and toוְאֶלthe kingsהַמְּלָכִיםwho wereאֲשֶׁרin the north,מִצְּפוֹןin the hill country,בָּהָרin the Arabahוּבָעֲרָבָהsouthנֶגֶבof Chinneroth,כִּנֲרוֹתin the Shephelah,וּבַשְּׁפֵלָהand in the heightsוּבְנָפוֹתof Dorדּוֹרon the west,מִיָּם
the Canaaniteהַכְּנַעֲנִיin the eastמִמִּזְרָחand in the west,וּמִיָּםthe Amorite,וְהָאֱמֹרִיthe Hittite,וְהַחִתִּיthe Perizzite,וְהַפְּרִזִּיand the Jebusiteוְהַיְבוּסִיin the hill country,בָּהָרand the HiviteוְהַחִוִּיbelowתַּחַתHermonחֶרְמוֹןin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Mizpah.הַמִּצְפָּה
They came out,וַיֵּצְאוּtheyהֵםand allוְכָלtheir campsמַחֲנֵיהֶםwith them,עִמָּםa peopleעַםas manyרָבas the sandכַּחוֹלthat isאֲשֶׁרonעַלthe shoreשְׂפַתof the sea,הַיָּםin multitude,לָרֹבand horsesוְסוּסand chariots,וָרֶכֶבveryמְאֹדmany.רַב
Allכֹּלtheseהָאֵלֶּהkingsהַמְּלָכִיםmet by appointmentוַיִּוָּעֲדוּand cameוַיָּבֹאוּand campedוַיַּחֲנוּtogetherיַחְדָּוatאֶלthe watersמֵיof Meromמֵרוֹםto fightלְהִלָּחֵםwithעִםIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵל
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלJoshua,יְהוֹשֻׁעַ“Do notאַלfearתִּירָאthem,מִפְּנֵיהֶםforכִּיtomorrowמָחָרat thisכָּ הַזֹּאתtimeעֵתIאָנֹכִיwill giveנֹתֵןall of themאֶת כֻּלָּםslainחֲלָלִיםbeforeלִפְנֵיIsrael.יִשְׂרָאֵלTheir horsesאֶת סוּסֵיהֶםyou shall hamstringתְּעַקֵּרand their chariotsוְאֶת מַרְכְּבֹתֵיהֶםyou shall burnתִּשְׂרֹףwith fire.”בָּאֵשׁ
So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַcame,וַיָּבֹאand allוְכָלthe peopleעַםof warהַמִּלְחָמָהwith him,עִמּוֹagainst themעֲלֵיהֶםbyעַלthe watersמֵיof Meromמֵרוֹםsuddenly,פִּתְאֹםand they fellוַיִּפְּלוּon them.בָּהֶם
And YHWHיְהוָהgave themוַיִּתְּנֵםinto the handבְּיַדof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלand they struck themוַיַּכּוּםand pursued themוַיִּרְדְּפוּםas far asעַדGreatרַבָּהSidonצִידוֹןand as far asוְעַדMisrephoth-maim,מִשְׂרְפוֹת מַיִםand as far asוְעַדthe valleyבִּקְעַתof Mizpahמִצְפֶּהto the east;מִזְרָחָהand they struck themוַיַּכֻּםuntilעַדthey had leftהִשְׁאִירthemלָהֶםnoבִּלְתִּיsurvivor.שָׂרִיד
Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַdidוַיַּעַשׂto themלָהֶםasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad told him:אָמַר לוֹtheir horsesאֶת סוּסֵיהֶםhe hamstrung,עִקֵּרand their chariotsוְאֶת מַרְכְּבֹתֵיהֶםhe burnedשָׂרַףwith fire.בָּאֵשׁ
Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַturned backוַיָּשָׁבat thatבָּ הַהִיאtimeעֵתand tookוַיִּלְכֹּדHazor,אֶת חָצוֹרand its kingוְאֶת מַלְכָּהּhe struckהִכָּהwith the sword;בֶחָרֶבforכִּיHazorחָצוֹרformerlyלְפָנִיםwasהִיאthe headרֹאשׁof allכָּלtheseהָאֵלֶּהkingdoms.הַמַּמְלָכוֹת
They struckוַיַּכּוּeveryאֶת כָּלpersonהַנֶּפֶשׁwhoאֲשֶׁרwas in itבָּהּwith the edgeלְפִיof the sword,חֶרֶבdevoting them to destruction;הַחֲרֵםthere was notלֹאleftנוֹתַרanythingכָּלthat breathed;נְשָׁמָהand Hazorוְאֶת חָצוֹרhe burnedשָׂרַףwith fire.בָּאֵשׁ
And allוְאֶת כָּלthe citiesעָרֵיof theseהָאֵלֶּהkingsהַמְּלָכִיםand allוְאֶת כָּלtheir kingsמַלְכֵיהֶםJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַtook,לָכַדand he struck themוַיַּכֵּםwith the edgeלְפִיof the sword;חֶרֶבhe devoted them to destruction,הֶחֱרִים אוֹתָםjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהthe servantעֶבֶדof YHWHיְהוָהhad commanded.צִוָּה
Only,רַקallכָּלthe citiesהֶעָרִיםthat stoodהָעֹמְדוֹתonעַלtheir mounds,תִּלָּםIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלdid notלֹאburn them,שְׂרָפָםexceptזוּלָתִיHazorאֶת חָצוֹרalone;לְבַדָּהּthat Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַburned.שָׂרַף
And allוְכֹלthe spoilשְׁלַלof theseהָאֵלֶּהcitiesהֶעָרִיםand the livestockוְהַבְּהֵמָהthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלplunderedבָּזְזוּfor themselves;לָהֶםonlyרַקallאֶת כָּלthe human beingsהָאָדָםthey struckהִכּוּwith the edgeלְפִיof the swordחֶרֶבuntilעַדthey had destroyedהִשְׁמִדָםthem;אוֹתָםthey did notלֹאleaveהִשְׁאִירוּanythingכָּלthat breathed.נְשָׁמָה
Just asכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהMosesאֶת מֹשֶׁהhis servant,עַבְדּוֹsoכֵּןMosesמֹשֶׁהcommandedצִוָּהJoshua,אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַand soוְכֵןJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַdid;עָשָׂהhe did notלֹאremoveהֵסִירa wordדָּבָרof allמִכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהMoses.אֶת מֹשֶׁה
So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַtookוַיִּקַּחallאֶת כָּלthisהַזֹּאתland:הָאָרֶץthe hill country,הָהָרallוְאֶת כָּלthe Negev,הַנֶּגֶבallוְאֵת כָּלthe landאֶרֶץof Goshen,הַגֹּשֶׁןthe Shephelah,וְאֶת הַשְּׁפֵלָהthe Arabah,וְאֶת הָעֲרָבָהand the hill countryוְאֶת הַרof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand its Shephelah,וּשְׁפֵלָתֹה
fromמִןMountהָהָרHalak,הֶחָלָקwhich goes upהָעוֹלֶהtoward Seir,שֵׂעִירas far asוְעַדBaal-gadבַּעַל גָּדin the valleyבְּבִקְעַתof LebanonהַלְּבָנוֹןbelowתַּחַתMountהַרHermon.חֶרְמוֹןAnd allוְאֵת כָּלtheir kingsמַלְכֵיהֶםhe tookלָכַדand struck themוַיַּכֵּםand put them to death.וַיְמִיתֵם
For manyרַבִּיםdaysיָמִיםJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַmadeעָשָׂהwarמִלְחָמָהwith allאֶת כָּלtheseהָאֵלֶּהkings.הַמְּלָכִים
There wasהָיְתָהnotלֹאa cityעִירthatאֲשֶׁרmade peaceהִשְׁלִימָהwithאֶלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלexceptבִּלְתִּיthe Hivite,הַחִוִּיthe inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵיof Gibeon;גִבְעוֹןallאֶת הַכֹּלthey tookלָקְחוּin battle.בַמִּלְחָמָה
Forכִּיit wasהָיְתָהfrom YHWHמֵאֵת יְהוָהto makeלְחַזֵּקtheir heartאֶת לִבָּםobstinateחַזֵּקto meetלִקְרַאתIsraelאֶת יִשְׂרָאֵלin battle,הַמִּלְחָמָהin order thatלְמַעַןhe might devote them to destruction,הַחֲרִימָםso thatלְthere would beהֱיוֹתnoבִלְתִּיfavorתְּחִנָּהfor them,לָהֶםbutכִּיin order thatלְמַעַןhe might destroy them,הַשְׁמִידָםjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad commandedצִוָּהMoses.אֶת מֹשֶׁה
And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַcameוַיָּבֹאat thatבָּ הַהִיאtimeעֵתand cut offוַיַּכְרֵתthe Anakimאֶת הָעֲנָקִיםfromמִןthe hill country,הָהָרfromמִןHebron,חֶבְרוֹןfromמִןDebir,דְּבִרfromמִןAnab,עֲנָבand from allוּמִכֹּלthe hill countryהַרof Judahיְהוּדָהand from allוּמִכֹּלthe hill countryהַרof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלwithעִםtheir citiesעָרֵיהֶםJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַdevoted them to destruction.הֶחֱרִימָם
NoלֹאAnakimעֲנָקִיםwere leftנוֹתַרin the landבְּאֶרֶץof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵלonlyרַקin Gaza,בְּעַזָּהin Gath,בְּגַתand in Ashdodוּבְאַשְׁדּוֹדdid some remain.נִשְׁאָרוּ
So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַtookוַיִּקַּחallאֶת כָּלthe land,הָאָרֶץaccording to allכְּכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad spokenדִּבֶּרtoאֶלMoses,מֹשֶׁהand Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַgave itיִּתְּנָהּas an inheritanceלְנַחֲלָהto Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵלaccording to their divisionsכְּמַחְלְקֹתָםby their tribes.לְשִׁבְטֵיהֶםAnd the landוְהָאָרֶץbecame calmשָׁקְטָהfrom war.מִמִּלְחָמָה
