The sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלagainוַיֹּסִפוּdidלַעֲשׂוֹתwhat was evilהָרַעin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH,יְהוָהand servedוַיַּעַבְדוּthe Baalsאֶת הַבְּעָלִיםand the Astartes,וְאֶת הָעַשְׁתָּרוֹתthe godsוְאֶת אֱלֹהֵיof Aram,אֲרָםthe godsוְאֶת אֱלֹהֵיof Sidon,צִידוֹןthe godsוְאֵת אֱלֹהֵיof Moab,מוֹאָבthe godsוְאֵת אֱלֹהֵיof the sonsבְנֵיof Ammon,עַמּוֹןand the godsוְאֵת אֱלֹהֵיof the Philistines;פְלִשְׁתִּיםthey abandonedוַיַּעַזְבוּYHWHאֶת יְהוָהand did notוְלֹאserve him.עֲבָדוּהוּ
The angerאַףof YHWHיְהוָהburnedוַיִּחַרagainst Israel,בְּיִשְׂרָאֵלand he sold themוַיִּמְכְּרֵםinto the handבְּיַדof the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּיםand into the handוּבְיַדof the sonsבְּנֵיof Ammon.עַמּוֹן
They shatteredוַיִּרְעֲצוּand crushedוַיְרֹצְצוּthe sonsאֶת בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלthatבַּ הַהִיאyear;שָּׁנָהeighteenשְׁמֹנֶה עֶשְׂרֵהyearsשָׁנָהthey did so to allאֶת כָּלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלwhoאֲשֶׁרwere beyondבְּעֵבֶרthe Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןin the landבְּאֶרֶץof the Amorite,הָאֱמֹרִיwhichאֲשֶׁרis in Gilead.בַּגִּלְעָד
The sonsבְנֵיof Ammonעַמּוֹןcrossedוַיַּעַבְרוּthe Jordanאֶת הַיַּרְדֵּןto fightלְהִלָּחֵםalsoגַּםagainst Judah,בִּיהוּדָהagainst Benjamin,וּבְבִנְיָמִיןand against the houseוּבְבֵיתof Ephraim,אֶפְרָיִםand Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵלwas in distressוַתֵּצֶרgreatly.מְאֹד
The sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלcried outוַיִּזְעֲקוּtoאֶלYHWH,יְהוָהsaying,לֵאמֹר“We have sinnedחָטָאנוּagainst you,לָךְbecauseוְכִיwe have abandonedעָזַבְנוּour Elohimאֶת אֱלֹהֵינוּand servedוַנַּעֲבֹדthe Baals.”אֶת הַבְּעָלִים
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל“Did I not deliver youהֲלֹאfrom Egypt,מִמִּצְרַיִםfromוּמִןthe Amorite,הָאֱמֹרִיfromוּמִןthe sonsבְּנֵיof Ammon,עַמּוֹןand fromוּמִןthe Philistines?פְּלִשְׁתִּים
And the Sidonians,וְצִידוֹנִיםAmalek,וַעֲמָלֵקand Maonוּמָעוֹןoppressed you,לָחֲצוּ אֶתְכֶםand you cried outוַתִּצְעֲקוּto me,אֵלַיand I saved youוָאוֹשִׁיעָה אֶתְכֶםfrom their hand.מִיָּדָם
Yet youוְאַתֶּםhave abandoned meעֲזַבְתֶּם אוֹתִיand servedוַתַּעַבְדוּotherאֲחֵרִיםgods;אֱלֹהִיםthereforeלָכֵןI will notלֹאagainאוֹסִיףsave you.לְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶתְכֶם
Goלְכוּand cry outוְזַעֲקוּtoאֶלthe godsהָאֱלֹהִיםwhomאֲשֶׁרyou have chosen;בְּחַרְתֶּם בָּםlet themהֵמָּהsaveיוֹשִׁיעוּyouלָכֶםin the timeבְּעֵתof your distress.”צָרַתְכֶם
The sonsבְנֵיof IsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלsaidוַיֹּאמְרוּtoאֶלYHWH,יְהוָה“We have sinned.חָטָאנוּDoעֲשֵׂהyouאַתָּהto usלָנוּaccording to allכְּכָלthat is goodהַטּוֹבin your eyes;בְּעֵינֶיךָonlyאַךְdeliver us,הַצִּילֵנוּplease,נָאthisהַזֶּהday.”הַיּוֹם
They removedוַיָּסִירוּthe foreignהַנֵּכָרgodsאֶת אֱלֹהֵיfrom among themמִקִּרְבָּםand servedוַיַּעַבְדוּYHWH;אֶת יְהוָהand his soulוַ נַפְשׁוֹgrew impatientתִּקְצַרwith the toilבַּעֲמַלof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
The sonsבְּנֵיof Ammonעַמּוֹןwere summonedוַיִּצָּעֲקוּand campedוַיַּחֲנוּin Gilead,בַּגִּלְעָדand the sonsוַ בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלgatheredיֵּאָסְפוּand campedוַיַּחֲנוּat Mizpah.בַּמִּצְפָּה
The people,הָעָםthe chiefsשָׂרֵיof Gilead,גִלְעָדsaidוַיֹּאמְרוּtoאֶלone another,אִישׁ רֵעֵהוּ“Whoמִיis the manהָאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרwill beginיָחֵלto fightלְהִלָּחֵםagainst the sonsבִּבְנֵיof Ammon?עַמּוֹןHe shall beיִהְיֶהheadלְרֹאשׁover allלְכֹלthe inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵיof Gilead.”גִלְעָד
