And it came to passוַיְהִיin the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִיתyear,בַּשָּׁנָהin the fifth month,בַּחֲמִשִׁיon the tenthבֶּעָשׂוֹרof the month,לַחֹדֶשׁthat menאֲנָשִׁיםof the eldersמִזִּקְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלcameבָּאוּto consultלִדְרֹשׁYHWH,אֶת יְהוָהand they satוַיֵּשְׁבוּbefore me.לְפָנָי
And the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיto me,אֵלַיsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Sonבֶּןof man,אָדָםspeakדַּבֵּרto the eldersאֶת זִקְנֵיof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand sayוְאָמַרְתָּto them,אֲלֵהֶם‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִהIs it to consultהֲלִדְרֹשׁmeאֹתִיthat youאַתֶּםcome?בָּאִיםAs I live,חַי אָנִיI will surely notאִםlet myself be consultedאִדָּרֵשׁby you,לָכֶםdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.’יְהוִה
Will you judgeהֲתִשְׁפֹּטthem?אֹתָםWill you judge,הֲתִשְׁפּוֹטsonבֶּןof man?אָדָםMake knownהוֹדִיעֵto themםthe abominationsאֶת תּוֹעֲבֹתof their fathers,אֲבוֹתָם
and sayוְאָמַרְתָּto them,אֲלֵיהֶם‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִהOn the dayבְּיוֹםI choseבָּחֳרִיIsrael,בְיִשְׂרָאֵלI raisedוָאֶשָּׂאmy handיָדִיto the offspringלְזֶרַעof the houseבֵּיתof Jacob,יַעֲקֹבand made myself knownוָאִוָּדַעto themלָהֶםin the landבְּאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרָיִםand I raisedוָאֶשָּׂאmy handיָדִיto them,לָהֶםsaying,לֵאמֹרI amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim;אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
on thatבַּ הַהוּאdayיּוֹםI raisedנָשָׂאתִיmy handיָדִיto themלָהֶםto bring them outלְהוֹצִיאָםof the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרָיִםinto a landאֶל אֶרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI had searched outתַּרְתִּיfor them,לָהֶםflowingזָבַתwith milkחָלָבand honey,וּדְבַשׁitהִיאis the jewelצְבִיof allלְכָלthe lands.הָאֲרָצוֹת
And I saidוָאֹמַרto them,אֲלֵהֶםEach of you,אִישׁcast awayהַשְׁלִיכוּthe detestable thingsשִׁקּוּצֵיof his eyes,עֵינָיוand do notוּ אַלdefile yourselvesתִּטַּמָּאוּwith the idolsבְגִלּוּלֵיof Egypt;מִצְרַיִםI amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
But they rebelledוַיַּמְרוּagainst meבִיand were notוְלֹאwillingאָבוּto listenלִּשְׁמֹעַto me;אֵלַיthey did notלֹאeachאִישׁcast awayהִשְׁלִיכוּthe detestable thingsאֶת שִׁקּוּצֵיof their eyes,עֵינֵיהֶםnorוְ לֹאforsakeעָזָבוּthe idolsאֶת גִּלּוּלֵיof Egypt.מִצְרַיִםAnd I saidוָאֹמַרthat I would pour outלִשְׁפֹּךְmy furyחֲמָתִיon themעֲלֵיהֶםto spendלְכַלּוֹתmy angerאַפִּיon themבָּהֶםin the midstבְּתוֹךְof the landאֶרֶץof Egypt.מִצְרָיִם
But I actedוָאַעַשׂfor the sake ofלְמַעַןmy name,שְׁמִיthat it should notלְבִלְתִּיbe profanedהֵחֵלin the eyesלְעֵינֵיof the nationsהַגּוֹיִםamong whomאֲשֶׁר בְתוֹכָםthey were,הֵמָּהin whose eyesאֲשֶׁר לְעֵינֵיהֶםI made myself knownנוֹדַעְתִּיto themאֲלֵיהֶםby bringing them outלְהוֹצִיאָםof the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egypt.מִצְרָיִם
And I brought them outוָאוֹצִיאֵםof the landמֵאֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרָיִםand brought themוָאֲבִאֵםinto the wilderness.אֶל הַמִּדְבָּר
And I gaveוָאֶתֵּןthemלָהֶםmy statutes,אֶת חֻקּוֹתַיand my rulesוְאֶת מִשְׁפָּטַיI made knownהוֹדַעְתִּיto them,אוֹתָםwhichאֲשֶׁרif a human beingהָאָדָםdoesיַעֲשֶׂהthem,אוֹתָםhe will liveוָחַיby them.בָּהֶם
And alsoוְגַםmy Sabbathsאֶת שַׁבְּתוֹתַיI gaveנָתַתִּיthem,לָהֶםto beלִהְיוֹתa signלְאוֹתbetween meבֵּינִיand them,וּבֵינֵיהֶםthat they might knowלָדַעַתthatכִּיI amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהwho sanctifies them.מְקַדְּשָׁם
But the houseוַ בֵיתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלrebelledיַּמְרוּagainst meבִיin the wilderness;בַּמִּדְבָּרin my statutesבְּחֻקּוֹתַיthey did notלֹאwalk,הָלָכוּand my rulesוְאֶת מִשְׁפָּטַיthey rejected,מָאָסוּwhichאֲשֶׁרif a human beingהָאָדָםdoesיַעֲשֶׂהthem,אֹתָםhe will liveוָחַיby them;בָּהֶםand my Sabbathsוְאֶת שַׁבְּתֹתַיthey profanedחִלְּלוּgreatly.מְאֹדAnd I saidוָאֹמַרthat I would pour outלִשְׁפֹּךְmy furyחֲמָתִיon themעֲלֵיהֶםin the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּרto make an end of them.לְכַלּוֹתָם
But I actedוָאֶעֱשֶׂהfor the sake ofלְמַעַןmy name,שְׁמִיthat it should notלְבִלְתִּיbe profanedהֵחֵלin the eyesלְעֵינֵיof the nationsהַגּוֹיִםin whose eyesאֲשֶׁר לְעֵינֵיהֶםI had brought them out.הוֹצֵאתִים
And I alsoוְגַם אֲנִיraisedנָשָׂאתִיmy handיָדִיto themלָהֶםin the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּרthat I would notלְבִלְתִּיbringהָבִיאthemאוֹתָםinto the landאֶל הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI had given,נָתַתִּיflowingזָבַתwith milkחָלָבand honey,וּדְבַשׁitהִיאis the jewelצְבִיof allלְכָלthe lands,הָאֲרָצוֹת
becauseיַעַןmy rulesבְּמִשְׁפָּטַיthey rejected,מָאָסוּand in my statutesוְאֶת חֻקּוֹתַיthey did notלֹאwalk,הָלְכוּ בָהֶםand my Sabbathsוְאֶת שַׁבְּתוֹתַיthey profaned;חִלֵּלוּforכִּיafterאַחֲרֵיtheir idolsגִלּוּלֵיהֶםtheir heartלִבָּםwent.הֹלֵךְ
Yet my eyeוַ עֵינִיpitiedתָּחָסthemעֲלֵיהֶםso as not to destroy them,מִשַּׁחֲתָםand I did notוְלֹאmakeעָשִׂיתִיa total destructionכָּלָהof themאוֹתָםin the wilderness.בַּמִּדְבָּר
And I saidוָאֹמַרto their sonsאֶל בְּנֵיהֶםin the wilderness,בַּמִּדְבָּרIn the statutesבְּחוּקֵּיof your fathersאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםdo notאַלwalk,תֵּלֵכוּand their rulesוְאֶת מִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶםdo notאַלkeep,תִּשְׁמֹרוּand with their idolsוּבְגִלּוּלֵיהֶםdo notאַלdefile yourselves.תִּטַּמָּאוּ
I amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim;אֱלֹהֵיכֶםin my statutesבְּחֻקּוֹתַיwalk,לֵכוּand my rulesוְאֶת מִשְׁפָּטַיkeep,שִׁמְרוּand doוַעֲשׂוּthem;אוֹתָם
and my Sabbathsוְאֶת שַׁבְּתוֹתַיkeep holy,קַדֵּשׁוּand they will beוְהָיוּa signלְאוֹתbetween meבֵּינִיand you,וּבֵינֵיכֶםthat you may knowלָדַעַתthatכִּיI amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהyour Elohim.אֱלֹהֵיכֶם
But the sonsהַבָּנִיםrebelledוַיַּמְרוּagainst me;בִיin my statutesבְּחֻקּוֹתַיthey did notלֹאwalk,הָלָכוּand my rulesוְאֶת מִשְׁפָּטַיthey did notלֹאkeepשָׁמְרוּto doלַעֲשׂוֹתthem,אוֹתָםwhichאֲשֶׁרif a human beingהָאָדָםdoesיַעֲשֶׂהthem,אוֹתָםhe will liveוָחַיby them;בָּהֶםmy Sabbathsאֶת שַׁבְּתוֹתַיthey profaned.חִלֵּלוּAnd I saidוָאֹמַרthat I would pour outלִשְׁפֹּךְmy furyחֲמָתִיon themעֲלֵיהֶםto spendלְכַלּוֹתmy angerאַפִּיon themבָּםin the wilderness.בַּמִּדְבָּר
But I withdrewוַהֲשִׁבֹתִיmy handאֶת יָדִיand actedוָאַעַשׂfor the sake ofלְמַעַןmy name,שְׁמִיthat it should notלְבִלְתִּיbe profanedהֵחֵלin the eyesלְעֵינֵיof the nationsהַגּוֹיִםin whose eyesאֲשֶׁר לְעֵינֵיהֶםI had brought them out.הוֹצֵאתִי אוֹתָם
I alsoגַּם אֲנִיraisedנָשָׂאתִיmy handאֶת יָדִיto themלָהֶםin the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּרthat I would scatterלְהָפִיץthemאֹתָםamong the nationsבַּגּוֹיִםand disperseוּלְזָרוֹתthemאוֹתָםthrough the lands,בָּאֲרָצוֹת
becauseיַעַןmy rulesמִשְׁפָּטַיthey had notלֹאdone,עָשׂוּand my statutesוְחֻקּוֹתַיthey had rejected,מָאָסוּand my Sabbathsוְאֶת שַׁבְּתוֹתַיthey had profaned,חִלֵּלוּand afterוְאַחֲרֵיthe idolsגִּלּוּלֵיof their fathersאֲבוֹתָםwereהָיוּtheir eyes.עֵינֵיהֶם
And I alsoוְגַם אֲנִיgaveנָתַתִּיthemלָהֶםstatutesחֻקִּיםthat were notלֹאgoodטוֹבִיםand rulesוּמִשְׁפָּטִיםby whichבָּהֶםthey could notלֹאlive,יִחְיוּ
and I defiledוָאֲטַמֵּאthemאוֹתָםthrough their gifts,בְּמַתְּנוֹתָםin their making passבְּהַעֲבִירeveryכָּלfirstbornפֶּטֶרof the womb,רָחַםso thatלְמַעַןI might devastate them,אֲשִׁמֵּםso thatלְמַעַן אֲשֶׁרthey might knowיֵדְעוּthatאֲשֶׁרI amאֲנִיYHWH.’יְהוָה
Thereforeלָכֵןspeakדַּבֵּרto the houseאֶל בֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלsonבֶּןof man,אָדָםand sayוְאָמַרְתָּto them,אֲלֵיהֶם‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִהIn thisזֹאתalsoעוֹדyour fathersאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםreviledגִּדְּפוּme,אוֹתִיin committingבְּמַעֲלָםa breach of faithמָעַלagainst me.בִּי
When I brought themוָאֲבִיאֵםinto the landאֶל הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI had raisedנָשָׂאתִיmy handאֶת יָדִיto giveלָתֵתitאוֹתָהּto them,לָהֶםthey sawוַיִּרְאוּeveryכָלhighרָמָהhillגִּבְעָהand everyוְכָלthickעָבֹתtree,עֵץand thereשָׁםthey offeredוַיִּזְבְּחוּtheir sacrifices,אֶת זִבְחֵיהֶםand thereשָׁםthey presentedוַיִּתְּנוּthe provocationכַּעַסof their offering,קָרְבָּנָםand thereשָׁםthey setוַיָּשִׂימוּtheir pleasingנִיחוֹחֵיהֶםaromas,רֵיחַand thereשָׁםthey poured outוַיַּסִּיכוּtheir libations.אֶת נִסְכֵּיהֶם
And I saidוָאֹמַרto them,אֲלֵהֶםWhatמָהis the high placeהַבָּמָהto whichאֲשֶׁר שָׁםyouאַתֶּםgo?הַבָּאִיםAnd its nameוַ שְׁמָהּis calledיִּקָּרֵא“Bamah”בָּמָהto thisעַד הַזֶּהday.’הַיּוֹם
Thereforeלָכֵןsayאֱמֹרto the houseאֶל בֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל‘ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִהIn the wayהַבְּדֶרֶךְof your fathersאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםare youאַתֶּםdefiling yourselves?נִטְמְאִיםAnd afterוְאַחֲרֵיtheir detestable thingsשִׁקּוּצֵיהֶםare youאַתֶּםprostituting yourselves?זֹנִים
And in presentingוּבִשְׂאֵתyour gifts,מַתְּנֹתֵיכֶםin makingבְּהַעֲבִירyour sonsבְּנֵיכֶםpass through the fire,בָּאֵשׁyouאַתֶּםdefile yourselvesנִטְמְאִיםwith allלְכָלyour idolsגִּלּוּלֵיכֶםto this day.עַד הַיּוֹםAnd shall Iוַאֲנִיlet myself be consultedאִדָּרֵשׁby you,לָכֶםhouseבֵּיתof Israel?יִשְׂרָאֵלAs I live,חַי אָנִיdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהI will surely notאִםlet myself be consultedאִדָּרֵשׁby you.לָכֶם
And what comes upוְהָעֹלָהinto your spiritעַל רוּחֲכֶםwill neverהָיוֹ לֹאhappen,תִהְיֶהthatאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםare saying,אֹמְרִים“We will beנִהְיֶהlike the nations,כַגּוֹיִםlike the familiesכְּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתof the lands,הָאֲרָצוֹתservingלְשָׁרֵתwoodעֵץand stone.”וָאָבֶן
As I live,חַי אָנִיdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהsurelyאִם לֹאwith a strongחֲזָקָהhandבְּיָדand with an outstretchedנְטוּיָהarmוּבִזְרוֹעַand with poured-outשְׁפוּכָהfuryוּבְחֵמָהI will be kingאֶמְלוֹךְover you.עֲלֵיכֶם
And I will bringוְהוֹצֵאתִיyouאֶתְכֶםout fromמִןthe peoplesהָעַמִּיםand gatherוְקִבַּצְתִּיyouאֶתְכֶםfromמִןthe landsהָאֲרָצוֹתin whichאֲשֶׁר בָּםyou were scattered,נְפוֹצֹתֶםwith a strongחֲזָקָהhandבְּיָדand with an outstretchedנְטוּיָהarmוּבִזְרוֹעַand with poured-outשְׁפוּכָהfury.וּבְחֵמָה
And I will bringוְהֵבֵאתִיyouאֶתְכֶםinto the wildernessאֶל מִדְבַּרof the peoples,הָעַמִּיםand thereשָׁםI will enter into judgmentוְנִשְׁפַּטְתִּיwith youאִתְּכֶםfaceפָּנִיםto face.אֶל פָּנִים
AsכַּאֲשֶׁרI entered into judgmentנִשְׁפַּטְתִּיwith your fathersאֶת אֲבוֹתֵיכֶםin the wildernessבְּמִדְבַּרof the landאֶרֶץof Egypt,מִצְרָיִםsoכֵּןI will enter into judgmentאִשָּׁפֵטwith you,אִתְּכֶםdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.יְהוִה
And I will makeוְyouאֶתְכֶםpassהַעֲבַרְתִּיunderתַּחַתthe rod,הַשָּׁבֶטand I will bringוְהֵבֵאתִיyouאֶתְכֶםinto the bondבְּמָסֹרֶתof the covenant.הַבְּרִית
And I will purgeוּבָרוֹתִיfrom among youמִכֶּםthe rebelsהַמֹּרְדִיםand those who transgressוְהַפּוֹשְׁעִיםagainst me;בִּיfrom the landמֵאֶרֶץwhere they reside as aliensמְגוּרֵיהֶםI will bringאוֹצִיאthemאוֹתָםout,אוֹצִיאbut into the soilוְאֶל אַדְמַתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלthey will notלֹאenter;יָבוֹאand you will knowוִידַעְתֶּםthatכִּיI amאֲנִיYHWH.יְהוָה
And you,וְאַתֶּםhouseבֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלthusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהֹוִהGo,לְכוּserve,עֲבֹדוּeachאִישׁhis idols;גִּלּוּלָיוbut afterwardוְאַחַרyou will surelyאִם אֵינְכֶםlistenשֹׁמְעִיםto me,אֵלָיand my holyקָדְשִׁיnameוְאֶת שֵׁםyou will noלֹאlongerעוֹדprofaneתְחַלְּלוּwith your giftsבְּמַתְּנוֹתֵיכֶםand with your idols.וּבְגִלּוּלֵיכֶם
Forכִּיon my holyקָדְשִׁיmountain,בְהַרon the mountainבְּהַרheightמְרוֹםof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH,יְהוִהthereשָׁםallכָּלthe houseבֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלall of it,כֻּלֹּהwill serve meיַעַבְדֻנִיin the land;בָּאָרֶץthereשָׁםI will accept them,אֶרְצֵםand thereוְשָׁםI will requireאֶדְרוֹשׁyour contributionsאֶת תְּרוּמֹתֵיכֶםand the firstוְאֶת רֵאשִׁיתof your presentsמַשְׂאוֹתֵיכֶםwith allבְּכָלyour holy things.קָדְשֵׁיכֶם
As a pleasingבְּ נִיחֹחַaromaרֵיחַI will acceptאֶרְצֶהyou,אֶתְכֶםwhen I bringבְּהוֹצִיאִיyouאֶתְכֶםout fromמִןthe peoplesהָעַמִּיםand gatherוְקִבַּצְתִּיyouאֶתְכֶםfromמִןthe landsהָאֲרָצוֹתin whichאֲשֶׁר בָּםyou have been scattered;נְפֹצֹתֶםand I will be sanctifiedוְנִקְדַּשְׁתִּיin youבָכֶםbefore the eyesלְעֵינֵיof the nations.הַגּוֹיִם
And you will knowוִידַעְתֶּםthatכִּיI amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהwhen I bringבַּהֲבִיאִיyouאֶתְכֶםinto the soilאֶל אַדְמַתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלinto the landאֶל הָאָרֶץthatאֲשֶׁרI raisedנָשָׂאתִיmy handאֶת יָדִיto giveלָתֵתitאוֹתָהּto your fathers.לַאֲבוֹתֵיכֶם
And thereוּ שָׁםyou will rememberזְכַרְתֶּםyour waysאֶת דַּרְכֵיכֶםand allוְאֵת כָּלyour deedsעֲלִילוֹתֵיכֶםwith whichאֲשֶׁר בָּםyou defiled yourselves,נִטְמֵאתֶםand you will feel disgustוּנְקֹטֹתֶםat yourselvesבִּפְנֵיכֶםfor allבְּכָלyour evilsרָעוֹתֵיכֶםthatאֲשֶׁרyou have done.עֲשִׂיתֶם
And you will knowוִידַעְתֶּםthatכִּיI amאֲנִיYHWHיְהוָהwhen I dealבַּעֲשׂוֹתִיwith youאִתְּכֶםfor the sake ofלְמַעַןmy name,שְׁמִיnotלֹאaccording toכְyour evilכֶם הָרָעִיםwaysדַרְכֵיnor according toוְכַyour corruptהַנִּשְׁחָתוֹתdeeds,עֲלִילוֹתֵיכֶםhouseבֵּיתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלdeclaresנְאֻםAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH.’”יְהוִה
And the wordוַ דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcameיְהִיto me,אֵלַיsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Sonבֶּןof man,אָדָםsetשִׂיםyour faceפָּנֶיךָtowardדֶּרֶךְthe south,תֵּימָנָהand let your word dripוְהַטֵּףtowardאֶלthe southland,דָּרוֹםand prophesyוְהִנָּבֵאagainstאֶלthe forestיַעַרof the fieldהַשָּׂדֶהof the Negev.נֶגֶב
And sayוְאָמַרְתָּto the forestלְיַעַרof the Negev,הַנֶּגֶב‘Hearשְׁמַעthe wordדְּבַרof YHWH:יְהוָהThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH:יְהוִהLook, I amהִנְנִיkindlingמַצִּיתin youבְּךָa fire,אֵשׁand it will consumeוְאָכְלָהin youבְךָeveryכָלgreenלַחtreeעֵץand everyוְכָלdryיָבֵשׁtree;עֵץthe flameלַהֶבֶתof fireשַׁלְהֶבֶתwill notלֹאbe quenched,תִכְבֶּהand allכָּלfacesפָּנִיםwill be scorchedוְנִצְרְבוּby it,בָהּfrom the Negevמִנֶּגֶבto the north.צָפוֹנָה
And allוְ כָּלfleshבָּשָׂרwill seeרָאוּthatכִּיI,אֲנִיYHWH,יְהוָהhave kindled it;בִּעַרְתִּיהָit will notלֹאbe quenched.’”תִּכְבֶּה
And I said,וָאֹמַר“Ah,אֲהָהּAdonaiאֲדֹנָיYHWH!יְהוִהTheyהֵמָּהare sayingאֹמְרִיםof me,לִי‘Isהֲheהוּאnotלֹאa makerמְמַשֵּׁלof proverbs?’”מְשָׁלִים
