The sonsבְנֵיof Aaron,אַהֲרֹןNadabנָדָבand Abihu,וַאֲבִיהוּאeachאִישׁtookוַיִּקְחוּhis censer,מַחְתָּתוֹputוַיִּתְּנוּfireאֵשׁin them,בָהֵןlaidוַיָּשִׂימוּincenseקְטֹרֶתon it,עָלֶיהָand presentedוַיַּקְרִבוּbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהstrangeזָרָהfireאֵשׁthatאֲשֶׁרhe had notלֹאcommandedצִוָּהthem.אֹתָם
And fireוַ אֵשׁcame outתֵּצֵאfrom beforeמִלִּפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהand consumedוַתֹּאכַלthem,אוֹתָםand they diedוַיָּמֻתוּbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
Mosesמֹשֶׁהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Aaron,אֶל אַהֲרֹן“This isהוּאwhatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהspoke,דִּבֶּרsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Among those who come nearבִּקְרֹבַmeיI will be treated as holy,אֶקָּדֵשׁand beforeוְעַל פְּנֵיallכָלthe peopleהָעָםI will be honored.’”אֶכָּבֵדAnd Aaronוַ אַהֲרֹןwas silent.יִּדֹּם
MosesמֹשֶׁהcalledוַיִּקְרָאMishaelאֶל מִישָׁאֵלand Elzaphan,וְאֶל אֶלְצָפָןsonsבְּנֵיof Uzziel,עֻזִּיאֵלAaron’sאַהֲרֹןuncle,דֹּדand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵהֶם“Come near,קִרְבוּcarryשְׂאוּyour brothersאֲחֵיכֶםfrom beforeמֵאֵת פְּנֵיthe Holy Placeהַקֹּדֶשׁtoאֶלoutsideמִחוּץthe camp.”לַמַּחֲנֶה
They came nearוַיִּקְרְבוּand carried themוַיִּשָּׂאֻםin their tunicsבְּכֻתֳּנֹתָםtoאֶלoutsideמִחוּץthe camp,לַמַּחֲנֶהasכַּאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהhad said.דִּבֶּר
Mosesמֹשֶׁהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto Aaronאֶל אַהֲרֹןand to Eleazarוּלְאֶלְעָזָרand to Ithamar,וּלְאִיתָמָרhis sons,בָּנָיו“Do notאַלlet the hair of your heads hang looseרָאשֵׁיכֶם תִּפְרָעוּand do notוּ לֹאtearתִפְרֹמוּyour garments,בִגְדֵיכֶםso that you do notוְלֹאdieתָמֻתוּand he does not become angryוְ יִקְצֹףwithעַלallכָּלthe community;הָעֵדָהbut your brothers,וַאֲחֵיכֶםallכָּלthe houseבֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלshall weepיִבְכּוּover the burningהַשְּׂרֵפָהthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhas kindled.שָׂרַף
And from the entranceוּמִפֶּתַחof the tentאֹהֶלof meetingמוֹעֵדyou shall notלֹאgo out,תֵצְאוּlestפֶּןyou die,תָּמֻתוּforכִּיthe oilשֶׁמֶןof anointingמִשְׁחַתof YHWHיְהוָהis on you.”עֲלֵיכֶםAnd they didוַיַּעֲשׂוּaccording to the wordכִּדְבַרof Moses.מֹשֶׁה
YHWHיְהוָהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto Aaron,אֶל אַהֲרֹןsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Do notאַלdrinkתֵּשְׁתְּwineיַיִןor intoxicating drink,וְשֵׁכָרyouאַתָּהor your sonsוּבָנֶיךָwith you,אִתָּךְwhen you goבְּבֹאֲכֶםintoאֶלthe tentאֹהֶלof meeting,מוֹעֵדso that you do notוְלֹאdie;תָמֻתוּit is a statuteחֻקַּתforeverעוֹלָםthroughout your generations,לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶם
and to separateוּלֲהַבְדִּילthe holyבֵּין הַקֹּדֶשׁfrom the common,וּבֵין הַחֹלand the uncleanוּבֵין הַטָּמֵאfrom the clean,וּבֵין הַטָּהוֹר
and to teachוּלְהוֹרֹתthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלallכָּלthe statutesהַחֻקִּיםthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhas spokenדִּבֶּרto themאֲלֵיהֶםthroughבְּיַדMoses.”מֹשֶׁה
Mosesמֹשֶׁהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto Aaronאֶל אַהֲרֹןand to Eleazarוְאֶל אֶלְעָזָרand to Ithamar,וְאֶל אִיתָמָרhis sonsבָּנָיוwho were left,הַנּוֹתָרִים“Takeקְחוּthe grain offeringהַמִּנְחָהthat is leftהַנּוֹתֶרֶתfrom the fire offeringsמֵאִשֵּׁיof YHWH,יְהוָהand eat itוְאִכְלוּהָunleavenedמַצּוֹתbesideאֵצֶלthe altar,הַמִּזְבֵּחַforכִּיit isהִואa most holy thing.קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים
You shall eatוַאֲכַלְתֶּםitאֹתָהּin a holyקָדֹשׁplace,בְּמָקוֹםforכִּיit isהִואyour portionחָקְךָand the portionוְחָקof your sonsבָּנֶיךָfrom the fire offeringsמֵאִשֵּׁיof YHWH;יְהוָהforכִּיsoכֵןI have been commanded.צֻוֵּיתִי
The breastוְ חֲזֵהof the wave offeringהַתְּנוּפָהand the thighוְ שׁוֹקof the contributionהַתְּרוּמָהyou shall eatתֹּאכְלוּin a cleanטָהוֹרplace,בְּמָקוֹםyouאַתָּהand your sonsוּבָנֶיךָand your daughtersוּבְנֹתֶיךָwith you;אִתָּךְforכִּיthey have been givenנִתְּנוּas your portionחָקְךָand the portionוְחָקof your sonsבָּנֶיךָfrom the sacrificesמִזִּבְחֵיof peaceשַׁלְמֵיof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
The thighשׁוֹקof the contributionהַתְּרוּמָהand the breastוַחֲזֵהof the wave offeringהַתְּנוּפָהthey shall bring,יָבִיאוּtogether withעַלthe fire offeringsאִשֵּׁיof the fat portions,הַחֲלָבִיםto waveלְהָנִיףas a wave offeringתְּנוּפָהbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH;יְהוָהand it shall beוְהָיָהyoursלְךָand your sons’וּלְבָנֶיךָwith you,אִתְּךָas a statuteלְחָקforever,עוֹלָםasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhas commanded.”צִוָּה
Mosesמֹשֶׁהsearched diligentlyדָּרֹשׁ דָּרַשׁfor the goatוְ שְׂעִירof the sin offering,הַחַטָּאתand look,וְהִנֵּהit had been burned;שֹׂרָףand he was angryוַיִּקְצֹףwithעַלEleazarאֶלְעָזָרand withוְעַלIthamar,אִיתָמָרthe remainingהַנּוֹתָרִםsonsבְּנֵיof Aaron,אַהֲרֹןsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Whyמַדּוּעַdid you notלֹאeatאֲכַלְתֶּםthe sin offeringהַחַטָּאתin the holyהַקֹּדֶשׁplace?בִּמְקוֹםForכִּיit isהִואa most holy thing,קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁיםand he has givenוְ נָתַןitאֹתָהּto youלָכֶםto bearלָשֵׂאתthe iniquityעֲוֺןof the community,הָעֵדָהto make expiationלְכַפֵּרfor themעֲלֵיהֶםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH.יְהוָה
Look,הֵןits bloodדָּמָהּwas notלֹאbroughtהוּבָאintoאֶלthe Holy Placeהַקֹּדֶשׁwithin;פְּנִימָהyou should certainly have eatenאָכוֹל תֹּאכְלוּitאֹתָהּin the holy place,בַּקֹּדֶשׁasכַּאֲשֶׁרI commanded.”צִוֵּיתִי
Aaronאַהֲרֹןspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁה“Look,הֵןtodayהַיּוֹםthey have presentedהִקְרִיבוּtheir sin offeringחַטָּאתָםand their burnt offeringוְ עֹלָתָםbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWH,יְהוָהand things like theseכָּאֵלֶּהhave happenedוַתִּקְרֶאנָהto me;אֹתִיif I had eatenוְאָכַלְתִּיa sin offeringחַטָּאתtoday,הַיּוֹםwould it have been goodהַיִּיטַבin the eyesבְּעֵינֵיof YHWH?”יְהוָה
Mosesמֹשֶׁהheard this,וַיִּשְׁמַעand it was goodוַיִּיטַבin his eyes.בְּעֵינָיו
