And the wordוַיְהִי דְבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcame to Jeremiahאֶל יִרְמְיָהוּa second time,שֵׁנִיתwhile heוְהוּאwas stillעוֹדֶנּוּshut upעָצוּרin the courtבַּחֲצַרof the guard,הַמַּטָּרָהsaying,לֵאמֹר
“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהwho made it,עֹשָׂהּYHWH,יְהוָהwho formsיוֹצֵרitאוֹתָהּto establish it,לַהֲכִינָהּYHWH isיְהוָהhis name:שְׁמוֹ
Callקְרָאto me,אֵלַיand I will answer you,וְאֶעֱנֶךָּand I will declareוְאַגִּידָהto youלְּךָgreat thingsגְּדֹלוֹתand inaccessible thingsוּבְצֻרוֹתthat you have notלֹאknown.יְדַעְתָּם
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWH,יְהוָהthe Elohimאֱלֹהֵיof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלconcerning the housesעַל בָּתֵּיof this cityהָעִיר הַזֹּאתand concerning the housesוְעַל בָּתֵּיof the kingsמַלְכֵיof Judahיְהוּדָהthat are torn downהַנְּתֻצִיםforאֶלthe siege rampsהַסֹּלְלוֹתand for the sword:וְאֶל הֶחָרֶב
They are comingבָּאִיםto fightלְהִלָּחֵםwith the Chaldeans,אֶת הַכַּשְׂדִּיםand to fill themוּלְמַלְאָםwith the corpsesאֶת פִּגְרֵיof the human beingsהָאָדָםwhomאֲשֶׁרI have struckהִכֵּיתִיin my angerבְאַפִּיand in my fury,וּבַחֲמָתִיandוַbecauseאֲשֶׁרI have hiddenהִסְתַּרְתִּיmy faceפָנַיfrom this cityמֵהָעִיר הַזֹּאתbecause of allעַל כָּלtheir evil.רָעָתָם
Look, I amהִנְנִיbringing upמַעֲלֶהfor itלָּהּrecoveryאֲרֻכָהand healing,וּמַרְפֵּאand I will heal them,וּרְפָאתִיםand I will revealוְגִלֵּיתִיto themלָהֶםan abundanceעֲתֶרֶתof peaceשָׁלוֹםand faithfulness.וֶאֱמֶת
And I will bring backוַהֲשִׁבֹתִיthe captivityאֶת שְׁבוּתof Judahיְהוּדָהand the captivityוְאֵת שְׁבוּתof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵלand I will build themוּבְנִתִיםas at the first.כְּבָרִאשֹׁנָה
And I will cleanse themוְטִהַרְתִּיםfrom allמִכָּלtheir iniquityעֲוֺנָםby whichאֲשֶׁרthey have sinnedחָטְאוּagainst me,לִיand I will forgiveוְסָלַחְתִּיallלְכָלtheir iniquitiesעֲוֺנוֹתֵיהֶםby whichאֲשֶׁרthey have sinnedחָטְאוּagainst me,לִיand by whichוַאֲשֶׁרthey have transgressedפָּשְׁעוּagainst me.בִי
And it will beוְהָיְתָהto meלִּיa nameלְשֵׁםof joy,שָׂשׂוֹןa praiseלִתְהִלָּהand a beautyוּלְתִפְאֶרֶתbefore allלְכֹלthe nationsגּוֹיֵיof the earth,הָאָרֶץwhoאֲשֶׁרwill hearיִשְׁמְעוּof allאֶת כָּלthe goodהַטּוֹבָהthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam doing for them;עֹשֶׂה אֹתָםand they will fearוּפָחֲדוּand trembleוְרָגְזוּbecause of allעַל כָּלthe goodהַטּוֹבָהand because of allוְעַל כָּלthe peaceהַשָּׁלוֹםthatאֲשֶׁרIאָנֹכִיam bringing about for it.עֹשֶׂה לָּהּ
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהOnce moreעוֹדthere will be heardיִשָּׁמַעin this place,בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהof whichאֲשֶׁרyouאַתֶּםare saying,אֹמְרִים‘Itהוּאis laid waste,חָרֵבwithoutמֵאֵיןhuman beingאָדָםand withoutוּמֵאֵיןlivestock,’בְּהֵמָהin the citiesבְּעָרֵיof Judahיְהוּדָהand in the streetsוּבְחֻצוֹתof Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַםthat are desolate,הַנְשַׁמּוֹתwithoutמֵאֵיןhuman beingאָדָםand withoutוּמֵאֵיןinhabitantיוֹשֵׁבand withoutוּמֵאֵיןlivestock,בְּהֵמָה
the voiceקוֹלof joyשָׂשׂוֹןand the voiceוְקוֹלof gladness,שִׂמְחָהthe voiceקוֹלof the bridegroomחָתָןand the voiceוְקוֹלof the bride,כַּלָּהthe voiceקוֹלof those who say,אֹמְרִים‘Give thanksהוֹדוּto YHWHאֶת יְהוָהTsevaot,צְבָאוֹתforכִּיYHWHיְהוָהis good,טוֹבforכִּיhis loyal loveחַסְדּוֹis forever,’לְעוֹלָםas they bringמְבִאִיםthanksgivingתּוֹדָהto the houseבֵּיתof YHWH;יְהוָהforכִּיI will bring backאָשִׁיבthe captivityאֶת שְׁבוּתof the landהָאָרֶץas at the first,כְּבָרִאשֹׁנָהsaysאָמַרYHWH.יְהוָה
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWHיְהוָהTsevaot:צְבָאוֹתOnce moreעוֹדthere will beיִהְיֶהin this placeבַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּהthat is laid waste,הֶחָרֵבwithoutמֵאֵיןhuman beingאָדָםor evenוְעַדlivestock,בְּהֵמָהand in allוּבְכָלits cities,עָרָיוa dwellingנְוֵהof shepherdsרֹעִיםwho makeמַרְבִּצִיםthe flockצֹאןlie down.מַרְבִּצִים
In the citiesבְּעָרֵיof the hill country,הָהָרin the citiesבְּעָרֵיof the Shephelah,הַשְּׁפֵלָהand in the citiesוּבְעָרֵיof the Negev,הַנֶּגֶבand in the landוּבְאֶרֶץof Benjamin,בִּנְיָמִןand in the surroundingsוּבִסְבִיבֵיof Jerusalem,יְרוּשָׁלִַםand in the citiesוּבְעָרֵיof Judah,יְהוּדָהthe flockהַצֹּאןwill againעֹדpassתַּעֲבֹרְנָהunder the handsעַל יְדֵיof the one who counts them,מוֹנֶהsaysאָמַרYHWH.יְהוָה
Look,הִנֵּהdaysיָמִיםare coming,בָּאִיםdeclaresנְאֻםYHWH,יְהוָהwhen I will fulfillוַהֲקִמֹתִיthe goodאֶת הַ הַטּוֹבwordדָּבָרthatאֲשֶׁרI have spokenדִּבַּרְתִּיto the houseאֶל בֵּיתof Israelיִשְׂרָאֵלand concerning the houseוְעַל בֵּיתof Judah.יְהוּדָה
In those daysבַּיָּמִים הָהֵםand at that timeוּבָעֵת הַהִיאI will cause to sproutאַצְמִיחַfor Davidלְדָוִדa sproutצֶמַחof righteousness,צְדָקָהand he will doוְעָשָׂהjusticeמִשְׁפָּטand righteousnessוּצְדָקָהin the land.בָּאָרֶץ
In those daysבַּיָּמִים הָהֵםJudahיְהוּדָהwill be saved,תִּוָּשַׁעand Jerusalemוִירוּשָׁלִַםwill dwellתִּשְׁכּוֹןsecurely;לָבֶטַחand this isוְזֶהthe name by whichאֲשֶׁרthey will callיִקְרָאher:לָהּ‘YHWH,יְהוָהour righteousness.’צִדְקֵנוּ
ForכִּיthusכֹהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהDavidלְדָוִדwill never lackלֹא יִכָּרֵתa manאִישׁsittingיֹשֵׁבon the throneעַל כִּסֵּאof the houseבֵיתof Israel;יִשְׂרָאֵל
and the priests,וְלַכֹּהֲנִיםthe Levites,הַלְוִיִּםwill never lackלֹא יִכָּרֵתa manאִישׁbefore meמִלְּפָנָיofferingמַעֲלֶהburnt offering,עוֹלָהand offering up in smokeוּמַקְטִירgrain offering,מִנְחָהand makingוְעֹשֶׂהsacrificeזֶּבַחall the days.”כָּל הַיָּמִים
And the wordוַיְהִי דְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcame to Jeremiah,אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּsaying,לֵאמוֹר
“ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהIfאִםyou can breakתָּפֵרוּmy covenantאֶת בְּרִיתִיwith the dayהַיּוֹםand my covenantוְאֶת בְּרִיתִיwith the night,הַלָּיְלָהso that there will notוּלְבִלְתִּיbeהֱיוֹתdayיוֹמָםand nightוָלַיְלָהin their time,בְּעִתָּם
then alsoגַּםmy covenantבְּרִיתִיmay be brokenתֻפַרwith Davidאֶת דָּוִדmy servant,עַבְדִּיso that he will notמִhaveהְיוֹת לוֹa sonבֵןreigningמֹלֵךְon his throne,עַל כִּסְאוֹand with the Levites,וְאֶת הַלְוִיִּםthe priests,הַכֹּהֲנִיםmy ministers.מְשָׁרְתָי
Asאֲשֶׁרthe armyצְבָאof the heavensהַשָּׁמַיִםcannotלֹאbe counted,יִסָּפֵרand the sandחוֹלof the seaהַיָּםcannotוְלֹאbe measured,יִמַּדsoכֵּןI will multiplyאַרְבֶּהthe offspringאֶת זֶרַעof Davidדָּוִדmy servant,עַבְדִּיand the Levitesוְאֶת הַלְוִיִּםwho ministerמְשָׁרְתֵיto me.”אֹתִי
And the wordוַיְהִי דְּבַרof YHWHיְהוָהcame to Jeremiah,אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּsaying,לֵאמֹר
“Have you notהֲלוֹאseenרָאִיתָwhatמָהthis peopleהָעָם הַזֶּהhave spoken,דִּבְּרוּsaying,לֵאמֹר‘The twoשְׁתֵּיfamiliesהַמִּשְׁפָּחוֹתthatאֲשֶׁרYHWHיְהוָהchose,בָּחַרhe has rejected them’?בָּהֶם וַיִּמְאָסֵםAnd my peopleוְאֶת עַמִּיthey despise,יִנְאָצוּןso that it is noמִlongerעוֹדa nationהְיוֹת גּוֹיin their sight.לִפְנֵיהֶם
ThusכֹּהsaysאָמַרYHWH:יְהוָהIfאִםmy covenantבְרִיתִיwith dayיוֹמָםand night,וָלָיְלָהthe statutesחֻקּוֹתof heavensשָׁמַיִםand earth,וָאָרֶץI have notלֹא לֹאset,שָׂמְתִּי
then alsoגַּםI will rejectאֶמְאַסthe offspringזֶרַעof Jacobיַעֲקוֹבand of Davidוְדָוִדmy servant,עַבְדִּיso as not to takeמִקַּחַתfrom his offspringמִזַּרְעוֹrulersמֹשְׁלִיםover the offspringאֶל זֶרַעof Abraham,אַבְרָהָםIsaac,יִשְׂחָקand Jacob;וְיַעֲקֹבforכִּיI will bring backאָשִׁיבtheir captivity,אֶת שְׁבוּתָםand I will have compassion on them.”וְרִחַמְתִּים
