These areאֵלֶּהthe wordsדִבְרֵיof the covenantהַבְּרִיתthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהcommandedצִוָּהMosesאֶת מֹשֶׁהto makeלִכְרֹתwith the sonsאֶת בְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Moab,מוֹאָבbesidesמִלְּבַדthe covenantהַבְּרִיתthatאֲשֶׁרhe had madeכָּרַתwith themאִתָּםat Horeb.בְּחֹרֵב
And Mosesוַ מֹשֶׁהcalledיִּקְרָאtoאֶלallכָּלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵהֶםYouאַתֶּםhave seenרְאִיתֶםallכָּלthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהdidעָשָׂהbefore your eyesלְעֵינֵיכֶםin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרַיִםto Pharaohלְפַרְעֹהand to allוּלְכָלhis servantsעֲבָדָיוand to allוּלְכָלhis land:אַרְצוֹ
the greatהַגְּדֹלֹתtrialsהַמַּסּוֹתthatאֲשֶׁרyour eyesעֵינֶיךָsaw,רָאוּthe signsהָאֹתֹתand thoseוְ הָהֵםgreatהַגְּדֹלִיםwonders.הַמֹּפְתִים
But YHWHוְ יְהוָהhas notלֹאgivenנָתַןyouלָכֶםa heartלֵבto know,לָדַעַתor eyesוְעֵינַיִםto see,לִרְאוֹתor earsוְאָזְנַיִםto hear,לִשְׁמֹעַtoעַדthisהַזֶּהday.הַיּוֹם
“I have ledוָאוֹלֵךְyouאֶתְכֶםfortyאַרְבָּעִיםyearsשָׁנָהin the wilderness;בַּמִּדְבָּרyour cloaksשַׂלְמֹתֵיכֶםhave notלֹאworn outבָלוּon you,מֵעֲלֵיכֶםand your sandalוְנַעַלְךָhas notלֹאworn outבָלְתָהonמֵעַלyour foot.רַגְלֶךָ
Breadלֶחֶםyou have notלֹאeaten,אֲכַלְתֶּםand wineוְיַיִןand intoxicating drinkוְשֵׁכָרyou have notלֹאdrunk,שְׁתִיתֶםso thatלְמַעַןyou may knowתֵּדְעוּthatכִּיIאֲנִיam YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim.”אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
And you cameוַתָּבֹאוּtoאֶלthisהַזֶּהplace,הַמָּקוֹםand Sihonוַ סִיחֹןkingמֶלֶךְof Heshbonחֶשְׁבּוֹןand Ogוְעוֹגkingמֶלֶךְof Bashanהַבָּשָׁןcame outיֵּצֵאto meet usלִקְרָאתֵנוּin battle,לַמִּלְחָמָהand we struck them down.וַנַּכֵּם
And we tookוַנִּקַּחtheir landאַרְצָםand gave itוַנִּתְּנָהּas an inheritanceלְנַחֲלָהto the Reubenitesלָראוּבֵנִיand to the Gaditesוְלַגָּדִיand to the half-tribeוְלַחֲצִי שֵׁבֶטof the Manassites.הַמְנַשִּׁי
So keepוּשְׁמַרְתֶּםthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof thisהַזֹּאתcovenantהַבְּרִיתand doוַעֲשִׂיתֶםthem,אֹתָםso thatלְמַעַןyou may act wiselyתַּשְׂכִּילוּin allכָּלthatאֲשֶׁרyou do.תַּעֲשׂוּן
Youאַתֶּםare standingנִצָּבִיםtoday,הַיּוֹםall of you,כֻּלְּכֶםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim:אֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour heads,רָאשֵׁיכֶםyour tribes,שִׁבְטֵיכֶםyour elders,זִקְנֵיכֶםand your supervisors,וְשֹׁטְרֵיכֶםeveryכֹּלmanאִישׁof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל
your little ones,טַפְּכֶםyour wives,נְשֵׁיכֶםand your resident alienוְגֵרְךָwho isאֲשֶׁרin the midstבְּקֶרֶבof your camp,מַחֲנֶיךָfrom the one who cutsמֵחֹטֵבyour woodעֵצֶיךָtoעַדthe one who drawsשֹׁאֵבyour water,מֵימֶיךָ
so that you may enterלְעָבְרְךָinto the covenantבִּבְרִיתof YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָand into his oath of imprecation,וּבְאָלָתוֹwhichאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָis makingכֹּרֵתwith youעִמְּךָtoday,הַיּוֹם
in orderלְמַעַןto establishהָקִיםyouאֹתְךָtodayהַיּוֹםas hisלוֹpeople,לְעָםand that heוְהוּאmay beיִהְיֶהyourלְּךָElohim,לֵאלֹהִיםasכַּאֲשֶׁרhe toldדִּבֶּרyouלָךְand asוְכַאֲשֶׁרhe sworeנִשְׁבַּעto your fathers,לַאֲבֹתֶיךָto Abraham,לְאַבְרָהָםto Isaac,לְיִצְחָקand to Jacob.וּלְיַעֲקֹב
And it is notוְלֹאwith youאִתְּכֶםaloneלְבַדְּכֶםthat Iאָנֹכִיam makingכֹּרֵתthisהַזֹּאתcovenantהַבְּרִיתand thisוְ הַזֹּאתoath of imprecation,הָאָלָה
butכִּיwith whoeverאֶת אֲשֶׁרisיֶשְׁנוֹhereפֹּהwith us,עִמָּנוּstandingעֹמֵדtodayהַיּוֹםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּand with whoeverוְאֵת אֲשֶׁרis notאֵינֶנּוּhereפֹּהwith usעִמָּנוּtoday.הַיּוֹם
Forכִּיyouאַתֶּםknowיְדַעְתֶּםhowאֵת אֲשֶׁרwe livedיָשַׁבְנוּin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרָיִםand howוְאֵת אֲשֶׁרwe passedעָבַרְנוּthrough the midstבְּקֶרֶבof the nationsהַגּוֹיִםthrough whichאֲשֶׁרyou passed;עֲבַרְתֶּם
and you sawוַתִּרְאוּtheir detestable thingsשִׁקּוּצֵיהֶםand their idols,וְאֵת גִּלֻּלֵיהֶםwoodעֵץand stone,וָאֶבֶןsilverכֶּסֶףand gold,וְזָהָבwhichאֲשֶׁרwerewith them.עִמָּהֶם
Beware lestפֶּןthere beיֵשׁamong youבָּכֶםa manאִישׁorאוֹa womanאִשָּׁהorאוֹa clanמִשְׁפָּחָהorאוֹa tribeשֵׁבֶטwhoseאֲשֶׁר וֹheartלְבָבis turning awayפֹנֶהtodayהַיּוֹםfromמֵעִםYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּto goלָלֶכֶתand serveלַעֲבֹדthe godsאֱלֹהֵיof thoseהָהֵםnations;הַגּוֹיִםlestפֶּןthere beיֵשׁamong youבָּכֶםa rootשֹׁרֶשׁbearingפֹּרֶהpoisonרֹאשׁand wormwood.וְלַעֲנָה
And it happen,וְהָיָהwhen he hearsבְּשָׁמְעוֹthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof thisהַזֹּאתoath of imprecation,הָאָלָהthat he blesses himselfוְהִתְבָּרֵךְin his heart,בִּלְבָבוֹsaying,לֵאמֹר“I will haveיִהְיֶה לִּיpeace,שָׁלוֹםthoughכִּיI walkאֵלֵךְin the stubbornnessבִּשְׁרִרוּתof my heart,”לִבִּיso as to sweep awayלְמַעַן סְפוֹתthe wateredהָרָוָהwithאֶתthe thirsty.הַצְּמֵאָה
YHWHיְהוָהwill notלֹאbe willingיֹאבֶהto forgiveסְלֹחַhim,לוֹforכִּיthenאָזthe angerאַףof YHWHיְהוָהand his jealousyוְקִנְאָתוֹwill smokeיֶעְשַׁןagainst thatבָּ הַהוּאman,אִישׁand everyוְ כָּלoath of imprecationהָאָלָהwrittenהַכְּתוּבָהin thisהַזֶּהbookבַּסֵּפֶרwill settleרָבְצָהon him,בּוֹand YHWHוּ יְהוָהwill blot outמָחָהhis nameשְׁמוֹfrom underמִתַּחַתthe heavens.הַשָּׁמָיִם
And YHWHוְ יְהוָהwill single him outהִבְדִּילוֹfor evilלְרָעָהfrom allמִכֹּלthe tribesשִׁבְטֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלaccording to allכְּכֹלthe oaths of imprecationאָלוֹתof the covenantהַבְּרִיתwrittenהַכְּתוּבָהin thisהַזֶּהbookבְּסֵפֶרof the instruction.הַתּוֹרָה
And the generationוְ הַדּוֹרto come,הָאַחֲרוֹןyour sonsבְּנֵיכֶםwhoאֲשֶׁרrise upיָקוּמוּafter you,מֵאַחֲרֵיכֶםand the foreignerוְהַנָּכְרִיwhoאֲשֶׁרcomesיָבֹאfrom a distantמֵ רְחוֹקָהland,אֶרֶץwill say,אָמַרwhen they seeוְרָאוּthe blowsמַכּוֹתof thatהַהִואlandהָאָרֶץand its sicknessesוְ תַּחֲלֻאֶיהָwith whichאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhas made it sickחִלָּה בָּהּ
—allכָלits landאַרְצָהּbrimstoneגָּפְרִיתand salt,וָמֶלַחa burning;שְׂרֵפָהit will notלֹאbe sown,תִזָּרַעand it will notוְלֹאsprout,תַצְמִחַand noוְלֹא כָּלplantעֵשֶׂבwill come upיַעֲלֶהin it,בָהּlike the overthrowכְּמַהְפֵּכַתof Sodomסְדֹםand Gomorrah,וַעֲמֹרָהAdmahאַדְמָהand Zeboiim,וּצְבוֹיִםwhichאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהoverthrewהָפַךְin his angerבְּאַפּוֹand in his wrath—וּבַחֲמָתוֹ
allכָּלthe nationsהַגּוֹיִםwill say,וְאָמְרוּ“Whyעַל מֶהhas YHWHיְהוָהdoneעָשָׂהthusכָּכָהto thisהַזֹּאתland?לָאָרֶץWhat isמֶהthe heatחֳרִיof thisהַזֶּהgreatהַגָּדוֹלanger?”הָאַף
And they will say,וְאָמְרוּ“Becauseעַל אֲשֶׁרthey forsookעָזְבוּthe covenantבְּרִיתof YHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof their fathers,אֲבֹתָםwhichאֲשֶׁרhe madeכָּרַתwith themעִמָּםwhen he broughtבְּהוֹצִיאוֹthemאֹתָםout of the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt.מִצְרָיִם
And they wentוַיֵּלְכוּand servedוַיַּעַבְדוּotherאֲחֵרִיםgodsאֱלֹהִיםand bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲוּוּto them,לָהֶםgodsאֱלֹהִיםthatאֲשֶׁרthey had notלֹאknownיְדָעוּםand that he had notוְלֹאallottedחָלַקto them.לָהֶם
So the angerוַ אַףof YHWHיְהוָהburnedיִּחַרagainst thatבָּ הַהִואland,אָרֶץto bringלְהָבִיאon itעָלֶיהָallכָּלthe curseהַקְּלָלָהwrittenהַכְּתוּבָהin thisהַזֶּהbook.בַּסֵּפֶר
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהuprooted themיִּתְּשֵׁםfromמֵעַלtheir groundאַדְמָתָםin angerבְּאַףand in wrathוּבְחֵמָהand in greatוּבְ גָּדוֹלfury,קֶצֶףand cast themוַיַּשְׁלִכֵםintoאֶלanotherאַחֶרֶתland,אֶרֶץas it is thisכַּ הַזֶּהday.”יּוֹם
The hidden thingsהַנִּסְתָּרֹתbelong to YHWHלַיהוָהour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּbut the revealed thingsוְהַנִּגְלֹתbelong to usלָׄנׄוּׄand to our sonsוּׄלְׄבָׄנֵׄיׄנׄוּׄforever,עַד עוֹלָםto doלַעֲשׂוֹתallכָּלthe wordsדִּבְרֵיof thisהַזֹּאתinstruction.הַתּוֹרָה
