Word study

To shout for joy, to sing with jubilation: the joyful cry of a person or a people, and also, in the poems, of the whole creation. BDB defines it as a cry that rings out, above all of joy. From the same root is רִנָּה, the song of jubilation.

How we translate it

“Shout for joy” 39 times, with “shouted for joy” and “shouts for joy”, in the Psalms, Job, Isaiah and the song of 1 Chronicles 16 alike; “Acclaim” in Deuteronomy 32:43 and “Sing” or “sing for joy” a few times (Jeremiah 31:7, 12). When it is wisdom’s public call it is “cries aloud”, without joy (Proverbs 1:20; 8:3).
