the sonבֶּןof Amariah,אֲמַרְיָהthe sonבֶןof Azariah,עֲזַרְיָהthe sonבֶּןof Meraioth,מְרָיוֹת
the sonבֶּןof Zerahiah,זְרַחְיָהthe sonבֶןof Uzzi,עֻזִּיthe sonבֶּןof Bukki,בֻּקִּי
the sonבֶּןof Abishua,אֲבִישׁוּעַthe sonבֶּןof Phinehas,פִּינְחָסthe sonבֶּןof Eleazar,אֶלְעָזָרthe sonבֶּןof Aaronאַהֲרֹןthe headהָרֹאשׁpriest:הַכֹּהֵן
thisהוּאEzraעֶזְרָאwent upעָלָהfrom Babylon.מִבָּבֶלAnd heוְהוּאwas a skilledמָהִירscribeסֹפֵרin the lawבְּתוֹרַתof Moses,מֹשֶׁהwhichאֲשֶׁרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלhad given;נָתַןand the kingוַ הַמֶּלֶךְgaveיִּתֶּןhim,לוֹaccording to the handכְּיַדof YHWHיְהוָהhis Elohimאֱלֹהָיוupon him,עָלָיוallכֹּלhe requested.בַּקָּשָׁתוֹ
And there went upוַיַּעֲלוּsome of the sonsמִבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand ofוּמִןthe priestsהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּםand the singersוְהַמְשֹׁרְרִיםand the gatekeepersוְהַשֹּׁעֲרִיםand the NethinimוְהַנְּתִינִיםtoאֶלJerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִָםin the seventhבִּ שֶׁבַעyearשְׁנַתof Artaxerxesלְאַרְתַּחְשַׁסְתְּאthe king.הַמֶּלֶךְ
And he cameוַיָּבֹאto Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםin the fifthהַחֲמִישִׁיmonth;בַּחֹדֶשׁitהִיאwas the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִיתyearשְׁנַתof the king.לַמֶּלֶךְ
Forכִּיon the first dayבְּאֶחָדof the firstלַ הָרִאשׁוֹןmonthחֹדֶשׁwasהוּאthe beginningיְסֻדof the going upהַמַּעֲלָהfrom Babylon,מִבָּבֶלand on the first dayוּבְאֶחָדof the fifthלַ הַחֲמִישִׁיmonthחֹדֶשׁhe cameבָּאtoאֶלJerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִַםaccording to the goodכְּ הַטּוֹבָהhandיַדof his Elohimאֱלֹהָיוupon him.עָלָיו
ForכִּיEzraעֶזְרָאhad setהֵכִיןhis heartלְבָבוֹto seekלִדְרוֹשׁthe lawאֶת תּוֹרַתof YHWHיְהוָהand to do it,וְלַעֲשֹׂתand to teachוּלְלַמֵּדin Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלstatuteחֹקand rule.וּמִשְׁפָּט
And thisוְזֶהis the copyפַּרְשֶׁגֶןof the letterהַנִּשְׁתְּוָןthatאֲשֶׁרKingהַמֶּלֶךְArtaxerxesאַרְתַּחְשַׁסְתְּאgaveנָתַןto Ezraלְעֶזְרָאthe priest,הַכֹּהֵןthe scribe,הַסֹּפֵרa scribeסֹפֵרof the wordsדִּבְרֵיof the commandmentsמִצְוֺתof YHWHיְהוָהand of his statutesוְחֻקָּיוfor Israel:עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל
“Artaxerxes,אַרְתַּחְשַׁסְתְּאkingמֶלֶךְof kings,מַלְכַיָּאto Ezraלְעֶזְרָאthe priest,כָהֲנָאscribeסָפַרof the lawדָּתָאofדִּיthe Elahאֱלָהּof the heavens:שְׁמַיָּאcomplete peace.גְּמִירAnd now:וּכְעֶנֶת
by meמִנִּיan orderטְעֵםis givenשִׂיםthatדִּיeveryoneכָלin my kingdomבְּמַלְכוּתִיfromמִןthe peopleעַמָּהof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand its priestsוְכָהֲנוֹהִיand the Levitesוְלֵוָיֵאwho freely offers himselfמִתְנַדַּבto goלִמְהָךְto Jerusalemלִירוּשְׁלֶםwith youעִמָּךְmay go.יְהָךְ
Becauseכָּל קֳבֵל דִּיyou are sentשְׁלִיחַfromמִןbeforeקֳדָםthe kingמַלְכָּאand his sevenוְשִׁבְעַת הִיcounselorsיָעֲטֹto investigateלְבַקָּרָאaboutעַלJudahיְהוּדand Jerusalemוְלִירוּשְׁלֶםaccording to the lawבְּדָתof your Elah,אֱלָהָךְwhichדִּיis in your hand,בִידָךְ
and to carryוּלְהֵיבָלָהthe silverכְּסַףand goldוּדְהַבthatדִּיthe kingמַלְכָּאand his counselorsוְיָעֲטוֹהִיhave freely offeredהִתְנַדַּבוּto the Elahלֶאֱלָהּof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלwhoseדִּיdwellingמִשְׁכְּנֵהּis in Jerusalem,בִירוּשְׁלֶם
and allוְכֹלthe silverכְּסַףand goldוּדְהַבthatדִּיyou findתְהַשְׁכַּחin allבְּכֹלthe provinceמְדִינַתof Babylon,בָּבֶלwithעִםthe freewill offeringהִתְנַדָּבוּתof the peopleעַמָּאand the priests,וְכָהֲנַיָּאwho offer freelyמִתְנַדְּבִיןfor the houseלְבֵיתof their Elahאֱלָהֲהֹםwhichדִּיis in Jerusalem.בִירוּשְׁלֶם
Therefore,כָּל קֳבֵל דְּנָהwith diligenceאָסְפַּרְנָאyou shall buyתִקְנֵאwith thisבְּ דְנָהsilverכַסְפָּאbulls,תּוֹרִיןrams,דִּכְרִיןlambs,אִמְּרִיןand their grain offeringsוּמִנְחָתְהוֹןand their libations,וְנִסְכֵּיהוֹןand you shall offerוּתְקָרֵבthemהִמּוֹonעַלthe altarמַדְבְּחָהofדִּיthe houseבֵּיתof your Elahאֱלָהֲכֹםwhichדִּיis in Jerusalem.בִירוּשְׁלֶם
And whateverוּמָה דִיseems goodיֵיטַבto youעֲלָךְand to your brothersוְעַל אֶחָךְto doלְמֶעְבַּדwith the restבִּשְׁאָרof the silverכַּסְפָּאand the gold,וְדַהֲבָהyou shall do itתַּעַבְדוּןaccording to the willכִּרְעוּתof your Elah.אֱלָהֲכֹם
And the utensilsוּמָאנַיָּאthatדִּיare givenמִתְיַהֲבִיןto youלָךְfor the serviceלְפָלְחָןof the houseבֵּיתof your Elah,אֱלָהָךְdeliverהַשְׁלֵםbeforeקֳדָםthe Elahאֱלָהּof Jerusalem.יְרוּשְׁלֶם
And the restוּשְׁאָרof what is neededחַשְׁחוּתfor the houseבֵּיתof your Elah,אֱלָהָךְwhichדִּיfallsיִפֶּלto youלָךְto give,לְמִנְתַּןyou shall giveתִּנְתֵּןfromמִןthe houseבֵּיתof the treasuresגִּנְזֵיof the king.מַלְכָּא
And by me,וּמִנִּיI,אֲנָהArtaxerxesאַרְתַּחְשַׁסְתְּאthe king,מַלְכָּאan orderטְעֵםis givenשִׂיםto allלְכֹלthe treasurersגִּזַּבְרַיָּאwhoדִּיare in the other sideבַּעֲבַרof the river,נַהֲרָהthatדִּיallכָלthatדִּיEzraעֶזְרָאthe priest,כָהֲנָהscribeסָפַרof the lawדָּתָאofדִּיthe Elahאֱלָהּof the heavens,שְׁמַיָּאasks of youיִשְׁאֲלֶנְכוֹןbe doneיִתְעֲבִדwith diligence,אָסְפַּרְנָא
up toעַדone hundredמְאָהtalentsכַּכְּרִיןof silver,כְּסַףand up toוְעַדone hundredמְאָהcorsכֹּרִיןof wheat,חִנְטִיןand up toוְעַדone hundredמְאָהbathsבַּתִּיןof wine,חֲמַרand up toוְעַדone hundredמְאָהbathsבַּתִּיןof oil,מְשַׁחand saltוּמְלַחwithoutדִּי לָאmeasure.כְתָב
Allכָּלthatדִּיis byמִןthe orderטַעַםof the Elahאֱלָהּof the heavens,שְׁמַיָּאlet it be doneיִתְעֲבֵדexactlyאַדְרַזְדָּאfor the houseלְבֵיתof the Elahאֱלָהּof the heavens;שְׁמַיָּאforדִּיwhyלְמָהshould there beלֶהֱוֵאangerקְצַףuponעַלthe kingdomמַלְכוּתof the kingמַלְכָּאand his sons?וּבְנוֹהִי
And to youוּלְכֹםit is made knownמְהוֹדְעִיןthatדִּיas for allכָלthe priestsכָּהֲנַיָּאand Levites,וְלֵוָיֵאsingers,זַמָּרַיָּאgatekeepers,תָרָעַיָּאNethinim,נְתִינַיָּאand servantsוּפָלְחֵיof thisדְנָהhouseבֵּיתof Elah,אֱלָהָאit is notלָאpermittedשַׁלִּיטto imposeלְמִרְמֵאon themעֲלֵיהֹםtribute,מִנְדָּהtax,בְלוֹor toll.וַהֲלָךְ
And you,וְאַנְתְּEzra,עֶזְרָאaccording to the wisdomכְּחָכְמַתof your Elahאֱלָהָךְwhichדִּיis in your hand,בִידָךְappointמֶנִּיmagistratesשָׁפְטִיןand judgesוְדַיָּנִיןwhoדִּיmayלֶהֱוֺןjudgeדָּאיְנִיןallלְכָלthe peopleעַמָּהwhoדִּיare in the other sideבַּעֲבַרof the river,נַהֲרָהallלְכָלwho knowיָדְעֵיthe lawsדָּתֵיof your Elah;אֱלָהָךְand whoeverוְדִיdoes notלָאknow them,יָדַעyou shall make them known.תְּהוֹדְעוּן
And whoeverוְכָל דִּיdoes notלָאcarry outלֶהֱוֵא עָבֵדthe lawדָּתָאofדִיyour Elahאֱלָהָךְand the lawוְדָתָאofדִּיthe king,מַלְכָּאwith diligenceאָסְפַּרְנָאlet judgmentדִּינָהbeלֶהֱוֵאexecutedמִתְעֲבֵדon him,מִנֵּהּwhetherהֵןfor death,לְמוֹתorהֵןfor uprooting,לִשְׁרֹשִׁיorהֵןfor a fineלַעֲנָשׁof goods,נִכְסִיןorוְfor imprisonment.”לֶאֱסוּרִין
Blessed beבָּרוּךְYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof our fathers,אֲבוֹתֵינוּwhoאֲשֶׁרputנָתַןsomething like thisכָּזֹאתin the heartבְּלֵבof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְto beautifyלְפָאֵרthe houseבֵּיתof YHWHיְהוָהwhichאֲשֶׁרis in Jerusalem,בִּירוּשָׁלִָם
and to meוְעָלַיhe extendedהִטָּהloyal loveחֶסֶדbeforeלִפְנֵיthe kingהַמֶּלֶךְand his counselorsוְיוֹעֲצָיוand allוּלְכָלthe officialsשָׂרֵיof the king,הַמֶּלֶךְthe mighty men.הַגִּבֹּרִיםAnd Iוַאֲנִיstrengthened myselfהִתְחַזַּקְתִּיaccording to the handכְּיַדof YHWHיְהוָהmy Elohimאֱלֹהַיupon me,עָלַיand I gatheredוָאֶקְבְּצָהfrom Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵלheadsרָאשִׁיםto go upלַעֲלוֹתwith me.עִמִּי
