YHWHיְהוָהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto Mosesאֶל מֹשֶׁהand to Aaron,וְאֶל אַהֲרֹןsayingלֵאמֹרto them,אֲלֵהֶם
“Speakדַּבְּרוּto the sonsאֶל בְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלsaying:לֵאמֹרThese areזֹאתthe animalsהַחַיָּהthatאֲשֶׁרyou may eatתֹּאכְלוּout of allמִכָּלthe beastsהַבְּהֵמָהthat areאֲשֶׁרonעַלthe earth.הָאָרֶץ
Any beastכֹּלthat has a dividedמַפְרֶסֶתhoofפַּרְסָהand is splitוְשֹׁסַעַתwith a cleftשֶׁסַעin its hooves,פְּרָסֹתthat chewsמַעֲלַתthe cud,גֵּרָהamong the beasts,בַּבְּהֵמָהitאֹתָהּyou may eat.תֹּאכֵלוּ
Butאַךְtheseזֶהyou shall notלֹאeat,תֹאכְלוּamong those that chewמִמַּעֲלֵיthe cudהַגֵּרָהor among those that divideוּמִמַּפְרִיסֵיthe hoof:הַפַּרְסָהthe camel,הַגָּמָלforכִּיit chewsמַעֲלֵה הוּאthe cudגֵרָהbut does notאֵינֶנּוּdivideמַפְרִיסthe hoof;וּפַרְסָהit shall beהוּאuncleanטָמֵאfor you.לָכֶם
And the hyrax,וְ הַשָּׁפָןforכִּיit chewsמַעֲלֵה הוּאthe cudגֵרָהbut does notוּ לֹאdivideיַפְרִיסthe hoof;פַרְסָהit shall beהוּאuncleanטָמֵאfor you.לָכֶם
And the hare,וְ הָאַרְנֶבֶתforכִּיit chewsמַעֲלַת הִואthe cudגֵּרָהbut does notוּ לֹאdivideהִפְרִיסָהthe hoof;פַרְסָהit shall beהִואuncleanטְמֵאָהfor you.לָכֶם
And the pig,וְ הַחֲזִירforכִּיit dividesמַפְרִיס הוּאthe hoofפַּרְסָהand is splitוְשֹׁסַעwith a cleftשֶׁסַעin the hoof,פַּרְסָהbut itוְהוּאdoes notלֹאchewיִגָּרthe cud;גֵּרָהit shall beהוּאuncleanטָמֵאfor you.לָכֶם
Of their fleshמִבְּשָׂרָםyou shall notלֹאeat,תֹאכֵלוּand their carcassesוּבְנִבְלָתָםyou shall notלֹאtouch;תִגָּעוּthey shall beהֵםuncleanטְמֵאִיםfor you.לָכֶם
Theseזֶהyou may eatתֹּאכְלוּof allמִכֹּלthat isאֲשֶׁרin the waters:בַּמָּיִםeverythingכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרhasלוֹfinsסְנַפִּירand scalesוְקַשְׂקֶשֶׂתin the waters,בַּמַּיִםin the seasבַּיַּמִּיםand in the streams,וּבַנְּחָלִיםthoseאֹתָםyou may eat.תֹּאכֵלוּ
But everythingוְכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרhas noאֵין לוֹfinsסְנַפִּירand scalesוְקַשְׂקֶשֶׂתin the seasבַּיַּמִּיםand in the streams,וּבַנְּחָלִיםamong allמִכֹּלthe swarming thingsשֶׁרֶץof the watersהַמַּיִםand among allוּמִכֹּלthe livingהַחַיָּהbeingsנֶפֶשׁthat areאֲשֶׁרin the waters,בַּמָּיִםthey shall beהֵםa detestable thingשֶׁקֶץfor you.לָכֶם
They shall beוְ יִהְיוּa detestable thingשֶׁקֶץfor you;לָכֶםof their fleshמִבְּשָׂרָםyou shall notלֹאeat,תֹאכֵלוּand their carcassesוְ נִבְלָתָםyou shall hold detestable.תְּשַׁקֵּצוּ
Everythingכֹּלthatאֲשֶׁרhas noאֵין לוֹfinsסְנַפִּירand scalesוְקַשְׂקֶשֶׂתin the waters,בַּמָּיִםit shall beהוּאa detestable thingשֶׁקֶץfor you.לָכֶם
And theseוְ אֵלֶּהyou shall hold detestableתְּשַׁקְּצוּamongמִןthe birds;הָעוֹףthey shall notלֹאbe eaten;יֵאָכְלוּthey areהֵםa detestable thing:שֶׁקֶץthe eagle,הַנֶּשֶׁרthe bearded vulture,אֶת הַפֶּרֶסthe sea eagle,וְ הָעָזְנִיָּה
the kite,וְ הַדָּאָהand the falconוְ הָאַיָּהaccording to its kind,לְמִינָהּ
everyכָּלravenעֹרֵבaccording to its kind,לְמִינוֹ
the ostrich,וְ בַּת הַיַּעֲנָהthe owl,וְ הַתַּחְמָסthe gull,וְ הַשָּׁחַףand the hawkוְ הַנֵּץaccording to its kind,לְמִינֵהוּ
the horned owl,וְ הַכּוֹסthe cormorant,וְ הַשָּׁלָךְthe ibis,וְ הַיַּנְשׁוּף
the white owl,וְ הַתִּנְשֶׁמֶתthe pelican,וְ הַקָּאָתthe vulture,וְ הָרָחָם
the stork,וְ הַחֲסִידָהthe heronהָאֲנָפָהaccording to its kind,לְמִינָהּthe hoopoe,וְ הַדּוּכִיפַתand the bat.וְ הָעֲטַלֵּף
Everyכֹּלwinged insectשֶׁרֶץ הָעוֹףthat walksהַהֹלֵךְonעַלall fours,אַרְבַּעit shall beהוּאa detestable thingשֶׁקֶץfor you.לָכֶם
Butאַךְtheseזֶהyou may eatתֹּאכְלוּof allמִכֹּלthe winged insectsשֶׁרֶץ הָעוֹףthat walkהַהֹלֵךְonעַלall fours:אַרְבַּעthose thatאֲשֶׁרhaveלוֹjointed legsכְרָעַיִםaboveמִמַּעַלtheir feetלְרַגְלָיוwith which to leapלְנַתֵּר בָּהֵןonעַלthe earth.הָאָרֶץ
Theseאֵלֶּהof themמֵהֶםyou may eat:תֹּאכֵלוּthe locustהָאַרְבֶּהaccording to its kind,לְמִינוֹthe bald locustוְ הַסָּלְעָםaccording to its kind,לְמִינֵהוּthe cricketוְ הַחַרְגֹּלaccording to its kind,לְמִינֵהוּand the grasshopperוְ הֶחָגָבaccording to its kind.לְמִינֵהוּ
But every otherוְכֹלwinged insectשֶׁרֶץ הָעוֹףthatאֲשֶׁרhasלוֹfourאַרְבַּעfeet,רַגְלָיִםit shall beהוּאa detestable thingשֶׁקֶץfor you.לָכֶם
And by theseוּלְאֵלֶּהyou will become unclean;תִּטַּמָּאוּwhoeverכָּל הַtouchesנֹּגֵעַtheir carcassesבְּנִבְלָתָםwill be uncleanיִטְמָאuntilעַדthe evening.הָעָרֶב
And whoeverוְכָל הַcarriesנֹּשֵׂאany of their carcassesמִנִּבְלָתָםshall washיְכַבֵּסhis garmentsבְּגָדָיוand be uncleanוְטָמֵאuntilעַדthe evening.הָעָרֶב
Everyלְכָלbeastהַבְּהֵמָהthatאֲשֶׁר הִואdividesמַפְרֶסֶתthe hoofפַּרְסָהbut is notוְ אֵינֶנָּהsplitשֹׁסַעַתwith a cleft,שֶׁסַעand does notוְ אֵינֶנָּהchewמַעֲלָהthe cud,גֵרָהthey shall beהֵםuncleanטְמֵאִיםfor you;לָכֶםwhoeverכָּל הַtouchesנֹּגֵעַthemבָּהֶםwill be unclean.יִטְמָא
And allוְכֹלthat walkהוֹלֵךְonעַלtheir paws,כַּפָּיוamong allבְּכָלthe animalsהַחַיָּהthat walkהַהֹלֶכֶתonעַלall fours,אַרְבַּעthey shall beהֵםuncleanטְמֵאִיםfor you;לָכֶםwhoeverכָּל הַtouchesנֹּגֵעַtheir carcassesבְּנִבְלָתָםwill be uncleanיִטְמָאuntilעַדthe evening.הָעָרֶב
And whoever carriesוְהַנֹּשֵׂאtheir carcassesנִבְלָתָםshall washיְכַבֵּסhis garmentsבְּגָדָיוand be uncleanוְטָמֵאuntilעַדthe evening;הָעָרֶבthey shall beהֵמָּהuncleanטְמֵאִיםfor you.לָכֶם
And theseוְזֶהshall be uncleanהַטָּמֵאfor youלָכֶםamong the swarming thingsבַּשֶּׁרֶץthat swarmהַשֹּׁרֵץonעַלthe earth:הָאָרֶץthe weasel,הַחֹלֶדthe mouse,וְהָעַכְבָּרand the lizardוְהַצָּבaccording to its kind,לְמִינֵהוּ
the gecko,וְהָאֲנָקָהthe large lizard,וְהַכֹּחַthe wall lizard,וְהַלְּטָאָהthe sand lizard,וְהַחֹמֶטand the chameleon.וְהַתִּנְשָׁמֶת
Theseאֵלֶּהare uncleanהַטְּמֵאִיםfor youלָכֶםamong allבְּכָלthe swarming things;הַשָּׁרֶץwhoeverכָּל הַtouchesנֹּגֵעַthemבָּהֶםwhen they are deadבְּמֹתָםwill be uncleanיִטְמָאuntilעַדthe evening.הָעָרֶב
And anythingוְכֹלon whichאֲשֶׁר עָלָיוany of themמֵהֶםfallsיִפֹּלwhen they are deadבְּמֹתָםwill be unclean,יִטְמָאwhetherמִanyכָּלarticleכְּלִיof woodעֵץorאוֹgarmentבֶגֶדorאוֹskinעוֹרorאוֹsack,שָׂקanyכָּלarticleכְּלִיwith whichאֲשֶׁר בָּהֶםworkמְלָאכָהis done;יֵעָשֶׂהit shall be putיוּבָאinto water,בַּמַּיִםand it will be uncleanוְטָמֵאuntilעַדthe evening;הָעֶרֶבthen it will be clean.וְטָהֵר
And anyוְכָלearthenחֶרֶשׂvesselכְּלִיinto whichאֲשֶׁר אֶל תּוֹכוֹany of themמֵהֶםfalls,יִפֹּלwhateverכֹּל אֲשֶׁרis in itבְּתוֹכוֹwill be unclean,יִטְמָאand itוְאֹתוֹyou shall break.תִשְׁבֹּרוּ
Anyמִכָּלfoodהָאֹכֶלthatאֲשֶׁרmay be eaten,יֵאָכֵלon whichאֲשֶׁר עָלָיוwaterמַיִםcomes,יָבוֹאwill be unclean;יִטְמָאand anyוְכָלdrinkמַשְׁקֶהthatאֲשֶׁרmay be drunkיִשָּׁתֶהfrom anyבְּכָלsuch vesselכְּלִיwill be unclean.יִטְמָא
And anythingוְכֹלon whichאֲשֶׁר עָלָיוany of their carcassesמִנִּבְלָתָםfallsיִפֹּלwill be unclean;יִטְמָאan ovenתַּנּוּרor a stoveוְכִירַיִםshall be broken down;יֻתָּץthey areהֵםunclean,טְמֵאִיםand they shall beוּ יִהְיוּuncleanטְמֵאִיםfor you.לָכֶם
Butאַךְa springמַעְיָןor a cisternוּבוֹרholding a collectionמִקְוֵהof waterמַיִםshall beיִהְיֶהclean,טָהוֹרbut whoever touchesוְנֹגֵעַtheir carcassesבְּנִבְלָתָםwill be unclean.יִטְמָא
And ifוְכִיany of their carcassesמִנִּבְלָתָםfallsיִפֹּלonעַלanyכָּלseedזֶרַעfor sowingזֵרוּעַthatאֲשֶׁרis to be sown,יִזָּרֵעַit isהוּאclean.טָהוֹר
But ifוְכִיwaterמַיִםis putיֻתַּןonעַלthe seedזֶרַעand any of their carcassesמִנִּבְלָתָםfallsוְנָפַלon it,עָלָיוit shall beהוּאuncleanטָמֵאfor you.לָכֶם
And ifוְכִיone ofמִןthe beastsהַבְּהֵמָהthatאֲשֶׁר הִיאyou may haveלָכֶםfor foodלְאָכְלָהdies,יָמוּתwhoever touchesהַנֹּגֵעַits carcassבְּנִבְלָתָהּwill be uncleanיִטְמָאuntilעַדthe evening.הָעָרֶב
And whoever eatsוְהָאֹכֵלof its carcassמִנִּבְלָתָהּshall washיְכַבֵּסhis garmentsבְּגָדָיוand be uncleanוְטָמֵאuntilעַדthe evening;הָעָרֶבand whoever carriesוְהַנֹּשֵׂאits carcassנִבְלָתָהּshall washיְכַבֵּסhis garmentsבְּגָדָיוand be uncleanוְטָמֵאuntilעַדthe evening.הָעָרֶב
And everyוְכָלswarming thingהַשֶּׁרֶץthat swarmsהַשֹּׁרֵץonעַלthe earthהָאָרֶץisהוּאa detestable thing;שֶׁקֶץit shall notלֹאbe eaten.יֵאָכֵל
Whateverכֹּלgoesהוֹלֵךְonעַלits belly,גָּחוֹןand whateverוְכֹלgoesהוֹלֵךְonעַלall fours,אַרְבַּעor evenעַדwhateverכָּלhas manyמַרְבֵּהfeet,רַגְלַיִםamong allלְכָלthe swarming thingsהַשֶּׁרֶץthat swarmהַשֹּׁרֵץonעַלthe earth,הָאָרֶץyou shall notלֹאeatתֹאכְלוּthem,םforכִּיthey areהֵםa detestable thing.שֶׁקֶץ
Do notאַלmake yourselves detestableתְּשַׁקְּצוּ נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםwith anyבְּכָלswarming thingהַשֶּׁרֶץthat swarms,הַשֹּׁרֵץand do notוְלֹאmake yourselves uncleanתִטַּמְּאוּwith themבָּהֶםso that you become uncleanוְנִטְמֵתֶםby them.בָּם
ForכִּיIאֲנִיam YHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim;אֱלֹהֵיכֶםsanctify yourselvesוְהִתְקַדִּשְׁתֶּםand beוִהְיִיתֶםholy,קְדֹשִׁיםforכִּיIאָנִיam holy.קָדוֹשׁAnd do notוְלֹאmake yourselves uncleanתְטַמְּאוּ נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםwith anyבְּכָלswarming thingהַשֶּׁרֶץthat creepsהָרֹמֵשׂonעַלthe earth.הָאָרֶץ
ForכִּיIאֲנִיam YHWHיְהוָהwho brought you upהַמַּעֲלֶה אֶתְכֶםfrom the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרַיִםto beלִהְיֹתyour Elohim;לָכֶם לֵאלֹהִיםso you shall beוִהְיִיתֶםholy,קְדֹשִׁיםforכִּיIאָנִיam holy.”קָדוֹשׁ
This isזֹאתthe instructionתּוֹרַתfor the beasts,הַבְּהֵמָהand the birds,וְהָעוֹףand everyוְכֹלlivingהַחַיָּהbeingנֶפֶשׁthat movesהָרֹמֶשֶׂתin the waters,בַּמָּיִםand for everyוּלְכָלbeingנֶפֶשׁthat swarmsהַשֹּׁרֶצֶתonעַלthe earth,הָאָרֶץ
to separateלְהַבְדִּילthe uncleanבֵּין הַטָּמֵאfrom the clean,וּבֵין הַטָּהֹרand the animalוּבֵין הַחַיָּהthat may be eatenהַנֶּאֱכֶלֶתfrom the animalוּבֵין הַחַיָּהthatאֲשֶׁרmay notלֹאbe eaten.תֵאָכֵל
