And it came aboutוַיְהִיafterאַחֲרֵיthe deathמוֹתof Mosesמֹשֶׁהthe servantעֶבֶדof YHWH,יְהוָהthatYHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרtoאֶלJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsonבִּןof Nun,נוּןMoses’מֹשֶׁהassistant:מְשָׁרֵת
“Mosesמֹשֶׁהmy servantעַבְדִּיis dead.מֵתNowוְעַתָּהarise,קוּםcrossעֲבֹרthisהַזֶּהJordan,אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּןyouאַתָּהand allוְכָלthisהַזֶּהpeople,הָעָםtoאֶלthe landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam givingנֹתֵןto them,לָהֶםto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
Everyכָּלplaceמָקוֹםon whichאֲשֶׁר בּוֹthe soleכַּףof your footרַגְלְכֶםtreadsתִּדְרֹךְI have given itנְתַתִּיוto you,לָכֶםjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרI spokeדִּבַּרְתִּיtoאֶלMoses.מֹשֶׁה
From the wildernessמֵהַמִּדְבָּרand thisהַזֶּהLebanonוְהַלְּבָנוֹןas far asוְעַדthe greatהַגָּדוֹלriver,הַנָּהָרthe riverנְהַרEuphrates,פְּרָתallכֹּלthe landאֶרֶץof the Hittites,הַחִתִּיםand as far asוְעַדthe GreatהַגָּדוֹלSeaהַיָּםtoward the settingמְבוֹאof the sun,הַשָּׁמֶשׁshall beיִהְיֶהyour territory.גְּבוּלְכֶם
Noלֹאmanאִישׁshall standיִתְיַצֵּבbefore youלְפָנֶיךָallכֹּלthe daysיְמֵיof your life.חַיֶּיךָJust asכַּאֲשֶׁרI wasהָיִיתִיwithעִםMoses,מֹשֶׁהI will beאֶהְיֶהwith you;עִמָּךְI will notלֹאlet you goאַרְפְּךָorוְלֹאabandon you.אֶעֶזְבֶךָּ
Be strongחֲזַקand firm,וֶאֱמָץforכִּיyouאַתָּהwill makeתַּנְחִילthisהַזֶּהpeopleאֶת הָעָםinheritתַּנְחִילthe landאֶת הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI sworeנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיto their fathersלַאֲבוֹתָםto giveלָתֵתto them.לָהֶם
Onlyרַקbe strongחֲזַקand veryוֶ מְאֹדfirm,אֱמַץbeing carefulלִשְׁמֹרto doלַעֲשׂוֹתaccording to allכְּכָלthe instructionהַתּוֹרָהthatאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהmy servantעַבְדִּיcommanded you.צִוְּךָDo notאַלturn asideתָּסוּרfrom itמִמֶּנּוּto the rightיָמִיןor to the left,וּשְׂמֹאולso thatלְמַעַןyou may act wiselyתַּשְׂכִּילwhereverבְּכֹל אֲשֶׁרyou go.תֵּלֵךְ
Thisהַזֶּהbookסֵפֶרof the instructionהַתּוֹרָהshall notלֹאdepartיָמוּשׁfrom your mouth,מִפִּיךָand you shall meditateוְהָגִיתָon itבּוֹdayיוֹמָםand night,וָלַיְלָהso thatלְמַעַןyou may be carefulתִּשְׁמֹרto doלַעֲשׂוֹתaccording to allכְּכָלthat is writtenהַכָּתוּבin it.בּוֹForכִּיthenאָזyou will makeתַּצְלִיחַyour wayאֶת דְּרָכֶךָprosper,תַּצְלִיחַand thenוְאָזyou will act wisely.תַּשְׂכִּיל
Have I notהֲלוֹאcommanded you?צִוִּיתִיךָBe strongחֲזַקand firm.וֶאֱמָץDo notאַלbe terrifiedתַּעֲרֹץorוְאַלdismayed,תֵּחָתforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָis with youעִמְּךָwhereverבְּכֹל אֲשֶׁרyou go.”תֵּלֵךְ
Then Joshuaוַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַcommandedיְצַוthe supervisorsאֶת שֹׁטְרֵיof the people,הָעָםsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Passעִבְרוּthrough the middleבְּקֶרֶבof the campהַמַּחֲנֶהand commandוְצַוּוּthe people,אֶת הָעָםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Prepareהָכִינוּprovisionsצֵידָהfor yourselves,לָכֶםforכִּיwithinבְּעוֹדthreeשְׁלֹשֶׁתdaysיָמִיםyouאַתֶּםare crossingעֹבְרִיםthisהַזֶּהJordanאֶת הַיַּרְדֵּןto go inלָבוֹאto take possession ofלָרֶשֶׁתthe landאֶת הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםis givingנֹתֵןyouלָכֶםto possess it.’”לְרִשְׁתָּהּ
And to the Reubenite,וְלָראוּבֵנִיto the Gadite,וְלַגָּדִיand to halfוְלַחֲצִיthe tribeשֵׁבֶטof ManassehהַמְנַשֶּׁהJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַsaid,אָמַר
“Rememberזָכוֹרthe wordאֶת הַדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהthe servantעֶבֶדof YHWHיְהוָהcommanded you,צִוָּה אֶתְכֶםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםis giving you restמֵנִיחַ לָכֶםand will giveוְנָתַןyouלָכֶםthisהַזֹּאתland.’אֶת הָאָרֶץ
Your wives,נְשֵׁיכֶםyour little ones,טַפְּכֶםand your livestockוּמִקְנֵיכֶםshall liveיֵשְׁבוּin the landבָּאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהgaveנָתַןyouלָכֶםbeyondבְּעֵבֶרthe Jordan,הַיַּרְדֵּןbut youוְאַתֶּםshall crossתַּעַבְרוּin battle formationחֲמֻשִׁיםbeforeלִפְנֵיyour brothers,אֲחֵיכֶםallכֹּלthe mightyגִּבּוֹרֵיwarriors,הַחַיִלand helpוַעֲזַרְתֶּםthem,אוֹתָם
untilעַד אֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהgives restיָנִיחַto your brothersלַאֲחֵיכֶםasכָּto you,כֶםandוְtheyהֵמָּהalsoגַםtake possession ofיָרְשׁוּthe landאֶת הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֵיכֶםis givingנֹתֵןthem.לָהֶםThen you shall returnוְשַׁבְתֶּםto the landלְאֶרֶץof your possessionיְרֻשַּׁתְכֶםand possess it,וִירִשְׁתֶּם אוֹתָהּwhichאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהthe servantעֶבֶדof YHWHיְהוָהgaveנָתַןyouלָכֶםbeyondבְּעֵבֶרthe Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּןtoward the sunrise.”מִזְרַח הַשָּׁמֶשׁ
They answeredוַיַּעֲנוּJoshua,אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַsaying,לֵאמֹר“Allכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרyou have commanded usצִוִּיתָנוּwe will do,נַעֲשֶׂהand whereverוְאֶל כָּל אֲשֶׁרyou send usתִּשְׁלָחֵנוּwe will go.נֵלֵךְ
Just asכְּ אֲשֶׁרwe listenedשָׁמַעְנוּtoאֶלMosesמֹשֶׁהin all things,כֹלsoכֵּןwe will listenנִשְׁמַעto you.אֵלֶיךָOnlyרַקmay YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָbeיִהְיֶהwith youעִמָּךְasכַּאֲשֶׁרhe wasהָיָהwithעִםMoses.מֹשֶׁה
Anyכָּלmanאִישׁwhoאֲשֶׁרrebelsיַמְרֶהagainst your commandאֶת פִּיךָand does notוְלֹאlisten toיִשְׁמַעyour wordsאֶת דְּבָרֶיךָin allלְכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרyou command himתְּצַוֶּנּוּshall be put to death.יוּמָתOnlyרַקbe strongחֲזַקand firm.”וֶאֱמָץ
