Then we turnedוַנֵּפֶןand set outוַנִּסַּעfor the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּרָהby the wayדֶּרֶךְof the Seaיַםof Reeds,סוּףasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad spokenדִּבֶּרto me,אֵלָיand we went aroundוַנָּסָבMountאֶת הַרSeirשֵׂעִירmanyרַבִּיםdays.יָמִים
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto me,אֵלַי
“You have gone aroundלָכֶם סֹבthisהַזֶּהmountainאֶת הָהָרlong enough.רַבTurnפְּנוּ לָכֶםnorth.צָפֹנָה
And commandוְ צַוthe people,אֶת הָעָםsaying,לֵאמֹר‘Youאַתֶּםare about to passעֹבְרִיםthrough the territoryבִּגְבוּלof your brothers,אֲחֵיכֶםthe sonsבְּנֵיof Esau,עֵשָׂוwho liveהַיֹּשְׁבִיםin Seir,בְּשֵׂעִירand they will be afraidוְיִירְאוּof you.מִכֶּםSo guard yourselvesוְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּםcarefully:מְאֹד
do notאַלprovokeתִּתְגָּרוּthem,בָםforכִּיI will notלֹאgiveאֶתֵּןyouלָכֶםany of their land,מֵאַרְצָםnot evenעַדthe treadingמִדְרַךְof the soleכַּףof a foot,רָגֶלbecauseכִּיI have givenנָתַתִּיMountאֶת הַרSeirשֵׂעִירto Esauלְעֵשָׂוas a possession.יְרֻשָּׁה
Foodאֹכֶלyou shall buyתִּשְׁבְּרוּfrom themמֵאִתָּםfor silver,בַּכֶּסֶףand eat;וַאֲכַלְתֶּםand alsoוְגַםwaterמַיִםyou shall acquireתִּכְרוּfrom themמֵאִתָּםfor silver,בַּכֶּסֶףand drink.’וּשְׁתִיתֶם
ForכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָhas blessed youבֵּרַכְךָin allבְּכֹלthe workמַעֲשֵׂהof your hand.יָדֶךָHe knowsיָדַעyour goingלֶכְתְּךָthrough thisאֶת הַזֶּהgreatהַגָּדֹלwilderness.הַמִּדְבָּרTheseזֶהfortyאַרְבָּעִיםyearsשָׁנָהYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָhas been with you;עִמָּךְyou have lackedחָסַרְתָּnothing.”לֹא דָּבָר
So we passed by,וַנַּעֲבֹרaway fromמֵאֵתour brothers,אַחֵינוּthe sonsבְנֵיof Esau,עֵשָׂוwho liveהַיֹּשְׁבִיםin Seir,בְּשֵׂעִירaway fromמִthe wayדֶּרֶךְof the Arabah,הָעֲרָבָהfrom Elathמֵאֵילַתand fromוּמֵEzion-geber.עֶצְיֹן גָּבֶרAnd we turnedוַנֵּפֶןand passedוַנַּעֲבֹרby the wayדֶּרֶךְof the wildernessמִדְבַּרof Moab.מוֹאָב
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto me,אֵלַי“Do notאֶלharassתָּצַרMoabאֶת מוֹאָבorוְאַלprovokeתִּתְגָּרthemבָּםto war,מִלְחָמָהforכִּיI will notלֹאgiveאֶתֵּןyouלְךָany of its landמֵאַרְצוֹas a possession,יְרֻשָּׁהbecauseכִּיI have givenנָתַתִּיArאֶת עָרto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Lotלוֹטas a possession.”יְרֻשָּׁה
(The Emimהָאֵמִיםlivedיָשְׁבוּthereבָהּformerly,לְפָנִיםa peopleעַםgreat,גָּדוֹלnumerous,וְרַבand tallוָרָםlike the Anakim.כָּעֲנָקִים
They tooאַף הֵםwere countedיֵחָשְׁבוּas Rephaim,רְפָאִיםlike the Anakim,כָּעֲנָקִיםbut the MoabitesוְהַמֹּאָבִיםcallיִקְרְאוּthemלָהֶםEmim.אֵמִים
In Seirוּבְשֵׂעִירthe Horitesהַחֹרִיםlivedיָשְׁבוּformerly,לְפָנִיםbut the sonsוּבְנֵיof Esauעֵשָׂוdispossessed themיִירָשׁוּםand destroyed themוַיַּשְׁמִידוּםfrom before themמִפְּנֵיהֶםand livedוַיֵּשְׁבוּin their place,תַּחְתָּםjust asכַּאֲשֶׁרIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵלdidעָשָׂהto the landלְאֶרֶץof its possession,יְרֻשָּׁתוֹwhichאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהgaveנָתַןthem.)לָהֶם
“Nowעַתָּהrise upקֻמוּand crossוְעִבְרוּ לָכֶםthe Wadiאֶת נַחַלZered.”זָרֶדSo we crossedוַנַּעֲבֹרthe Wadiאֶת נַחַלZered.זָרֶד
The daysוְהַיָּמִיםthatאֲשֶׁרwe traveledהָלַכְנוּfrom Kadesh-barneaמִקָּדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַuntilעַד אֲשֶׁרwe crossedעָבַרְנוּthe Wadiאֶת נַחַלZeredזֶרֶדwere thirty-eightשְׁלֹשִׁים וּשְׁמֹנֶהyears,שָׁנָהuntilעַדthe wholeכָּלgeneration,הַדּוֹרthe menאַנְשֵׁיof war,הַמִּלְחָמָהhad come to an endתֹּםfrom the midstמִקֶּרֶבof the camp,הַמַּחֲנֶהasכַּאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהhad swornנִשְׁבַּעto them.לָהֶם
Alsoוְגַםthe handיַדof YHWHיְהוָהwasהָיְתָהagainst themבָּםto throw them into confusionלְהֻמָּםfrom the midstמִקֶּרֶבof the camp,הַמַּחֲנֶהuntilעַדthey were finished.תֻּמָּם
Whenוַיְהִי כַאֲשֶׁרallכָּלthe menאַנְשֵׁיof warהַמִּלְחָמָהhad finishedתַּמּוּdyingלָמוּתfrom amongמִקֶּרֶבthe people,הָעָם
YHWHיְהוָהspokeוַיְדַבֵּרto me,אֵלַיsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Youאַתָּהare passingעֹבֵרtodayהַיּוֹםthrough the territoryאֶת גְּבוּלof Moab,מוֹאָבthrough Ar,אֶת עָר
and you will come nearוְקָרַבְתָּoppositeמוּלthe sonsבְּנֵיof Ammon.עַמּוֹןDo notאַלharass themתְּצֻרֵםorוְאַלprovokeתִּתְגָּרthem,בָּםforכִּיI will notלֹאgiveאֶתֵּןyouלְךָany of the landמֵאֶרֶץof the sonsבְּנֵיof Ammonעַמּוֹןas a possession,יְרֻשָּׁהbecauseכִּיI have given itנְתַתִּיהָto the sonsלִבְנֵיof Lotלוֹטas a possession.”יְרֻשָּׁה

just asכַּאֲשֶׁרhe didעָשָׂהfor the sonsלִבְנֵיof Esau,עֵשָׂוwho liveהַיֹּשְׁבִיםin Seir,בְּשֵׂעִירwhenאֲשֶׁרhe destroyedהִשְׁמִידthe Horiteאֶת הַחֹרִיfrom before them;מִפְּנֵיהֶםthey dispossessed themוַיִּירָשֻׁםand have livedוַיֵּשְׁבוּin their placeתַחְתָּםtoעַדthisהַזֶּהday.הַיּוֹם
As for the Avvim,וְהָעַוִּיםwho livedהַיֹּשְׁבִיםin villagesבַּחֲצֵרִיםas far asעַדGaza,עַזָּהthe Caphtorim,כַּפְתֹּרִיםwho came outהַיֹּצְאִיםof Caphtor,מִכַּפְתּוֹרdestroyed themהִשְׁמִידֻםand livedוַיֵּשְׁבוּin their place.)תַחְתָּם
“Rise up,קוּמוּset out,סְּעוּand crossוְעִבְרוּthe Wadiאֶת נַחַלArnon.אַרְנֹןSee,רְאֵהI have givenנָתַתִּיinto your handבְיָדְךָSihon,אֶת סִיחֹןthe Amorite,הָאֱמֹרִיkingמֶלֶךְof Heshbon,חֶשְׁבּוֹןand his land.וְאֶת אַרְצוֹBeginהָחֵלto take possession,רָשׁand provokeוְהִתְגָּרhimבּוֹto war.מִלְחָמָה
ThisהַזֶּהdayהַיּוֹםI will beginאָחֵלto putתֵּתthe dread of youפַּחְדְּךָand the fear of youוְיִרְאָתְךָonעַלthe faceפְּנֵיof the peoplesהָעַמִּיםunderתַּחַתallכָּלthe heavens,הַשָּׁמָיִםwhoאֲשֶׁרwill hearיִשְׁמְעוּןthe report of youשִׁמְעֲךָand trembleוְרָגְזוּand be in anguishוְחָלוּbecause of you.”מִפָּנֶיךָ
So I sentוָאֶשְׁלַחmessengersמַלְאָכִיםfrom the wildernessמִמִּדְבַּרof KedemothקְדֵמוֹתtoאֶלSihonסִיחוֹןkingמֶלֶךְof Heshbonחֶשְׁבּוֹןwith wordsדִּבְרֵיof peace,שָׁלוֹםsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Let me passאֶעְבְּרָהthrough your land.בְאַרְצֶךָBy the road,בַּדֶּרֶךְby the roadבַּדֶּרֶךְI will go;אֵלֵךְI will notלֹאturn asideאָסוּרto the rightיָמִיןor to the left.וּשְׂמֹאול
Foodאֹכֶלfor silverבַּכֶּסֶףyou will sell me,תַּשְׁבִּרֵנִיand I will eat;וְאָכַלְתִּיand waterוּמַיִםfor silverבַּכֶּסֶףyou will giveתִּתֶּןme,לִיand I will drink.וְשָׁתִיתִיOnlyרַקlet me pass throughאֶעְבְּרָהon foot,בְרַגְלָי
just asכַּאֲשֶׁרthe sonsבְּנֵיof Esauעֵשָׂוwho liveהַיֹּשְׁבִיםin Seirבְּשֵׂעִירand the Moabitesוְהַמּוֹאָבִיםwho liveהַיֹּשְׁבִיםin Arבְּעָרdidעָשׂוּfor me,לִיuntilעַד אֲשֶׁרI crossאֶעֱבֹרthe Jordanאֶת הַיַּרְדֵּןintoאֶלthe landהָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּis givingנֹתֵןus.”לָנוּ
But Sihonוְ סִיחֹןkingמֶלֶךְof Heshbonחֶשְׁבּוֹןwas notלֹאwillingאָבָהto let us passהַעֲבִרֵנוּby him,בּוֹforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohimאֱלֹהֶיךָhad hardenedהִקְשָׁהhis spiritאֶת רוּחוֹand made firmוְאִמֵּץhis heart,אֶת לְבָבוֹin order toלְמַעַןgive himתִּתּוֹinto your hand,בְיָדְךָas it is thisכַּ הַזֶּהday.יּוֹם
YHWHיְהוָהsaidוַיֹּאמֶרto me,אֵלַי“See,רְאֵהI have begunהַחִלֹּתִיto deliverתֵּתSihonאֶת סִיחֹןand his landוְאֶת אַרְצוֹbefore you.לְפָנֶיךָBeginהָחֵלto take possession,רָשׁso as to take possession ofלָרֶשֶׁתhis land.”אֶת אַרְצוֹ
Sihonסִיחֹןcame outוַיֵּצֵאto meet us,לִקְרָאתֵנוּheהוּאand allוְכָלhis people,עַמּוֹfor warלַמִּלְחָמָהat Jahaz.יָהְצָה
And YHWHוַ יְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּdelivered himיִּתְּנֵהוּbefore us,לְפָנֵינוּand we struckוַנַּךְhimאֹתוֹand his sonsוְאֶת בָּנָיוand allוְאֶת כָּלhis people.עַמּוֹ
We capturedוַנִּלְכֹּדallאֶת כָּלhis citiesעָרָיוat that timeבָּעֵת הַהִואand devoted to destructionוַנַּחֲרֵםeveryאֶת כָּלcity:עִירmen,מְתִםwomen,וְהַנָּשִׁיםand little ones;וְהַטָּףwe leftהִשְׁאַרְנוּnoלֹאsurvivor.שָׂרִיד
Onlyרַקthe livestockהַבְּהֵמָהwe took as plunderבָּזַזְנוּfor ourselves,לָנוּand the spoilוּשְׁלַלof the citiesהֶעָרִיםthatאֲשֶׁרwe had captured.לָכָדְנוּ
From Aroer,מֵעֲרֹעֵרwhichאֲשֶׁרis onעַלthe edgeשְׂפַתof the WadiנַחַלArnon,אַרְנֹןand the cityוְהָעִירthatאֲשֶׁרis in the wadi,בַּנַּחַלas far asוְעַדGilead,הַגִּלְעָדthere wasהָיְתָהnotלֹאa townקִרְיָהthatאֲשֶׁרwas too highשָׂגְבָהfor us;מִמֶּנּוּYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּdeliveredנָתַןall of themאֶת הַכֹּלbefore us.לְפָנֵינוּ
Onlyרַקtoאֶלthe landאֶרֶץof the sonsבְּנֵיof Ammonעַמּוֹןyou did notלֹאcome near,קָרָבְתָּallכָּלthe bankיַדof the WadiנַחַלJabbok,יַבֹּקand the citiesוְעָרֵיof the hill country,הָהָרand allוְכֹלthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהour Elohimאֱלֹהֵינוּhad commanded.צִוָּה
