And as for me,וַאֲנִיin the firstבִּ אַחַתyearשְׁנַתof Dariusלְדָרְיָוֶשׁthe Mede,הַמָּדִיI stood upעָמְדִיto be a supportלְמַחֲזִיקand a strongholdוּלְמָעוֹזfor him.לוֹ
And nowוְעַתָּהI will declareאַגִּידto youלָךְtruth.אֱמֶתLook,הִנֵּהthreeשְׁלֹשָׁהmoreעוֹדkingsמְלָכִיםwill stand upעֹמְדִיםin Persia,לְפָרַסand the fourthוְהָרְבִיעִיwill gainיַעֲשִׁירgreatגָּדוֹלrichesעֹשֶׁרmore than all;מִכֹּלand when he is strongוּכְחֶזְקָתוֹthrough his riches,בְעָשְׁרוֹhe will stir upיָעִירeveryoneהַכֹּלagainst the kingdomאֵת מַלְכוּתof Javan.יָוָן
And a mightyגִּבּוֹרkingמֶלֶךְwill stand upוְעָמַדand ruleוּמָשַׁלwith greatרַבdominionמִמְשָׁלand doוְעָשָׂהas he pleases.כִּרְצוֹנוֹ
And when he has stood up,וּכְעָמְדוֹhis kingdomמַלְכוּתוֹwill be brokenתִּשָּׁבֵרand dividedוְתֵחָץtoward the fourלְאַרְבַּעwindsרוּחוֹתof the heavens,הַשָּׁמָיִםbut notוְלֹאto his posterity,לְאַחֲרִיתוֹnorוְלֹאaccording to his dominionכְמָשְׁלוֹwith whichאֲשֶׁרhe ruled;מָשָׁלforכִּיhis kingdomמַלְכוּתוֹwill be uprootedתִנָּתֵשׁand go to othersוְלַאֲחֵרִיםbesides these.מִלְּבַד אֵלֶּה
And the kingוְ מֶלֶךְof the southהַנֶּגֶבwill be strong,יֶחֱזַקbut one of his princesוּמִן שָׂרָיוwill be strongerוְיֶחֱזַקthan heעָלָיוand rule;וּמָשָׁלhis dominionמֶמְשַׁלְתּוֹwill be a greatרַבdominion.מִמְשָׁל
And at the endוּלְקֵץof some yearsשָׁנִיםthey will make an alliance,יִתְחַבָּרוּand the daughterוּבַתof the kingמֶלֶךְof the southהַנֶּגֶבwill comeתָּבוֹאto the kingאֶל מֶלֶךְof the northהַצָּפוֹןto makeלַעֲשׂוֹתan agreement;מֵישָׁרִיםbut she will notוְלֹאretainתַעְצֹרthe strengthכּוֹחַof the arm,הַזְּרוֹעַand he will notוְלֹאstand,יַעֲמֹדnor his arm;וּזְרֹעוֹand sheהִיאwill be given up,וְתִנָּתֵןand those who brought her,וּמְבִיאֶיהָand he who fathered her,וְהַיֹּלְדָהּand he who supported herוּמַחֲזִקָהּin those times.בָּעִתִּים
But one from a shootוְ מִנֵּצֶרof her rootsשָׁרָשֶׁיהָwill stand upעָמַדin his place,כַּנּוֹand he will comeוְיָבֹאagainst the armyאֶל הַחַיִלand enterוְיָבֹאthe strongholdבְּמָעוֹזof the kingמֶלֶךְof the north,הַצָּפוֹןand actוְעָשָׂהagainst themבָהֶםand prevail.וְהֶחֱזִיק
And alsoוְגַםtheir gods,אֱלֹהֵיהֶםwith their molten images,עִם נְסִכֵיהֶםwith their preciousחֶמְדָּתָםvesselsעִם כְּלֵיof silverכֶּסֶףand gold,וְזָהָבhe will carryיָבִאinto captivityבַּשְּׁבִיto Egypt;מִצְרָיִםand heוְהוּאwill refrainיַעֲמֹדfor some yearsשָׁנִיםfrom the kingמִמֶּלֶךְof the north.הַצָּפוֹן
And heוּwill comeבָאinto the kingdomבְּמַלְכוּתof the kingמֶלֶךְof the southהַנֶּגֶבand returnוְשָׁבto his own land.אֶל אַדְמָתוֹ
And his sonsוּבָנָיוwill wage warיִתְגָּרוּand gatherוְאָסְפוּa multitudeהֲמוֹןof greatרַבִּיםforces,חֲיָלִיםand one will comeוּבָאsurelyבוֹאand overflowוְשָׁטַףand pass through,וְעָבָרand returnוְיָשֹׁבand wage warוְיִתְגָּרֶהup to his stronghold.עַד מָעֻזּוֹ
And the kingוְ מֶלֶךְof the southהַנֶּגֶבwill be enragedיִתְמַרְמַרand go outוְיָצָאand fightוְנִלְחַםwith him,עִמּוֹwith the kingעִם מֶלֶךְof the north;הַצָּפוֹןand heוְwill raiseהֶעֱמִידa greatרָבmultitude,הָמוֹןbut the multitudeוְ הֶהָמוֹןwill be givenנִתַּןinto his hand.בְּיָדוֹ
And the multitudeוְ הֶהָמוֹןwill be carried away,נִשָּׂאand his heartוְ לְבָבוֹwill be lifted up,רָםand he will bring downוְהִפִּילtens of thousands,רִבֹּאוֹתbut he will notוְלֹאprevail.יָעוֹז
And the kingוְ מֶלֶךְof the northהַצָּפוֹןwill returnשָׁבand raiseוְהֶעֱמִידa multitudeהָמוֹןgreaterרַבthan the first;מִן הָרִאשׁוֹןand at the endוּלְקֵץof the times,הָעִתִּיםafter years,שָׁנִיםhe will comeיָבוֹאsurelyבוֹאwith a greatבְּ גָּדוֹלarmyחַיִלand with muchוּבִ רָבequipment.רְכוּשׁ
And in thoseוּבָ הָהֵםtimesעִתִּיםmanyרַבִּיםwill stand upיַעַמְדוּagainst the kingעַל מֶלֶךְof the south;הַנֶּגֶבand the sonsוּבְנֵיof the violentפָּרִיצֵיof your peopleעַמְּךָwill lift themselves upיִנַּשְּׂאוּto fulfillלְהַעֲמִידthe vision,חָזוֹןbut they will stumble.וְנִכְשָׁלוּ
And the kingוְ מֶלֶךְof the northהַצָּפוֹןwill comeיָבֹאand pour outוְיִשְׁפֹּךְa siege rampסוֹלֲלָהand captureוְלָכַדa fortifiedמִבְצָרוֹתcity;עִירand the armsוּזְרֹעוֹתof the southהַנֶּגֶבwill notלֹאstand,יַעֲמֹדוּnor its chosenוְ מִבְחָרָיוpeople,עַםand there will be noוְאֵיןstrengthכֹּחַto stand.לַעֲמֹד
And the one who comesוְ הַבָּאagainst himאֵלָיוwill doיַעַשׂas he pleases,כִּרְצוֹנוֹand there will be no oneוְאֵיןstandingעוֹמֵדbefore him;לְפָנָיוand he will standוְיַעֲמֹדin the beautifulהַצְּבִיland,בְּאֶרֶץand destructionוְכָלָהwill be in his hand.בְיָדוֹ
And he will setוְיָשֵׂםhis faceפָּנָיוto comeלָבוֹאwith the powerבְּתֹקֶףof allכָּלhis kingdom,מַלְכוּתוֹand bring agreementsוִישָׁרִיםwith him,עִמּוֹand he will act;וְעָשָׂהand the daughterוּבַתof womenהַנָּשִׁיםhe will giveיִתֶּןto himלוֹto destroy it;לְהַשְׁחִיתָהּbut she will notוְלֹאstand,תַעֲמֹדnorוְלֹאbeתִהְיֶהfor him.לוֹ
And he will turn his faceוְיָשֵׂם פָּנָיוto the coastlandsלְאִיִּיםand captureוְלָכַדmany;רַבִּיםbutוְa commanderקָצִיןwill put an endהִשְׁבִּיתto his reproachחֶרְפָּתוֹfor him;לוֹmoreoverבִּלְתִּיhis reproachחֶרְפָּתוֹhe will turn backיָשִׁיבon him.לוֹ
And he will turnוְיָשֵׁבhis faceפָּנָיוto the strongholdsלְמָעוּזֵּיof his own land,אַרְצוֹand he will stumbleוְנִכְשַׁלand fallוְנָפַלand notוְלֹאbe found.יִמָּצֵא
And there will stand upוְעָמַדin his placeעַל כַּנּוֹone who sendsמַעֲבִירan exactorנוֹגֵשׂthrough the splendorהֶדֶרof the kingdom;מַלְכוּתbut in a fewוּבְ אֲחָדִיםdaysיָמִיםhe will be broken,יִשָּׁבֵרand notוְלֹאin angerבְאַפַּיִםnorוְלֹאin battle.בְמִלְחָמָה
And there will stand upוְעָמַדin his placeעַל כַּנּוֹa despised one,נִבְזֶהon whom they have notוְלֹא עָלָיוconferredנָתְנוּthe splendorהוֹדof the kingdom;מַלְכוּתbut he will comeוּבָאin a time of easeבְשַׁלְוָהand seizeוְהֶחֱזִיקthe kingdomמַלְכוּתby intrigues.בַּחֲלַקְלַקּוֹת
And the armsוּזְרֹעוֹתof the floodהַשֶּׁטֶףwill be flooded awayיִשָּׁטְפוּfrom before himמִלְּפָנָיוand be broken,וְיִשָּׁבֵרוּand alsoוְגַםthe leaderנְגִידof the covenant.בְּרִית
And from the time an alliance is madeוּמִן הִתְחַבְּרוּתwith himאֵלָיוhe will actיַעֲשֶׂהdeceitfully,מִרְמָהand he will go upוְעָלָהand become strongוְעָצַםwith a smallבִּמְעַטnation.גּוֹי
In a time of ease,בְּשַׁלְוָהand into the richest partsוּבְמִשְׁמַנֵּיof the province,מְדִינָהhe will come,יָבוֹאand he will doוְעָשָׂהwhatאֲשֶׁרhis fathersאֲבֹתָיוdid notלֹאdo,עָשׂוּnor the fathersוַאֲבוֹתof his fathers:אֲבֹתָיוplunderבִּזָּהand spoilוְשָׁלָלand goodsוּרְכוּשׁhe will scatterיִבְזוֹרamong them,לָהֶםand against fortified placesוְעַל מִבְצָרִיםhe will deviseיְחַשֵּׁבhis plans,מַחְשְׁבֹתָיוbutוְonly until a time.עַד עֵת
And he will stir upוְיָעֵרhis powerכֹּחוֹand his heartוּלְבָבוֹagainst the kingעַל מֶלֶךְof the southהַנֶּגֶבwith a greatבְּ גָּדוֹלarmy;חַיִלand the kingוּמֶלֶךְof the southהַנֶּגֶבwill wage warיִתְגָּרֶהin battleלַמִּלְחָמָהwith a greatבְּ גָּדוֹלarmy,חַיִלand exceedinglyעַד מְאֹדmighty,וְעָצוּםbut he will notוְלֹאstand,יַעֲמֹדforכִּיthey will deviseיַחְשְׁבוּplansמַחֲשָׁבוֹתagainst him.עָלָיו
And those who eatוְאֹכְלֵיhis delicaciesפַת בָּגוֹwill break him,יִשְׁבְּרוּהוּand his armyוְחֵילוֹwill overflow,יִשְׁטוֹףand manyרַבִּיםwill fallוְנָפְלוּslain.חֲלָלִים
And as for the twoוּשְׁנֵיהֶםkings,הַמְּלָכִיםtheir heartsלְבָבָםwill be set on doing evil,לְמֵרָעand at oneוְעַל אֶחָדtableשֻׁלְחָןthey will speakיְדַבֵּרוּlies;כָּזָבbut it will notוְלֹאsucceed,תִצְלָחforכִּיthe endקֵץis yetעוֹדfor the appointed time.לַמּוֹעֵד
And he will returnוְיָשֹׁבto his landאַרְצוֹwith greatבִּ גָּדוֹלgoods,רְכוּשׁand his heartוּלְבָבוֹwill be against the holyעַל קֹדֶשׁcovenant;בְּרִיתand he will actוְעָשָׂהand returnוְשָׁבto his land.לְאַרְצוֹ
At the appointed timeלַמּוֹעֵדhe will returnיָשׁוּבand comeוּבָאinto the south,בַנֶּגֶבbut it will notוְלֹאbeתִהְיֶהlike the first timeכָרִאשֹׁנָהnorוְlike the last.כָאַחֲרֹנָה
And shipsוּ צִיִּיםof Kittimכִּתִּיםwill comeבָאוּagainst him,בוֹand he will lose heartוְנִכְאָהand returnוְשָׁבand be indignantוְזָעַםagainst the holyעַל קוֹדֶשׁcovenantבְּרִיתand act;וְעָשָׂהand he will returnוְשָׁבand pay heedוְיָבֵןto those who forsakeעַל עֹזְבֵיthe holyקֹדֶשׁcovenant.בְּרִית
And forcesוּזְרֹעִיםfrom himמִמֶּנּוּwill stand upיַעֲמֹדוּand profaneוְחִלְּלוּthe sanctuary,הַמִּקְדָּשׁthe stronghold,הַמָּעוֹזand take awayוְהֵסִירוּthe continual sacrifice,הַתָּמִידand set upוְנָתְנוּthe detestable thingהַשִּׁקּוּץthat makes desolate.מְשׁוֹמֵם
And those who act wickedlyוּמַרְשִׁיעֵיagainst the covenantבְרִיתhe will corruptיַחֲנִיףwith flatteries;בַּחֲלַקּוֹתbut the peopleוְעַםwho knowיֹדְעֵיtheir Elohimאֱלֹהָיוwill stand firmיַחֲזִקוּand act.וְעָשׂוּ
And the insightfulוּמַשְׂכִּילֵיamong the peopleעָםwill give understandingיָבִינוּto the many;לָרַבִּיםbut they will stumbleוְנִכְשְׁלוּby the swordבְּחֶרֶבand by flame,וּבְלֶהָבָהby captivityבִּשְׁבִיand by plunder,וּבְבִזָּהfor some days.יָמִים
And when they stumbleוּבְהִכָּשְׁלָםthey will be helpedיֵעָזְרוּwith a littleמְעָטhelp,עֵזֶרand manyוְ רַבִּיםwill joinנִלְווּthemעֲלֵיהֶםwith intrigues.בַּחֲלַקְלַקּוֹת
And some of the insightfulוּמִן הַמַּשְׂכִּילִיםwill stumble,יִכָּשְׁלוּto refineלִצְרוֹףthemבָּהֶםand to purifyוּלְבָרֵרand to make them white,וְלַלְבֵּןuntil the timeעַד עֵתof the end;קֵץforכִּיit is yetעוֹדfor the appointed time.לַמּוֹעֵד
And the kingוְ הַמֶּלֶךְwill doעָשָׂהas he pleases,כִרְצוֹנוֹand he will exalt himselfוְיִתְרוֹמֵםand magnify himselfוְיִתְגַּדֵּלabove everyעַל כָּלgod,אֵלand against Elוְעַל אֵלof godsאֵלִיםhe will speakיְדַבֵּרastonishing things,נִפְלָאוֹתand he will prosperוְהִצְלִיחַuntilעַדthe indignationזַעַםis completed,כָּלָהforכִּיwhat is decreedנֶחֱרָצָהwill be done.נֶעֱשָׂתָה
And to the godsוְעַל אֱלֹהֵיof his fathersאֲבֹתָיוhe will notלֹאpay heed,יָבִיןnorוְעַלto the one desiredחֶמְדַּתby women,נָשִׁיםnorוְעַלto anyכָּלgodאֱלוֹהַּwill heלֹאpay heed,יָבִיןforכִּיabove allעַל כֹּלhe will magnify himself.יִתְגַּדָּל
But the godוְלֶאֱלֹהַּof strongholdsמָעֻזִּיםhe will honorיְכַבֵּדin his place;עַל כַּנּוֹand a godוְלֶאֱלוֹהַּthatאֲשֶׁרhis fathersאֲבֹתָיוdid notלֹאknowיְדָעֻהוּhe will honorיְכַבֵּדwith goldבְּזָהָבand with silverוּבְכֶסֶףand with preciousיְקָרָהstonesוּבְאֶבֶןand with desirable things.וּבַחֲמֻדוֹת
And he will actוְעָשָׂהagainst the strongestלְ מָעֻזִּיםfortressesמִבְצְרֵיwith a foreignנֵכָרgod;עִם אֱלוֹהַּthose whoאֲשֶׁרacknowledge himיַכִּירhe will greatly increaseיַרְבֶּהin honor,כָבוֹדand he will make them ruleוְהִמְשִׁילָםover many,בָּרַבִּיםand the landוַאֲדָמָהhe will divideיְחַלֵּקfor a price.בִּמְחִיר
And at the timeוּבְעֵתof the endקֵץthe kingמֶלֶךְof the southהַנֶּגֶבwill clashיִתְנַגַּחwith him,עִמּוֹand the kingוְ מֶלֶךְof the northהַצָּפוֹןwill stormיִשְׂתָּעֵרagainst himעָלָיוwith chariotsבְּרֶכֶבand with horsemenוּבְפָרָשִׁיםand with manyוּ רַבּוֹתships;בָאֳנִיּוֹתand he will enterוּבָאinto the landsבַאֲרָצוֹתand overflowוְשָׁטַףand pass through.וְעָבָר
And he will enterוּבָאinto the beautifulהַצְּבִיland,בְּאֶרֶץand many landsוְרַבּוֹתwill stumble;יִכָּשֵׁלוּbut theseוְאֵלֶּהwill escapeיִמָּלְטוּfrom his hand:מִיָּדוֹEdomאֱדוֹםand Moabוּמוֹאָבand the chiefוְרֵאשִׁיתof the sonsבְּנֵיof Ammon.עַמּוֹן
And he will stretch outוְיִשְׁלַחhis handיָדוֹagainst the lands,בַּאֲרָצוֹתand the landוְאֶרֶץof Egyptמִצְרַיִםwill notלֹאhaveתִהְיֶהescape.לִפְלֵיטָה
And he will ruleוּמָשַׁלover the hidden treasuresבְּמִכְמַנֵּיof goldהַזָּהָבand of silver,וְהַכֶּסֶףand over allוּבְכֹלthe precious thingsחֲמֻדוֹתof Egypt;מִצְרָיִםand the Libyansוְלֻבִיםand the Cushitesוְכֻשִׁיםwill be at his steps.בְּמִצְעָדָיו
But reportsוּשְׁמֻעוֹתfrom the eastמִמִּזְרָחand from the northוּמִצָּפוֹןwill terrify him,יְבַהֲלֻהוּand he will go outוְיָצָאwith greatבְּ גְדֹלָהfuryחֵמָאto destroyלְהַשְׁמִידand to devote to destructionוּלְהַחֲרִיםmany.רַבִּים
And he will pitchוְיִטַּעthe tentsאָהֳלֶיof his palaceאַפַּדְנוֹbetween the seasבֵּין יַמִּיםandלְthe beautifulצְבִיholyקֹדֶשׁmountain;הַרyet he will comeוּבָאtoעַדhis end,קִצּוֹand there will be no oneוְאֵיןto helpעוֹזֵרhim.לוֹ
