YHWHיְהוָהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto Moses,אֶל מֹשֶׁהsaying,לֵּאמֹר
“Sendשְׁלַחfor yourselfלְךָmen,אֲנָשִׁיםand let them exploreוְיָתֻרוּthe landאֶת אֶרֶץof Canaan,כְּנַעַןwhichאֲשֶׁרIאֲנִיam givingנֹתֵןto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵלOne manאִישׁ אֶחָדfrom each tribeאִישׁ אֶחָד לְמַטֵּהof their fathersאֲבֹתָיyou shall send,ו תִּשְׁלָחוּevery oneכֹּלa chiefנָשִׂיאamong them.”בָהֶם
So Mosesוַ מֹשֶׁהsentיִּשְׁלַחthemאֹתָםfrom the wildernessמִמִּדְבַּרof Paranפָּארָןaccording to the commandעַל פִּיof YHWH;יְהוָהall of themכֻּלָּםwere menאֲנָשִׁיםwhoהֵמָּהwere headsרָאשֵׁיof the sonsבְנֵיof Israel.יִשְׂרָאֵל
And these areוְאֵלֶּהtheir names:שְׁמוֹתָםof the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Reuben,רְאוּבֵןShammuaשַׁמּוּעַsonבֶּןof Zaccur;זַכּוּר
of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Simeon,שִׁמְעוֹןShaphatשָׁפָטsonבֶּןof Hori;חוֹרִי
of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Judah,יְהוּדָהCalebכָּלֵבsonבֶּןof Jephunneh;יְפֻנֶּה
of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Issachar,יִשָּׂשכָרIgalיִגְאָלsonבֶּןof Joseph;יוֹסֵף
of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Ephraim,אֶפְרָיִםHosheaהוֹשֵׁעַsonבִּןof Nun;נוּן
of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Benjamin,בִנְיָמִןPaltiפַּלְטִיsonבֶּןof Raphu;רָפוּא
of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Zebulun,זְבוּלֻןGaddielגַּדִּיאֵלsonבֶּןof Sodi;סוֹדִי
of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Joseph,יוֹסֵףthat is, of the tribeלְמַטֵּהof Manasseh,מְנַשֶּׁהGaddiגַּדִּיsonבֶּןof Susi;סוּסִי

These areאֵלֶּהthe namesשְׁמוֹתof the menהָאֲנָשִׁיםwhomאֲשֶׁרMosesמֹשֶׁהsentשָׁלַחto exploreלָתוּרthe land.אֶת הָאָרֶץAnd Mosesוַ מֹשֶׁהcalledיִּקְרָאHosheaלְהוֹשֵׁעַsonבִּןof NunנוּןJoshua.יְהוֹשֻׁעַ
Mosesמֹשֶׁהsentוַיִּשְׁלַחthemאֹתָםto exploreלָתוּרthe landאֶת אֶרֶץof Canaanכְּנָעַןand saidוַיֹּאמֶרto them,אֲלֵהֶם“Go upעֲלוּthis wayזֶהinto the Negev,בַּנֶּגֶבand go upוַעֲלִיתֶםinto the hill country,אֶת הָהָר
and seeוּרְאִיתֶםthe land,אֶת הָאָרֶץwhatמַהit is like,הִואand the peopleוְאֶת הָעָםwho liveהַיֹּשֵׁבin it,עָלֶיwhether they are strongהָ הֶחָזָק הוּאor weak,הֲרָפֶהwhether they are fewהַמְעַט הוּאorאִםmany,רָב
and whatוּמָהthe landהָאָרֶץis like thatאֲשֶׁרtheyהוּאliveיֹשֵׁבin,בָּהּwhether it is goodהֲטוֹבָה הִואorאִםbad,רָעָהand whatוּמָהthe citiesהֶעָרִיםare like thatאֲשֶׁרtheyהוּאliveיוֹשֵׁבin,בָּהֵנָּהwhether in campsהַבְּמַחֲנִיםorאִםin fortifications,בְּמִבְצָרִים
and whatוּמָהthe landהָאָרֶץis like, whether it is richהַשְּׁמֵנָה הִואorאִםpoor,רָזָהwhether there areהֲיֵשׁtreesעֵץin itבָּהּorאִםnot.אַיִןBe strongוְהִתְחַזַּקְתֶּםand takeוּלְקַחְתֶּםsome of the fruitמִפְּרִיof the land.”הָאָרֶץNow the daysוְהַיָּמִיםwere the daysיְמֵיof the first ripeבִּכּוּרֵיgrapes.עֲנָבִים
So they went upוַיַּעֲלוּand exploredוַיָּתֻרוּthe landאֶת הָאָרֶץfrom the wildernessמִמִּדְבַּרof Zinצִןas far asעַדRehob,רְחֹבnear the entranceלְבֹאof Hamath.חֲמָת
They went upוַיַּעֲלוּinto the Negevבַנֶּגֶבand cameוַיָּבֹאas far asעַדHebron;חֶבְרוֹןand thereוְשָׁםwere Ahiman,אֲחִימַןSheshai,שֵׁשַׁיand Talmai,וְתַלְמַיdescendantsיְלִידֵיof Anak.הָעֲנָק(Now Hebronוְחֶבְרוֹןwas builtנִבְנְתָהsevenשֶׁבַעyearsשָׁנִיםbeforeלִפְנֵיZoanצֹעַןin Egypt.)מִצְרָיִם
And they cameוַיָּבֹאוּtoעַדthe Valleyנַחַלof Eshcolאֶשְׁכֹּלand cutוַיִּכְרְתוּfrom thereמִשָּׁםa branchזְמוֹרָהwith oneאֶחָדclusterוְאֶשְׁכּוֹלof grapes,עֲנָבִיםand they carried itוַיִּשָּׂאֻהוּon a carrying poleבַמּוֹטbetween two men,בִּשְׁנָיִםand also someוּמִןof the pomegranatesהָרִמֹּנִיםandוּמִןof the figs.הַתְּאֵנִים
Thatהַהוּאplaceלַמָּקוֹםwas calledקָרָאthe Valleyנַחַלof Eshcol,אֶשְׁכּוֹלbecauseעַל אֹדוֹתof the clusterהָאֶשְׁכּוֹלthatאֲשֶׁרthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלcutכָּרְתוּfrom there.מִשָּׁם
At the endמִקֵּץof fortyאַרְבָּעִיםdaysיוֹםthey returnedוַיָּשֻׁבוּfrom exploringמִתּוּרthe land.הָאָרֶץ
And they wentוַיֵּלְכוּand cameוַיָּבֹאוּto Mosesאֶל מֹשֶׁהandוְto Aaronאֶל אַהֲרֹןandוְto allאֶל כָּלthe communityעֲדַתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלinאֶלthe wildernessמִדְבַּרof Paran,פָּארָןat Kadesh;קָדֵשָׁהand they brought backוַיָּשִׁיבוּwordדָּבָרto themאוֹתָםandוְto allאֶת כָּלthe community,הָעֵדָהand showed themוַיַּרְאוּםthe fruitאֶת פְּרִיof the land.הָאָרֶץ
And they toldוַיְסַפְּרוּhim,לוֹand said,וַיֹּאמְרוּ“We cameבָּאנוּtoאֶלthe landהָאָרֶץto whichאֲשֶׁרyou sent us,שְׁלַחְתָּנוּand indeedוְגַםitהִואflowsזָבַתwith milkחָלָבand honey,וּדְבַשׁand this isוְזֶהits fruit.פִּרְיָהּ
Onlyאֶפֶס כִּיthe peopleהָעָםwho liveהַיֹּשֵׁבin the landבָּאָרֶץare strong,עַזand the citiesוְהֶעָרִיםare fortifiedבְּצֻרוֹתand veryמְאֹדlarge;גְּדֹלֹתand we alsoוְגַםsawרָאִינוּthe descendantsיְלִדֵיof Anakהָעֲנָקthere.שָׁם
Amalekעֲמָלֵקlivesיוֹשֵׁבin the landבְּאֶרֶץof the Negev;הַנֶּגֶבand the Hittiteוְהַחִתִּיand the Jebusiteוְהַיְבוּסִיand the Amoriteוְהָאֱמֹרִיliveיוֹשֵׁבin the hill country;בָּהָרand the Canaaniteוְהַכְּנַעֲנִיlivesיֹשֵׁבbyעַלthe seaהַיָּםandוְalongעַל יַדthe Jordan.”הַיַּרְדֵּן
But Calebכָּלֵבquietedוַיַּהַסthe peopleאֶת הָעָםbeforeאֶלMosesמֹשֶׁהand said,וַיֹּאמֶר“Let us go upנַעֲלֶהat onceעָלֹהand take possessionוְיָרַשְׁנוּof it,אֹתָהּforכִּיwe are well ableיָכוֹל נוּכַלto overcome it.”לָהּ
But the menוְהָאֲנָשִׁיםwhoאֲשֶׁרhad gone upעָלוּwith himעִמּוֹsaid,אָמְרוּ“We are notלֹאableנוּכַלto go upלַעֲלוֹתagainstאֶלthe people,הָעָםforכִּיtheyהוּאare strongerחָזָקthan we.”מִמֶּנּוּ
And they spreadוַיּוֹצִיאוּa bad reportדִּבַּתof the landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרthey had exploredתָּרוּ אֹתָהּamongאֶלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלsaying,לֵאמֹר“The landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרwe passed throughעָבַרְנוּ בָהּto explore itלָתוּר אֹתָהּisהִואa landאֶרֶץthat devoursאֹכֶלֶתits inhabitants,יוֹשְׁבֶיהָandוְallכָלthe peopleהָעָםthatאֲשֶׁרwe sawרָאִינוּin itבְתוֹכָהּare menאַנְשֵׁיof great size.מִדּוֹת
And thereוְשָׁםwe sawרָאִינוּthe Nephilimאֶת הַנְּפִילִים(the sonsבְּנֵיof Anakעֲנָקare fromמִןthe Nephilim);הַנְּפִלִיםand we wereוַנְּהִיin our own eyesבְעֵינֵינוּlike grasshoppers,כַּחֲגָבִיםand soוְכֵןwe wereהָיִינוּin their eyes.”בְּעֵינֵיהֶם
