In the firstאַחַתyearבִּשְׁנַתof Dariusלְדָרְיָוֶשׁsonבֶּןof Ahasuerus,אֲחַשְׁוֵרוֹשׁof the offspringמִזֶּרַעof the Medes,מָדָיwhoאֲשֶׁרwas made kingהָמְלַךְover the kingdomעַל מַלְכוּתof the Chaldeans,כַּשְׂדִּים
in the firstאַחַתyearבִּשְׁנַתof his reign,לְמָלְכוֹI,אֲנִיDaniel,דָּנִיֵּאלunderstoodבִּינֹתִיin the booksבַּסְּפָרִיםthe numberמִסְפַּרof the yearsהַשָּׁנִיםthat,אֲשֶׁרas the wordדְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameהָיָהto the prophetאֶל הַנָּבִיאJeremiah,יִרְמִיָהwere to be fulfilledלְמַלֹּאותfor the ruinsלְחָרְבוֹתof Jerusalem:יְרוּשָׁלִַםseventyשִׁבְעִיםyears.שָׁנָה
And I setוָאֶתְּנָהmy faceאֶת פָּנַיtoward Adonaiאֶל אֲדֹנָיElohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםto seek himלְבַקֵּשׁby prayerתְּפִלָּהand supplications,וְתַחֲנוּנִיםwith fastingבְּצוֹםand sackclothוְשַׂקand ashes.וָאֵפֶר
And I prayedוָאֶתְפַּלְלָהto YHWHלַיהוָהmy Elohimאֱלֹהַיand made confessionוָאֶתְוַדֶּהand said,וָאֹמְרָה“Please,אָנָּאAdonai,אֲדֹנָיthe greatהַגָּדוֹלand awesomeוְהַנּוֹרָאEl,הָאֵלwho keepsשֹׁמֵרthe covenantהַבְּרִיתand loyal loveוְהַחֶסֶדfor those who love himלְאֹהֲבָיוand keepוּלְשֹׁמְרֵיhis commandments,מִצְוֺתָיו
we have sinnedחָטָאנוּand done iniquity,וְעָוִינוּwe have acted wickedlyהִרְשַׁעְנוּand rebelled,וּמָרָדְנוּand turned asideוְסוֹרfrom your commandmentsמִמִּצְוֺתֶךָand from your judgments.וּמִמִּשְׁפָּטֶיךָ
And we have notוְלֹאlistenedשָׁמַעְנוּto your servantsאֶל עֲבָדֶיךָthe prophets,הַנְּבִיאִיםwhoאֲשֶׁרspokeדִּבְּרוּin your nameבְּשִׁמְךָto our kings,אֶל מְלָכֵינוּour princes,שָׂרֵינוּand our fathers,וַאֲבֹתֵינוּand to allוְאֶל כָּלthe peopleעַםof the land.הָאָרֶץ
To you,לְךָAdonai,אֲדֹנָיbelongs righteousness,הַצְּדָקָהbut to usוְלָנוּshameבֹּשֶׁתof face,הַפָּנִיםas at this day,כַּיּוֹם הַזֶּהto the menלְאִישׁof Judahיְהוּדָהand to the inhabitantsוּלְיוֹשְׁבֵיof Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםand to allוּלְכָלIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלthose nearהַקְּרֹבִיםand those far away,וְהָרְחֹקִיםin allבְּכָלthe landsהָאֲרָצוֹתwhereאֲשֶׁר שָׁםyou have driven themהִדַּחְתָּםbecause of their unfaithfulnessבְּמַעֲלָםthatאֲשֶׁרthey have committedמָעֲלוּagainst you.בָךְ
YHWH,יְהוָהto us belongsלָנוּshameבֹּשֶׁתof face,הַפָּנִיםto our kings,לִמְלָכֵינוּto our princes,לְשָׂרֵינוּand to our fathers,וְלַאֲבֹתֵינוּbecauseאֲשֶׁרwe have sinnedחָטָאנוּagainst you.לָךְ
To Adonaiלַאדֹנָיour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּbelong compassionהָרַחֲמִיםand forgiveness,וְהַסְּלִחוֹתforכִּיwe have rebelledמָרַדְנוּagainst him,בּוֹ
and we have notוְלֹאlistenedשָׁמַעְנוּto the voiceבְּקוֹלof YHWHיְהוָהour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּto walkלָלֶכֶתin his laws,בְּתוֹרֹתָיוwhichאֲשֶׁרhe setנָתַןbefore usלְפָנֵינוּby the handבְּיַדof his servantsעֲבָדָיוthe prophets.הַנְּבִיאִים
And allוְכָלIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלhas transgressedעָבְרוּyour lawאֶת תּוֹרָתֶךָand turned aside,וְסוֹרso as notלְבִלְתִּיto listenשְׁמוֹעַto your voice;בְּקֹלֶךָand there has been poured outוַתִּתַּךְon usעָלֵינוּthe curseהָאָלָהand the oathוְהַשְּׁבֻעָהthatאֲשֶׁרis writtenכְּתוּבָהin the lawבְּתוֹרַתof Moses,מֹשֶׁהthe servantעֶבֶדof Elohim,הָאֱלֹהִיםbecauseכִּיwe have sinnedחָטָאנוּagainst him.לוֹ
And he has carried outוַיָּקֶםhis wordאֶת דְּבָרוֹthatאֲשֶׁרhe spokeדִּבֶּרagainst usעָלֵינוּand against our judgesוְעַל שֹׁפְטֵינוּwhoאֲשֶׁרjudged us,שְׁפָטוּנוּby bringingלְהָבִיאon usעָלֵינוּa greatגְדֹלָהevil;רָעָהforאֲשֶׁרthere has notלֹאbeen doneנֶעֶשְׂתָהunderתַּחַתallכָּלthe heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםanything like whatכַּאֲשֶׁרhas been doneנֶעֶשְׂתָהin Jerusalem.בִּירוּשָׁלִָם
Asכַּאֲשֶׁרit is writtenכָּתוּבin the lawבְּתוֹרַתof Moses,מֹשֶׁהallאֵת כָּלthisהַזֹּאתevilהָרָעָהhas comeבָּאָהon us;עָלֵינוּyet we have notוְלֹאsought the favorחִלִּינוּ אֶת פְּנֵיof YHWHיְהוָהour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּturningלָשׁוּבfrom our iniquitiesמֵעֲוֺנֵנוּand gaining insightוּלְהַשְׂכִּילin your truth.בַּאֲמִתֶּךָ
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהkept watchיִּשְׁקֹדover the evilעַל הָרָעָהand brought itוַיְבִיאֶהָon us;עָלֵינוּforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּis righteousצַדִּיקin allעַל כָּלhis worksמַעֲשָׂיוthatאֲשֶׁרhe has done,עָשָׂהand we have notוְלֹאlistenedשָׁמַעְנוּto his voice.בְּקֹלוֹ
And now,וְעַתָּהAdonaiאֲדֹנָיour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּwhoאֲשֶׁרbroughtהוֹצֵאתָyour peopleאֶת עַמְּךָout of the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרַיִםwith a strongחֲזָקָהhandבְּיָדand madeוַתַּעַשׂyourselfלְךָa name,שֵׁםas at this day,כַּיּוֹם הַזֶּהwe have sinned,חָטָאנוּwe have acted wickedly.רָשָׁעְנוּ
Adonai,אֲדֹנָיaccording to allכְּכָלyour righteous acts,צִדְקֹתֶךָlet your angerאַפְּךָand your furyוַחֲמָתְךָturn away,יָשָׁבplease,נָאfrom your cityמֵעִירְךָJerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִַםyour holyקָדְשֶׁךָmountain;הַרforכִּיbecause of our sinsבַחֲטָאֵינוּand the iniquitiesוּבַעֲוֺנוֹתof our fathers,אֲבֹתֵינוּJerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםand your peopleוְעַמְּךָhave become a reproachלְחֶרְפָּהto allלְכָלwho are around us.סְבִיבֹתֵינוּ
And now,וְעַתָּהlisten,שְׁמַעour Elohim,אֱלֹהֵינוּto the prayerאֶל תְּפִלַּתof your servantעַבְדְּךָand to his supplications,וְאֶל תַּחֲנוּנָיוand makeוְyour faceפָּנֶיךָshineהָאֵרon your sanctuaryעַל מִקְדָּשְׁךָthat is desolate,הַשָּׁמֵםfor the sakeלְמַעַןof Adonai.אֲדֹנָי
Incline,הַטֵּהmy Elohim,אֱלֹהַיyour earאָזְנְךָand hear;וּשֲׁמָעopenפְּקַחyour eyesעֵינֶיךָand seeוּרְאֵהour desolationsשֹׁמְמֹתֵינוּand the cityוְהָעִירover whichאֲשֶׁר עָלֶיהָyour nameשִׁמְךָis called;נִקְרָאforכִּיnotלֹאbecause of our righteous actsעַל צִדְקֹתֵינוּdo weאֲנַחְנוּpresentמַפִּילִיםour supplicationsתַּחֲנוּנֵינוּbefore you,לְפָנֶיךָbutכִּיbecause of your greatעַל הָרַבִּיםcompassion.רַחֲמֶיךָ
Adonai,אֲדֹנָיhear!שְׁמָעָהAdonai,אֲדֹנָיforgive!סְלָחָהAdonai,אֲדֹנָיpay attentionהַקֲשִׁיבָהand act;וַעֲשֵׂהdo notאַלdelay,תְּאַחַרfor your own sake,לְמַעֲנְךָmy Elohim,אֱלֹהַיbecauseכִּיyour nameשִׁמְךָis calledנִקְרָאover your cityעַל עִירְךָand over your people.”וְעַל עַמֶּךָ
And while I was stillוְעוֹד אֲנִיspeakingמְדַבֵּרand prayingוּמִתְפַּלֵּלand confessingוּמִתְוַדֶּהmy sinחַטָּאתִיand the sinוְחַטַּאתof my peopleעַמִּיIsrael,יִשְׂרָאֵלand presentingוּמַפִּילmy supplicationתְּחִנָּתִיbeforeלִפְנֵיYHWHיְהוָהmy Elohimאֱלֹהַיfor the holyעַל קֹדֶשׁmountainהַרof my Elohim,אֱלֹהָי
while I was stillוְעוֹד אֲנִיspeakingמְדַבֵּרin prayer,בַּתְּפִלָּהthe manוְהָאִישׁGabriel,גַּבְרִיאֵלwhomאֲשֶׁרI had seenרָאִיתִיin the visionבֶחָזוֹןat the first,בַּתְּחִלָּהflyingמֻעָףswiftly,בִּיעָףtouchedנֹגֵעַmeאֵלַיabout the timeכְּעֵתof the eveningעָרֶבoffering.מִנְחַת
And he made me understandוַיָּבֶןand spokeוַיְדַבֵּרwith meעִמִּיand said,וַיֹּאמַר“Daniel,דָּנִיֵּאלnowעַתָּהI have come outיָצָאתִיto give you insightלְהַשְׂכִּילְךָand understanding.בִינָה
At the beginningבִּתְחִלַּתof your supplicationsתַּחֲנוּנֶיךָa wordדָבָרwent out,יָצָאand Iוַאֲנִיhave comeבָּאתִיto declare it,לְהַגִּידforכִּיyouאָתָּהare greatly loved;חֲמוּדוֹתso understandוּבִיןthe wordבַּדָּבָרand comprehendוְהָבֵןthe vision.בַּמַּרְאֶה
Seventyשִׁבְעִיםweeksשָׁבֻעִיםare decreedנֶחְתַּךְconcerning your peopleעַל עַמְּךָand concerningוְעַלyour holyקָדְשֶׁךָcity,עִירto finishלְכַלֵּאthe transgression,הַפֶּשַׁעand to put an end to sin,וּלְהָתֵם חַטָּאתand to make expiationוּלְכַפֵּרfor iniquity,עָוֺןand to bring inוּלְהָבִיאeternalעֹלָמִיםrighteousness,צֶדֶקand to seal upוְלַחְתֹּםvisionחָזוֹןand prophet,וְנָבִיאand to anointוְלִמְשֹׁחַa most holy place.קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים
So knowוְתֵדַעand understand:וְתַשְׂכֵּלfrom the going outמִן מֹצָאof a wordדָבָרto restoreלְהָשִׁיבand to buildוְלִבְנוֹתJerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםuntil an Anointed One,עַד מָשִׁיחַa Leader,נָגִידthere will be sevenשִׁבְעָהweeks;שָׁבֻעִיםand for sixtyוְ שִׁשִּׁיםand twoוּשְׁנַיִםweeksשָׁבֻעִיםit will again be built,תָּשׁוּב וְנִבְנְתָהwith plazaרְחוֹבand moat,וְחָרוּץbut in the distressוּבְצוֹקof the times.הָעִתִּים
And afterוְאַחֲרֵיthe sixtyשִׁשִּׁיםand twoוּשְׁנַיִםweeksהַשָּׁבֻעִיםan Anointed Oneמָשִׁיחַwill be cut offיִכָּרֵתand will have nothing;וְאֵין לוֹand the peopleוְ עַםof a leaderנָגִידwho is to comeהַבָּאwill destroyיַשְׁחִיתthe cityהָעִירand the holy place;וְהַקֹּדֶשׁand its endוְקִצּוֹwill come with a flood,בַשֶּׁטֶףand until the endוְעַד קֵץthere will be war;מִלְחָמָהdesolationsשֹׁמֵמוֹתare decreed.נֶחֱרֶצֶת
And he will make strongוְהִגְבִּירa covenantבְּרִיתwith the manyלָרַבִּיםfor oneאֶחָדweek;שָׁבוּעַand in the middleוַחֲצִיof the weekהַשָּׁבוּעַhe will makeיַשְׁבִּיתsacrificeזֶבַחand offeringוּמִנְחָהcease;יַשְׁבִּיתand on the wingוְעַל כְּנַףof detestable thingsשִׁקּוּצִיםwill come one who makes desolate,מְשֹׁמֵםeven untilוְעַדthe complete destructionכָּלָהthat is decreedוְנֶחֱרָצָהis poured outתִּתַּךְon the one who makes desolate.”עַל שֹׁמֵם
