוְלֹאcommand them,צִוִּיתִיםand they do not profitוְ לֹא יוֹעִילוּthis peopleלָעָם הַזֶּהat all,הוֹעֵילdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.יְהוָה
And whenוְכִיthis peopleהָעָם הַזֶּהasks you,יִשְׁאָלְךָorאוֹthe prophetהַנָּבִיאorאוֹa priest,כֹהֵןsaying,לֵאמֹר‘What isמַהthe burdenמַשָּׂאof YHWH?’יְהוָהthen you shall sayוְאָמַרְתָּto them,אֲלֵיהֶם‘Whatאֶת מַהburden?מַשָּׂאI will abandonוְנָטַשְׁתִּיyou,אֶתְכֶםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH.’יְהוָה
And the prophet,וְהַנָּבִיאand the priest,וְהַכֹּהֵןand the peopleוְהָעָםwhoאֲשֶׁרsays,יֹאמַר‘The burdenמַשָּׂאof YHWH,’יְהוָהI will punishוּפָקַדְתִּיthat manעַל הָאִישׁ הַהוּאand his house.וְעַל בֵּיתוֹ
Thusכֹּהyou shall say,תֹאמְרוּeachאִישׁto his neighborעַל רֵעֵהוּand eachוְאִישׁto his brother:אֶל אָחִיו‘Whatמֶהhas YHWHיְהוָהanswered?’עָנָהand ‘Whatוּמַהhas YHWHיְהוָהspoken?’דִּבֶּר
But ‘the burdenוּמַשָּׂאof YHWH’יְהוָהyou shall notלֹאmentionתִזְכְּרוּagain,עוֹדforכִּיthe burdenהַמַּשָּׂאwill beיִהְיֶהto each manלְאִישׁhis own word;דְּבָרוֹand you have overturnedוַהֲפַכְתֶּםthe wordsאֶת דִּבְרֵיof the livingחַיִּיםElohim,אֱלֹהִיםof YHWHיְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתour Elohim.אֱלֹהֵינוּ
Thusכֹּהyou shall sayתֹאמַרto the prophet,אֶל הַנָּבִיא‘Whatמֶהhas YHWHיְהוָהanswered you?’עָנָךְand ‘Whatוּמַהhas YHWHיְהוָהspoken?’דִּבֶּר
But ifוְאִם‘the burdenמַשָּׂאof YHWH’יְהוָהyou say,תֹּאמֵרוּthereforeלָכֵןthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהBecauseיַעַןyou have saidאֲמָרְכֶםthis word,אֶת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה‘The burdenמַשָּׂאof YHWH,’יְהוָהwhen I sentוָאֶשְׁלַחto you,אֲלֵיכֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘You shall notלֹאsay,תֹאמְרוּ“The burdenמַשָּׂאof YHWH,”’יְהוָה
therefore,לָכֵןlook, Iהִנְנִיwill utterlyנָשֹׁאforgetוְנָשִׁיתִיyou,אֶתְכֶםand I will abandonוְנָטַשְׁתִּיyou,אֶתְכֶםand the cityוְאֶת הָעִירthatאֲשֶׁרI gaveנָתַתִּיto youלָכֶםand to your fathers,וְלַאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםcasting you out ofמֵעַלmy presence.פָּנָי
And I will bringוְנָתַתִּיupon youעֲלֵיכֶםeternalעוֹלָםreproachחֶרְפַּתand eternalעוֹלָםignominyוּכְלִמּוּתwhichאֲשֶׁרwill notלֹאbe forgotten.”תִשָּׁכֵחַ
